A 25-million-baht McLaren supercar was destroyed by fire after crashing into a roadside power pole in Nan province, leaving the driver injured and prompting renewed warnings about driving on mountainous roads. The crash occurred on the evening of 30 January 2026 and caused significant damage to both the vehicle and public property.

Police said the crash was reported at 5.55pm on 30 January to Nan 191 radio centre. The incident took place on the Nan–Thung Chang road in Moo 1, Pa Kha subdistrict, Tha Wang Pha district, near the Pa Kha Subdistrict Administrative Organisation. The supercar driver lost control, veered off the road, struck a power pole and burst into flames.

Pol Col Suriya Khunto, superintendent of Tha Wang Pha police station, led officers to the scene alongside rescue workers, firefighters from Pa Kha SAO and Tha Wang Pha municipality and staff from the Phetkasem Nan Foundation. The vehicle was identified as a McLaren 720S and was completely gutted by fire, leaving only twisted metal. Its estimated value was reported to be more than 25 million baht.

Firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control while rescue teams assisted the driver, who was pulled from the wreckage safely. The injured driver was identified as Mr Phatcharaphong, aged 34, from Lopburi province. He received first aid at the scene before being taken to Tha Wang Pha Hospital for further treatment.

Police also confirmed damage to government property, including one roadside sign warning drivers to reduce speed. Initial checks and information from local social media groups indicated the McLaren was part of a convoy of supercars touring Nan province. The group had travelled along Highway 1081 between Pua and Bo Kluea and the crash occurred during the return journey.

Officers documented the scene, took photographs and prepared a site diagram as part of the investigation. Police said they will continue inquiries to determine the cause of the accident and will take legal action where relevant. No further details about possible charges or liability have been released.

Matichon reported that athorities used the incident to reiterate safety advice to motorists, particularly tourists driving in Nan province. They warned that routes such as the Nan–Thung Chang road and Highway 1081 feature sharp curves, steep gradients and narrow sections. Drivers were urged to obey speed limits, exercise extra caution and ensure vehicles are roadworthy, especially when using high-performance or supercars on mountainous terrain.
