Change Of Name After Marriage

My fiancé and I will be getting married shortly. She is of the opinion that when we go to the Amphoe to register the marriage they will require her to change her surname to my surname and she will have no choice in the matter. Is this correct? My understanding is that she is entitled to decide whether or not to change her name.

That old thread is useful but one poster mentioned 'practising writing our name in Thai script' which is unecessary for ID cards as they are in English. Everything else though, fair point. It seems to be entirely upto the Thai spouse. Good question.

Since a few years she can choose to keep her own last name.

Sorry to digress slightly, but I understand a child is not allowed to change surname under any circumstances as long as the father's name is on the birth certificate - not even changing to mother's maiden surname after divorce? Exception being legal adoption. Have I got this right?
