There are probably heaps more but not allowed to put the other paper comments in.

BANGKOK(AFP) – Two leaders of Thailand's "Red Shirt" protest movement, including an opposition politician, were sent to jail Thursday on terrorism charges after a courtrevoked their bail.

The Criminal Court ruledthat Jatuporn Prompan and Nisit Sinthuprai violated the terms of their freedomwith remarks they made about the revered monarchy at a rally in the capitallast month.

Not sure what your reply has to do with my post, but nevermind.

If your reply is in regards to politicians other than Thaksin receiving amnesty, then the notion that Jatuporn and Nisit are two other politicians in line for receiving amnesty, then I don't believe the amnesty proposal has gained any validity and would think that, given their records, the amnesty plea has even less credibility (if that's possible).

Democrats Ask Voters to Not to Help Get Thaksin Amnesty

The secretary-general of the Democrat Party is asking voters not to become a bargaining tool to bring about an amnesty for former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Secretary-General of the Democrat Party Suthep Thaugsuban reiterated the remark made by Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, asking voters to denounce any attempt to grant amnesty for former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

He said the cases against Thaksin must be allowed to go through the appropriate judicial process.

In addition, the Democrat Party secretary-general said that he is not trying to pressure the Election Commission into prosecuting the Pheu Thai Party for allowing red-shirt events to take place alongside the party's campaign activities.

He denied the Democrat Party is harboring its own group of supporters to attack its political rivals.

He's also denied the Democrats had anything to do with the latest move by the multi-colored shirt group.

The civic group, led by Tul Sitthisomwong, called for a probe into the stock holdings of Pheu Thai's number 1 party-list candidate Yingluck Shinawatra.

Furthermore, Suthep also thanked Prajak Na Songkhla, a Democrat party-list MP candidate, for resigning from the party after his son was arrested on an illegal drug possession charge.

He added the Democrat-led government has made the most drug-related arrests compared to any other administration, without a single extrajudicial killing.

Well you all say that Thaksin is/was corrupt but now look at what this democratic (Abhisit) party is doing. Now that it is getting closer to election time and they/he sees that PTP is closer to winning and Yingluk stands a chance in winning they are just using all the "you blame me, I blame you" strategy. The "my dad's bigger then your dad" strategy should not be another political strategy.

Why doesn't the Democrat party just stick with there campaign and leave the past out of it? If they think they can win fairly then just stop all the whining and let the Thai people decide.

Where is this idiots hard proof that Yingluk is seeking amnesty for her brother? Let the election happen and let the people decide who their next PM will be and just move ahead for god sakes.

her own mouth maybe?:ermm: When red shirts stop whining maybe Democrats will when they stop trying to bring back a deposed criminal maybe the democrats will get on with the election. Another problem down to the Shinawatra family!!!

Isn't it wonderful to live in a country where the criminals can seek legitimate power, actually gain that power, then declare amnesty for themselves and all others who have committed the same crime???? This will be the case if PTP wins, and it's so sad.

Makes me think anyone with a legitimate balance in their bank account earned through honest means is a sucker, especially here. Well, if leaders should lead by example, I guess we should switch jobs when PTP wins and Thaksin comes back, and follow his example and start defrauding everyone we can.

God I hope that day never comes.......

I didn't think she had a chance of winning this election, but some people and parties seem to be getting genuinely worried that she may win...

I am one that thinks she will go close to winning this election, along with Kaewsan Atiphoti, the guy that wants to file charges against her, because he is obviously worried that she has a chance.

Former Assets Examination Committee member Kaewsan Atiphoti stated that he will file charges against the Pheu Thai Party's prime ministerial candidate Yingluck Shinawatra for attempting to seek amnesty for her brother Thaksin Shinawatra.

Amnesty International will help him, the old Montenegrin man..........

1. An academic is to press charges against Ms. Yingluck, NOT the Democratic party. Consequently the reasoning 'so they are just using ...' is invalid.

2. The Dem's are not charging Ms. Yingluck, a academic does. The academic may be an old PAD supported, but he's not a Democrat party figure. Again, consequently your remark is invalid.

3. The hard proof Ms. Yingluck is seeking amnesty for her brother? Well, let's say she put k. Chalerm in charge of an amnesty plan for all political charged people from 2006 onwards. The exception are k. Abhisit/Suthep of course, in the name of reconciliation, fighting double standards, 'we're not to blame anyway', and so forth and without even a hint of seeming to seek revenge :-)

Apart from that, welcome to this forum, DocW

Maybe the academic was offended that one would make their party platform a blanket amnesty of a fugitive from justice and to add insult to injury he seeks that amnesty from his co-conspirator. Don't sweat it though. Ain't never gonna happen.

