Joker Tiger Motorbikes

Recommended Posts

OK firstly I know its a rubbish bike and it will constantly break down and people hate them - BUT it was FREE!!

(Hopefully negating all of the negative comments I know will cascade from here about being stupid and should have bought a Honda :D )

So based on that assumption I dont want to spend too much cash on refurbishing it but I would like to get it running properly.

The engine is in great working condition and has power - my problem is the electrics and in particular the display unit for milage, lights and speed.

I need to try to get a replacement one or ideally find a mechanic who can 'modify' the bike and swap out the head unit for something like a Honda Wave unit or something.... however I tend to get the hand waving and "Can not, can not" syndrome.

Is it because the main steering colum is a differnt circumference / fitting or because when it comes to taxing the bikes it is not allowed to be modified??

Anyone have ideas of pointers, know a great mechanic with good English so I can explainwhat I want or a place I can get second hand parts in Phuket and I will do the work myself..

Thanks in advance to all positive advice and off course for the laughs the funny posters will give me upon reading :)

what's wrong with tiger motorbikes? i hear a lot of bad reps.

recently i was looking into ugly cbr150 for 70k, but tiger boxer looks much nicer and seems thai police use them too. also it's thai brand right? so there must be lots of spares etc to fix right?

My only experiance is with the Tiger Joker - so far its OK but no one has any idea how to fix them here in Phuket, as they are not Hondas, I have been doing some research into the Tiger Brand and looking at contacting the sales offices in Bangkok.

From what I read the Tiger Boxers are good bikes and powerful here is a link to a Tiger Forum I picked up from a thread in Thai Visa http://www.tigersachsclub.com/index.html and also the Tiger company main webiste http://www.tigermotor.co.th/

My only issue is that the bike is very old and I cant get replacement parts - the engine is sound and has more power than the similar Waves and runs better and the driving position is higher - I like it and would like to re condition the bike and get it like new...

Good luck finding a bike and I hope the sites help out - my comments were for the Joker only as I have had a few issues and the comments I have seen were mostly negative on the Jokers...

I've just ordered some parts for my Tiger - albeit a 250 Boxer - directly from their spares company in Samut Prakarn.

Try this e-mail address " [email protected] ". Their response has been very good.

Also, look in the Downloads section of the Tigersachs Club website Forum - there might be some information there that could be useful to you.

I have a Joker (and still like it!) that I have had for 6 years now. There is a Tiger dealership in Phuket Town. They are friendly and nice and will get parts quickly if they do not have them in stock.

It's been a year since I was there ... Thepkhrassatari rd? On the way in from the heroines monument, in town, near the new Honda dealership (new 2 years ago) Honda is on the left heading into town near a light and the Tiger (and yes Kawasaki I think) dealership is past the light on the right.

My info may be outdated

You are right quite some bad posts over Tiger Bikes around....most of time these posters never ridden or owned a Tiger Bike...

Tiger is a Thai Brand and spares are really easy to get . Since the bikes are rather "low-tech" almost any repair shop can work on it.

Maybe people are just too focused on Brands like Honda,Yamaha, Suzukidue to their amounts spent on advertising. Still the Tiger Boxer is a very good bike and i really enjoyed my rides on it .

Good idea ... done

Thank you all very much for the pointers and comments - I managed to find a place in phuket.

Directions: on the way to the Aquarium I think, head towards Phuket town and go past the new Tesco Lotus, go through the traffic lights next to the Government office and then take the next right at the set of traffic lights.

The number was given to me by the dealership in Bankok - he said it was the only place in Phuket that had spares and they could also do the work on the bike if needed - here is the number... 081-0913927 or 076-2422725

I will be going there on Monday to get the parts I need and hopefully get them fitted so will let you all know.

Thanks again for the helpful info!! :D

PS I like the way the Joker drives and the engine does have power - I just cant get any of the locals to get the parts or fix it... they just tell me its too old. :)

Can you please check which one of the nrs is the right one? you posted

076-2422725 and i posted 076-242725 on the landline's nr.

It is true this seems to be the only one in Phuket ...if they don't have the spares it really shouldn't be a problem to have it sent ...takes some days and than you let the service center mount it.

Hi there,

thanks for clarifying. As far as i am informed this Service Center has very good relations with Tiger Motors only thing i am aware there is not the best english spoken....if any at all. This the info i got from Tiger Motors( and that was a few months back). This sounds promising but you may want to bring someone along with who speaks Thai.

Hope all works out fine( if not, Pm me or email me at support(at)tigersachsclub.com ),

Hi - so I went to the shop on Monday, drove past it a couple of times as I was expecting a "dealership" and it is a small Thai Bike shop, the guy was really nice and friendly but a Thai friend came with me to help with translations. I am getting the Main light unit replaced, the main speedo/ display unit replaced, the choke and electric start cables and units replace plus a general clean up and service and he is quoting me approx 5k THB and about a week to get everything done including getting the parts down form bangkok.

All in all a little bit more expensive than I was expecting but if I can get it sorted and running properly I will stick with it. It just needs a little TLC really like its owner LOL - anyway I will update once I get the bike back back and let you know how it looks and performs... thanks again for the help

Glad to hear that you sorted ...as mentioned before the address i posted of the Phuket Service Center is simply Service Center only ....not a dealership. So if you are in Phuket and want to order a new Tiger/Sachs Bike you can do so at the online shop on www.tigersachsclub.com ...

In all honesty ...this is the first time i heard anyone saying that the Tiger Boxer 250RS is expensive....the Tiger Boxer is known for getting outstanding value for money.

Maybe you should look at the smaller models Boxer 200R ( goes for 64000 THB ) or the Bulldog 150 ( goes for 52900 THB ) and you all Tiger Bikes lined up here: http://www.tigersach.../tproducts.html

Ken you must be some cheap son of a bitch:D. Where can you buy a brand new decent quality totally legal 250cc (232cc) bike with 3years, 30,000km warranty for less in Thailand.

Agreed. Definitely someone who wants something for nothing. I only hope the X-Road is round about the same price. Still waiting with crossed fingers. For now interested in the G-Max.

Saw my first Joker (I mean the bike not the person) in BKK a few days ago and it does not look bad.

Garry, the x-road 250 is gonna be more delayed as i been told...and no dates. if it is available you are looking at around 100000 thb for it ...or perhaps just below say 99900 thb... it would still be a good deal and a nice bike...sure not for everyones taste but i do like it.

Wow........ wash my mouth out with soap..... you would have thought i called you a cun_t or wanke_r but NO i used a very common american statement.

If 72,000b is beyond your budget fine. just say 'wow... thats beyond my budget'

(its beyond my budget at the moment as well :whistling: )

And if by calling me a JERK you imply i'm a wanke_r. Then wash YOUR mouth out with soap you rude, rude person :annoyed:

Ken , "expensive" and "exceeding your Budget" have 2 different meanings . My mothertongue is not english but it is easy for me to understand. that, If someting "exceeds your Budget" doesn't mean the product is "expensive" or sold above its value. Quite the opposite is the thuth with the Tiger Bikes . In fact you get some real good value for the money . The closest in displacement size to the boxer 250RS ( but actually a sportsbike) is the Kawasaki Ninja 250R which sells for 144000 THB ..now to find you a Bike that suits your Budget. May i suggest the Tiger Retro 110C. It is probably the Bike which is sold lowest in Price in all over Thailand ( for a new Bike) and comes with a 3 years/30000 km warranty. Price is 29800 THB.

Here a picture of the Tiger Retro 110C:
