Email Reply To Address

I use pocomail which is similar to Outlook. Anyway, it allows you to set a 'from' email address and a 'reply to' email address. When the receiver opens his mail, he sees both addresses. Is there any way to make it so that the receiver only sees the 'from' email address and therefore assumes that they are replying to it, while really they are replying to the 'reply to' address?

This is all for legal purposes. Just looking to spy on a certain girlfriend who really does deserve it.

Yes- called auto forwarding. If the email client has this option you just set the ultimate address and mail will pass through orginal email address and fwd to the end destination.

What if the 'from' address is something you have no control over like [email protected]? Can I get them to think they are replying to that address when really it comes to [email protected]?

I'll look it up in google, but just so I make sure we're on the same page, i can have it sent from say [email protected], but the trick is making the receiver believe they are sending their reply to the same address. It can be done?

It all depends on how knowlageable the reciever is. Changing the "From" field is only superficial, as the info in the originating IP can usually be found in the mail header. Viewing this will almost always give you away.

Not that its really my business, but is a girl who needs to be spied on worth all the effort?

She's not too knowledgable... Not enough to notice the headers and trace the IP...

Here's the thing. I can change the from field and it appears that the email is being sent from whomever I want. (In real life, the address I would use does not exist) When they click reply and then send their response, they'll soon get an email that says the message was undeliverable as the address does not exist. This is no good.

So to remedy this, I can put in a 'reply to' address. So it will say from '[email protected]' and reply to '[email protected]'. When they click reply and then send the message, I will receive it in hotmail. But this isn't great either as they will likely think that it is a bit strange that the from address is different than the reply to address.

So what I'm looking for is some way that it says from '[email protected]' and when they click on reply, they don't notice that its really going to the hotmail address.

Is it possible?

This girl is worth it. That's all I can say for now.

Okay- sounds like you want to create a disposable address or alias address. Alot of premium servies offer you this option as a guard for spam mail. Basically you give out or use the alias address, but the mail is forwarded to the root account.

Example- real address is [email protected]

Alias address- [email protected]

You send out using [email protected], user replies to [email protected], but mail is delivered to [email protected].

Yes, you got it, BUT keep in mind that in your example, I don't own the spam.com domain or have any legitimate account that ends in @spam.com. I send out using [email protected], receiver replys to the same address (which does not exist anywhere else) and I receive at my hotmail account. Can it be done or, in your example again, must I have a genuine @spam.com email address?

Know the names of any of these premium services?

ChiangMai...she must be absolute stunner, or else great in the cot (sorry).

In outlook, if you set the reply address as different to the from address, it will only display the from address when they receive the email, after they click reply, it will then alter the address to the reply address. Most people check who the email is from before they reply to it, and when the email shows in their inbox, only the from address will be visible.

ChiangMaiThai - It appears your only concerned with emails. What about things like AOL/Yahoo/MSN's instant messaging, chatrooms and other online "meeting places".

You may want to look into a type of software generically called "Keyloggers", which you can install on your computer. They capture keystrokes and take periodic "pictures" of the monitor screen, store them in invisible files or send them to a designated email address. They even have "word" alert notification capability, such as "love", "sex", "meeting place", etc., etc.. The software is invisable to the user and the emails even pass through firewalls, without triggering an alert.

A google search for "Keyloggers" will return dozens of options, but here are a couple of the "better" ones to checkout, if your interested:

Perfect Keylogger by BlazingTools

Ghost Keylogger by SureShot

I hope your concerns prove unfounded.

cheers.

Or you sign up as a Michelonian citizen at michelonia.com for $10 and get a free email account named [email protected], the content of which can be forwarded to whatever email adress you wish it to be sent to. You can also make that adddress only appear in your outgoing mail.

The $10 by the way go for a good cause by helping to make Thai kids computer literate and giving them access to the Internet. :o

I understand I could install a keylogger on my own computer- that's my right I suppose. But what about sending keylogger software via email to another person's computer? Not that I would ever consider such a thing, but how difficult is it? What are the possible problems that could arise and just how illegal is it?

ChiangMaiThai - If I remember correctly, one or both of the listed keyloggers have "Remote Installation" capabilities. Check their FAQ's.

As to legality, I'm not a lawyer, so I can't give you a definitive answer. Besides, confidentiality laws vary from country to country. These laws, however, don't stop the "spyware" vendors from trying to secretly put similar utilities on your computer, then sending information "back home".

My personal position in this matter? .......I'd probably go by the old school thinking "nothing's illegal until you get caught." (Mitigating circumstances and that sort of thing.)

Then you could always hire a third party to do the "leg work", if you get my drift. :o

I feel your pain.

Good luck.

(PS - The "keyloggers", properly configured, record both incoming as well as out going material, so if your personal computer is in the loop, you should be able to capture everything, coming or going.)

Perfect Key Logger seems totally useless. Spy Sweeper sees it running immediately and notifies the user.

I'll give the other one a try...

I went ahead and bought this Ghost Keylogger for $50.

Right away my computer sees that it is running and warns me. So again, it seems completely useless.

Also, when set up to send logs via email, even a cheap firewall sees what it is attempting to do...

I suppose I will try it anyway, but I can't figure out the remote installation process yet. Even if I can, if the girl's computer is constantly telling her that keylogger is running and 'would you like to terminate it' I can't see how these people can sell any of this software at all as its pretty much useless.

We'll see.
