I renewed my UK Driving license 6 months early...

The 10 years expiry was from the renewal date and not tied or linked to the expiry date of the preceding license.

- There is no such thing as 'an' international Driving License.

- There is an International Driving Permit - which is used in conjunction with a National Driving License.

... stubbornly sticking to the word licence and arguing the meaning is moot.

It would appear you're not yet 60 so the expiry date is not linked to your 70th birthday as wil iam not's has been, but is no longer.

Worst experience when making the thai licence was in the Cha Am office. The pannel of ladies processing upstairs were rude and made all foreigners wait the entire day almost, despite the fact the the foreigners had arrived long before the opening hours. Not surprising that foreigners and tourists don't want to come to Thailand any more with such lack of minimum decency.

Info, the Post Office in the U.K. no longer issue IDP’s only from Paypoint Shops.

You do not need the IDP [*], you need your UK driving License. You do not need to take the full test, but you need to take the online test found here: https://www.dlt-elearning.com/

[*] Some transport offices may not know the rules and thus demand to see the IDP. If your UK driving license is very old, it may not meet the requirements in the Vienna convention from 1968, and then you may need an IDP.

Sorry, forgot to mention, you also have to take a breaking reaction test and a colour test in the office; you do not have to take the full practical test.
