Will Customs Take My Sword?

Recommended Posts

I want to get some decent swords shipped here from USA, nothing antique, but fine steel and blades

the company shipping them is concerned about customs confiscating the swords as they are actually weapons

since it would be impossible to get a somewhat realistic answer from anybody official, lets see

what TV has to say...

aside from the normal danger of having ANYTHING shipped in... is there any specific laws regarding

swords or blades that I need to know about?

The following is a list (non-exhaustive) of prohibited or restricted merchandises and infractions:

  • prohibited merchandises (e.g., controlled substances, pornography, counterfeit goods, etc.);
  • restricted merchandises (e.g., restrictions imposed by textile quota agreements, the Ministry of Commerce, Food and Drug Administration, etc.);
  • undeclared, unreported or smuggled merchandise (e.g., goods undeclared by passengers entering Thailand, unreported currency over Baht 50,000, etc.);
  • goods which aid or facilitate the illegal importation of merchandise (e.g.,conveyances or other merchandise used to hide or conceal illegal goods)
  • Drugs and narcotics;
  • wildlife and flora smuggling; and
  • firearms and offensive weapons.

I think the last sentence applies here :whistling:

With Mick's post as backup, I just cannot fathom Thai customs letting sword/s get thru to any individual.

You say that, but I have seen some rather lethal weapons, openly on display here, on the markets, including swords?

I think he will get them through. But there will be some sort of tax or custom duty to pay. :)

There are fine swords here already made in Thailand.

There also some beautifully engraved shotguns.

There are also some excellent copies of samurai swords which are very good unless you thinking of going into battle or something.:lol:

Not sure on shipping items sorry.

When I moved to Thailand from the U.S. I brought a fine Japanese sword & my dagger collection 11 are razor sharp blades including one whaling blade meant to carve cartilage & bone 1 scimitar made in Toledo Spain. The only question I had to answer was ornamental dagger collection in both US & Thailand. They only cared about my other collection of Nascar & engine building technical data. I may have had 3 or 4 things on the No can Hab list :whistling:
