This page is a case in point.

I tend to agree. However It can be a useful resource if one quickly wants information on a subject of which one knows little. But I don't think it should ever be quoted as a legitimate resource. In fact when I see wiki quotes on this forum, whether they support my corner or not, I tend to ignore them.

Well, the wife and I are finally gonna' make it down to Government house this weekend. We'll take the overnight train tomorrow night and will be there by Sunday night, after taking care of some business.

I really did enjoy posting on this site about the PAD/TRT,PPP,Thaskin conflict a few weeks ago, but right now, we are busy moving to Canada, so a day in Bangkok to show our support will have to be enough.

There is some cool stuff happening...In Mae Taeng, (about 35km North of Chiang Mai), about two km North of town, on the left, there is a little vegetarian restaurant and store, which is also some sort of community women's Coop, I think. They have turned it into a little PAD headquarters about a month ago, with ASTV, pictures of the rally, etc. etc. Takes a lot of guts to do this in Toxin country. I was impressed.

It's been pretty neat...on our bike Trip through Northern Thailand last week, we got Hand clappers in Mae Hong Son, PAD CD's in Mae Taeng, the booklet somewhere else. Looks like the North is slowly swinging away from Thaksin, one heart at a time :-)

Anyways, we'll be at Chiang Mai Saloon on Loi Kroh at noon tomorrow (Saturday), to meet up with another friend going to the rally on the train with us tomorrow night. The more the merrier ;-)

Cheers

Mon and Kurt

(by the way, the restaurant is closed, we are moving back to Canada)

One heart at a time. Yes, poetic justice.

It seems to happen as ALTERNATE information is finally allowed to be heard up there.

Rather than being beaten into silence as in the past.

If you look at the UDD page and the PAD page linked to it,

the fact checking is glaringly MISSING on the UDD page.

And the most negative things on the PAD page show dramatically

a different style of writing with a comparatively glaring lack of English grammar.

PAD's looks like a relatively even handed appraisal, warts and all.

You can see the hand of a UDD supporter trying to do re-writes, such as the car bomb lies.

Which is why Wiki is so useless as a reference to anything.

The UDD makes one think of Soviet era russian propaganda revision.

If the UDD is so right and correct in their aims and mission,

WHY CHANGE HISTORY?

Why re-write to appear in a better light?

Why the desperate looking attempts to look good, and not dastardly?

If they are so good why not let the FACTS speak for themselves?

Pathetic really.

It basically goes to show NOTHING on EITHER page is worth your time of day.

When asked about the UDD's forces, Major-General Khattiya Sawasdipol, who is close to the government,he said they were being trained to fight and the training ground had been shifted from Sanam Luang to a training camp. He said there were hundreds of UDD fighters whose task is to counter the PAD.

Khattiya said UDD fighters had been approached by the government and the police to help block PAD protesters on Oct 7 and Oct 13.

On Oct 7 they were asked to go to Parliament to clear the way for Somchai to leave the premises after delivering his policy statement.

Pro-Thaksin general says more attacks against PAD to be made

Gen Kattiya Sawadiphol, a specialist of the Army, Thursday denied that he was behind the bomb attack against the People's Alliance for Democracy.

But he said the PAD would face more attacks and PAD guards would be killed everyday if the it did not stop occupying the Government House.

"In the future, the PAD may be attacked with RPG rockets, M79 grenades," Kattiya sad.

This guy is extremely dangerous

Regarding warnings by Army Maj-Gen. Kattiya Sawasdipol that the PAD should let women and children vacate Government House because violence is expected after Thaksin talks to his supporters Saturday night, Chamlong said that the outspoken general's superiors should take action against him because his threats were a violation of army discipline.

Army Chief orders Maj Gen Kattiya probe

Army Chief General Anupong Paochinda has ordered a disciplinary and criminal investigation into statements made to the media by Army specialist Maj General Kattiya Sawadipol concerning the People's Alliance for Democracy and the threat of violence.

Army spokesman Col Sansern Kaewkamnerd said yesterday the remarks had caused public panic and anxiety and Kattiya would be summoned by a disciplinary panel for interrogation. A military criminal panel would be appointed later to look into the matter.

Asked if Kattiya is being investigated for implicating Anupong in his controversial statements, Sansern admitted it was part of the reason.

Kattiya said the military criminal probe came as a surprise to him because he already faced a disciplinary probe. "I want to know what have I done wrong. I have never insulted my superiors. On the opposite, I defend and obey their orders. When they told me to stop Phra Chao Tak military training, I did so immediately,'' he said.

"The Army Chief does not have time to read papers. He probably believes the flattering people who mudsling me. If the probe finds me innocent, I will go and slap the mouths of these people,'' he said.

Kattiya had told members of the media on several occasions that after the royal cremation ceremony of HRH Princess Kalaya Vadhana, enemies of the People's Alliance for Democracy would step up their operations. He warned the PAD to leave Government House, if they do not want violence.

Judge Advocate officials said Kattiya's press statements may be deemed in violation of Article 41 of the Military Criminal Code that stipulates military officials who issue threats, intimidate or similar action are liable to imprisonment of up to three years.

Complaint filed against Major-General Kattiya

Chairman of the Activist Group for Human Rights and Freedom filed a complaint against Army Major-General Kattiya Sawasdiphol for his infringement upon freedom rights and threat attempts to induce fear.

Today, Mr. Weera Somkwamkid, Chairman of the Activist Group for Human Rights and Freedom met with police officials at Nang Lerng police station in order to file a complaint against Army Major-General Kattiya Sawasdiphol for infringement upon freedom rights and threat attempts to induce fear during the violent dispersion of PAD’s protestors on Tuesday, 7th October. This legal proceeding will act in accordance with the Criminal Law of 9 articles.

Furthermore, Mr. Weera also stated that Major-General Kattiya had behaved in an inappropriate manner by training so-called King Taksin the Great’s soldiers. Therefore, Mr. Weera urged the police authority to bring in Major-General Kattiya for interrogation and immediately stop him from conducting his improper actions.

Mr. Weera stated despite the fact that Major-General Kattiya was already interrogated by the committee set up by the Royal Thai Army, he has still continued to inform the press in such intimidating manner.

1 killed, 11 injured in explosion in Government House

One protester was killed and 11 other were injured when a bomb exploded inside the Government House complex in front of the main stage of the People's Alliance for Democracy early Thursday morning.

Guards and protesters said the explosion occurred at 3:25 am, just a day after the so-called ceasefire during the royal cremation period.

PAD guards rushed the 12 injured protesters to four hospitals. One of them later died at the hospital. He was identified as Jenjit Kladsakhon, 48. The bomb shrapnel inflicted a 2-cm-deep wound on his throat.

Four injured were rushed to the Phra Monkut Hospital, 2 to Ramathibodi Hospital, 3 to Central Hospital, 2 to Vajira Hospital and 1 to Chulalongkorn Hospital.

Police were not allowed to check the explosion scene which the PAD guards cordoned off. Following the explosion, PAD guards would not allow anyone to leave the Government House compound unless he or she carried an ID card.

The guards speculated that the bomb might be fired from behind the Civil Service Commission head office or from a building of the office.

Sujitra Chaiphet, 55, a protester from Lampang, said she was woken up by the explosion sound. She then heard a lot of people screaming painfully and saw many people covered with blood on their arms and body, most of them women. Despite the explosion, she said she would continue her protest at the Government House.

Earlier, Major General Khattiaya Sawasdiphol, an expert attached to the Army head office, threatened the PAD with bomb attacks, saying if the protesters did not leave the Government House complex soon, they would be attacked with bombs daily.

The explosion also came after Jatuporn Promphan, a personal spokesman of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, quoted the ousted leader as saying there would be no more peace in Thailand.

It is beginning to look like the outcome of this situation may not be amiable.

Were there any other explosions in BKK last night? I live in a suburban area and I was awoken by a couple of very loud bangs in the distance--the kind that sounded more like grenades/bombs than something like an industrial accident.

My Thai wife who is completely vitriolic against Pojaman and Thaskin and still has scars from the '92 protest she took part in, is again begging me to allow her to fly to Thailand and take part in this protest. For 2 or 3 months she spends her days and nights in front of the television tuned to ASTV. I have not directly asked her how many thousands of dollars she donated, as it is her money that she makes from her farms, but I know it is a lot.

I watch this forum and opinions flow back and forth, however, it is my belief that until either the Shinawatra Clan is no longer on this earth, or in jail, there will never be any peace in Thailand.

Being an old warrior that is way too long in the tooth to get involved, but if somebody were to get involved, they should take the fight to the Shinawatra Clan, and quit playing defense.

Enough of the little pawns getting killed and maimed.

While it's admirable that your wife is charged up to go defend a righteous cause in person, It's probably best she give support from afar - as it sounds like she's been doing.

I don't concur that PAD or anyone else "should take the fight to the Shinawatra Clan, and quit playing defense" as that might just exacerbate violence and deepen divisions among people who agree much more than they care to admit. Under their surface anger, they all want a prosperous and peaceful Thailand.

Thaksin is only as prominent a player as people allow him to be. If the general public would focus on ignoring him as the ultra-selfish, wealth-worshiping blustering buffoon he is - then he will eventually fade away - as did Pinochet, Marcos, Papa Doc, Milosovic, Amin, and other former megalomaniacs of yesteryear.

