A 75-year-old man was killed instantly when his pickup truck was struck by another vehicle while making a U-turn in Lom Sak district, Phetchabun province, on Monday, 26 January 2026. The collision occurred at 12.10pm at the Ban Hua Na U-turn, a section of highway long regarded as a high-risk accident spot. The impact crushed the driver’s side of the victim’s vehicle, leaving him trapped and dead at the scene.

Police from Lom Sak station, led by Pol Lt Col Boonlert Lekma, were alerted to the fatal crash and responded with a duty doctor from Lom Sak Hospital and rescue workers from the Kok Sai Lom Sak Association. Emergency crews found a Toyota pickup with severe damage to the driver’s door and body structure. The victim, identified as Mr Lamduan, 75, was found deceased at the steering wheel and had to be extricated using hydraulic rescue cutting equipment.

Investigators said the second vehicle involved was a Toyota pickup driven by Mr Sukprasert, 20, who was uninjured. Both vehicles carried Phetchabun registration plates. The scene was secured while officers documented damage, road conditions and traffic flow at the U-turn.

According to the police investigation, Mr Lamduan had been driving from Phetchabun town towards Lom Sak district. Upon reaching the Ban Hua Na U-turn in Moo 4, Bung Kla subdistrict, he attempted to turn back towards Phetchabun. At the same moment, Mr Sukprasert’s pickup was travelling in the opposite direction at speed and was unable to brake in time, resulting in a direct impact on the driver’s side.

Police confirmed that a breath alcohol test conducted on the 20-year-old driver showed a reading of zero per cent. Officers noted that the stretch of road is straight, encouraging high speeds, which increases the danger for vehicles using the U-turn. The location has previously been classified by authorities as a “Black Spot” under highway road safety assessments.

Rescue workers coordinated with police to remove the body, and officers later contacted the victim’s relatives to arrange religious funeral rites. The investigating officer stated that the case would proceed in line with standard legal procedures, including a full review of witness statements and physical evidence.

Naewna reported that authorities also issued a renewed warning to motorists to exercise extreme caution when approaching the Ban Hua Na U-turn. Police emphasised the need for reduced speeds and heightened awareness in the area to prevent further loss of life.
