Thailand to bid for 2019 Asian Games

BANGKOK, 9 February 2011 (NNT) – The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is moving towards the goal of bringing Thai sports to excellence while planning to join the bid for the 2019 Asian Games.

Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Sports Sombat Kuruphan announced the Ministry’s performance throughout 2010 and the new policy for this year under the concept of “Sports for All: All for Sports”, which highlights human and social development and the promotion of Thai people’s happiness. Missions include pushing forward the strategy to advance Thai sports, supporting the construction of standard stadiums across the country and proposing Thailand as a host candidate for the 18th Asian Games in 2019.

According to the Permanent Secretary, each country bidding for the Asian Games is required to send its documents to the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) by 15 February. The Sports Authority of Thailand, which is responsible for the task, has reportedly prepared all the papers for the submission.

Currently, other candidates bidding to host the regional sporting event held every 4 years include the United Arab Emirates, India, Taiwan and Vietnam.