As much as anyone else, limp-wristed PM Somchai is exacerbating divisions and troubles for Thailand - by allowing the phone-in treasonous blatherings of his ex-bro-in-law.

Well after having gone through too many wives, and I now has this one that has been able to put up with me for almost 13 years, so I certainly do not want something to happen too her.

I don't have a horse in this race, or I might get involved. It is not my country, or my cause. However it is my belief that a few dedicated "Patriots" that are willing to sacrifice everything for the cause they strongly believe in, can be far more effective in ending a situation like this, when there are only a small handful of people that if they were no longer around to lead, their following will fade away.

One killed, 22 wounded in grenade attack at Government House

BANGKOK, Nov 20 (TNA) - One protester was killed and 22 others wounded at Government House early Wednesday morning after an apparent rifle grenade attack at the anti-government People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) encampment.

Dr. Petchpong Kamchongkitjakarn of the Erawan Centre's Emergency Service identified the victim as Mr. Janekit Kladsakorn, 48. He died en route to hospital and was declared dead on arrival after suffering serious wounds from shrapnel in his neck.

Among the 22 injured, four are seriously wounded, said Dr. Petchpong.

Witnesses said the explosion occured about 3.30 am, when an explosive device fell into the Government House compound which the protesters have occupied since August 26.

The PAD's Initial investigation showed that the projectile was likely to be a military issue M-79 rifle shot into the compound from outside.

After the attack, PAD volunteer guards blocked all entrances to Government House and strictly barred media from entering the compound.

The protest alliance core leaders called an urgent meeting to find measures to prevent future attacks and pressed the authorities to find the assailants.

PAD protesters occupying Government House have been hit by a number of small blasts, injuring many demonstrators and security volunteers.

Thailand: Blast Kills One, Wounds 23

BANGKOK, THAILAND: A grenade attack on anti-government protesters occupying the Thai prime minister's office killed one person and wounded at least 23 early Thursday (20 Nov), an army official and protesters said.

The protesters have occupied the Government House compound since August and refuse to leave until Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat resigns or is overthrown. The protest movement has been the focus of several small bomb and grenade attacks, but Thursday's was the first deadly assault at the compound.

The explosion occurred shortly after 3am while a band performed onstage on the front lawn outside the prime minister's office, said Amorn Amornratamanon, one of the protest leaders. The grenade landed on a giant tent near the stage that was sheltering dozens of people, he said.

"I was listening to the music when I heard a big bang. I ran to the stage and turned back to see several people lying on the ground," said Wimonwan Pranratsmee, a 42-year-old woman who was among the wounded.

Army Gen. Prathomphong Kesornsuk, who was at the scene, said the device was an M-79 grenade that was fired by a grenade launcher from a nearby building.

The political unrest briefly paused for the six-day funeral of Princess Galyani Vadhana, the elder sister of Thailand's revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The blast came just hours after the official mourning period ended at midnight Wednesday (19 Nov).

Don't be so naive "old wanderer". If I am Sondhi, I would plant a bomb on my own site. Then blame the opposition to gain support. This is just one of the dirty games being played here.

I am not saying that this bomb is really planted by Sondhi. I am just reminding you that things might not be so straight forward. If it seems to obvious, something is not right.

INITIAL OCT 7 FINDINGS

PM and Chavalit 'responsible'

Initial findings by a National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) panel have pointed the finger at Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat and former Deputy Prime Minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh over the huge casualties on October 7, an informed source said yesterday.

It seems very suspicious especially when PAD guards were found with a lot of home made bombs and ID cards last week. Also it is very suspicious that they did not let the Police investigate but instead do their own investigation. Are PAD detectives now.. hmm this group amazes me. Just by not letting police investigate shows that they are hiding something. Maybe they are just planting some evidence to protect or whatever to blame someone else. Just proves you can take these jokers seriously apart from the ASTV fan club on TV. Oh well they made the news and thats what they wanted since their support is very low and no one bothers with them much anymore. On other news I wonder if they will return all the Laptops and equipment that has gone missing from government house... hmm I dont think that is long gone now.

Has one of the PAD's own bombs exploded?

Harry 2,,,,please wipe the crap out your eyes, and read this quote from above:

Earlier, Major General Khattiaya Sawasdiphol, an expert attached to the Army head office, threatened the PAD with bomb attacks, saying if the protesters did not leave the Government House complex soon, they would be attacked with bombs daily.

Or because it is so obvious nobody will beleive the obvious so the obvious is what happened....

The truth is who sent the bomb and who it was aimed at and why are usually well known by the people targetted. Whether what people say is the truth who knows and nobody has ever been caught for a Thai politcal bombing. In this case people with a horse in the race will unquestioningly believe what their side says. Hopefully though most peopel will just feel sorrow for the dead and injured and their families.