It is a matter of curiosity to me that Thai hi-so commit the most obvious and outrageous crimes without charges being laid, whether because of influence being applied or fear of retribution. The Thaksin clan are some of the most obvious offenders with their multiple shady share deals and dodging huge amounts of tax.

If the gent is in the position to file criminal charges, more power to him. I have a dream.........................the whole bloody tribe along with their staff dodging jail time in Dubai.

I think you are right he is dreaming, otherwise this would have happened a long time ago. He has been put up to it , as I said earlier they are a bit scared she may win the election. So why not try and tarnish her.

See what he say's at his press conference tomorrow at Parliament House.

Tarnish? since when is pointing out someones criminal activities "tarnishing" them. First, they have to have a shine, and to quote Stephen King (Christine) "you can't polish a turd!"

Thaksin denies he has a 4-step plan to get amnesty. That would be too complicated for his idiot followers who count 1, 2, many. It's a 2-step; get PTP elected, get amnesty.

well Stephen King was wrong! done it, varnish then polish, did it when in the R.N.!

It is the party which is trying to seek amnesty for all politicians not only for Thaksin

fair enough. Same question. What other politicians besides Thaksin are up for amnesty and what charges are they facing that will be dismissed?

I dont know who they all are but maby with your background in pasting quotes and pictures all over the TVF you may be able to enlighten us to who they all are.

I cant wait for the words of wisdom to come forth.

The amnesty is sought for "convicted politicians", who is that besides Thaksin?

http://www.nationmul...e-30155910.html

And please give me one good reason why the hell should any politician be given amnesty?!!! They should all answer up for their crimes. Otherwise, just let all the criminals go free, why don't 'cha?

'Yingluck seeking to whitewash her brother's crimes'

By NUTTHAPOL WANGSAP

THE NATION

30157195-01.jpg

Kaewsun Atibodhi, a law expert and former member of the post-coup Assets Examination Committee (AEC), said yesterday he moved against Pheu Thai Party's top candidate Yingluck Shinawatra because she was seeking to help her brother Thaksin "whitewash" his wrongdoings.

Instead of feeling remorse after the Supreme Court seized billions of baht worth of his assets earned from the controversial sale of Shin Corp, he said Thaksin was trying to get an amnesty - by sending his sister to contest for political power.

"Thaksin's way of thinking is that he can whitewash his wrongdoing through politics and the majority in the House. For him, when the majority says something is right, that is right," Kaewsun said.

"If they didn't think of using people to destroy the rule of law, I would not have got involved," he said.

Once a law lecturer, Kaewsun said he was a supporter of Thaksin when he first became prime minister in 2001 and faced the first asset concealment case. A majority of Constitutional Court judges ruled in favour of Thaksin in an infamous ruling.

Kaewsun said he defended Thaksin by describing the case as weak. However, he changed his mind after Thaksin presided over a corrupt government.

"I helped him a lot. Now it's time for me to right my sin."

Kaewsun said his move against Yingluck was not politically motivated. "I don't care which political party will become government or not. I just view this upcoming election as the first step towards amnesty for Thaksin," he said.

He expected Pheu Thai to begin the process of issuing an amnesty law for Thaksin if it wins the election and gains political power.

Kaewsun said his strategy was to highlight Yingluck's conflict of interest - because she was involved in last year's asset concealment case against Thaksin, which led to many of his assets being seized.

He said that in the case, the court ruled against Thaksin but no legal action was taken against Thaksin's witnesses, including Yingluck, for perjury (lying to the court). He said defence witnesses should be seen as having made false statements to the court.

Thaksin's many attempts to get an amnesty were the main cause for the lingering political conflict. "He wants to make a political comeback but can't do so because he needs an amnesty," he said.

Thaksin is escaping imprisonment for conflict of interest he was sentenced in 2008. Without amnesty, he will be banned from becoming PM again.

While it is understandable that some might be confused with the wording in the OP (as evidenced above), it should be pointed out that Kaewsan is not seeking to have Yingluck prosecuted for attempting to seek amnesty.

He is seeking to have her prosecuted on three counts of perjury for lying during her brother's assets case.

A less garbled version of events related to the above is available with "the other paper."

Thaksin’s Advisor Denies Amnesty Plot

The legal advisor to ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is preparing to file a lawsuit against Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva for saying that his client is hatching a four-step plot to seek amnesty.

Noppadon Pattama, legal advisor to self-exiled former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, said he is planning to file a lawsuit against Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva for saying during an interview that Thaksin has crafted a four-step plan to get amnesty for himself.

Noppadon denied the existence of such a plan and expressed astonishment over Abhisit’s comment.

He believes the issue was stirred up by the pro-Democrat media, which posed a misleading question.

Thaksin’s legal advisor insisted that this is not linked to the four-step plan previously mentioned by the People’s Alliance for Democracy and stated that the yellow-shirt group has already lost credibility due to internal conflicts.

Noppadon added that the prime minister should act ethically and refrain from making false accusations.

Noppadon says no plan for amnesty.

Chalerm has made publc statements that he is in charge of getting amnesty and there have been reports that the documents to be tabled are in prepartion now.

Yingluck is all over the place with her statements about this matter.

Who do you believe?

It's not a matter of "trying to tarnish her", she has been found de-facto guilty of perjury already before the law. Her testimony in the civil case was deemed false. In any other country that trial would have been swiftly followed up with criminal charges of perjury. That was not the case here but it's still out there. For most would be politicos that would be enough of a disincentive, but not so for Thaksin.

So why has this not happened? Not a challenge just learning.biggrin.gif Perjury is a felony in the states with jail time if convicted.

It is a smart preemptive move on his part to stop any chance for this Yingluck to waddle around or even change the law. Better she tell her brother to come back to start his prison term. Better she stand by the law and see that it is enforced properly regardless who is who, I mean if she get's the top job which is highly unlikely.

I think for all of the 'intelligent' people who say "let the past stay in the past", they need to take a serious look at themselves and their double standard. Would they hire a person convicted of drug dealing, murder, rape or theft to be their maid or work at their company? I think not.

The past is one of the strongest factors to determine future performance, and especially as seen in The Nation article, if Thaksin, his family or supporters get into power, the same things will happen again!!!!!! If the rest of the world can figure that, and Thailand wonders why it isn't competitive, maybe these people should consider that statement to move forward and not keep making the same mistakes as the past. This will be a mistake!!!

I think the two most pressing problems of Thai society are corruption and the non enforcement of laws. In view of that, the support of some people to bring Thaksin back (or have another one of his proxies running the show) as a solution to Thailand's problems is tragically ironic.

Academic Firm on Legal Action against Thaksin's Sister

A former Assets Examination Committee member insists he will work to thwart the amnesty attempt by the Pheu Thai Party's prime ministerial candidate, saying he will not allow anybody to exploit politics to break free from corruption-related charges.

Former Assets Examination Committee member Kaewsan Atiphoti affirmed he will move forward in pressing charges against Yingluck Shinawatra for attempting to seek an amnesty for her brother Thaksin Shinawatra.

He explained that Yingluck has been used as part of an attempt to seek amnesty for the ousted premier, who have multiple criminal cases pending against him.

Kaewsan noted that he will file a complaint with the Department of Special Investigation and public prosecutors on June 21 to press charges against Yingluck as the court issued a verdict on Thaksin's assets concealment case years ago, but no state agency has taken legal action against the accomplices, including Yingluck, so far.

Kaewsan alleged that since Thaksin was found guilty of assets concealment, Yingluck was involved as she had submitted false documents to the Assets Examination Committee and the Stock Exchange of Thailand and even gave a perjury in court.

Kaewsan said if Yingluck will really seek an amnesty for Thaksin, she must give up the effort or she will be condemned for seeking an amnesty for herself too.

He went on to say he did not agree with using politics to seek an amnesty as other people will follow suit and therefore, there needs to be separation between politics and the law.

He added that state agencies that have not taken legal action against Yingluck will be liable to legal punishments under Article 157 for failing to perform their duty.

As a means of perspective, we're still waiting on Red Shirt cases from 2007 and also waiting for Potjaman to begin her prison sentence from her conviction in 2008.

If you insist in posting the same misinterpretation in two topics, let me post my reply in each as well:

As far as I understand the English language article, the SEC says "The Securities and Exchange Commission has insisted that its proceedings against Yingluck Shinawatra for her involvement in the Shin Corporation Plc's share scandal, is final and over." Note the 'it's proceedings are final and over'.

In even plainer English TAN Network says

"SEC: Yingluck Did Not Violate Securities Law Despite Committing Perjury

UPDATE : 13 June 2011

The Securities and Exchange Commission, or SEC, has announced that, despite committing perjury while testifying during her brother's assets concealment case, Yingluck Shinawatra did not violate the 1992 Securities and Stock Exchange Law"
