Find it surprising that Prachuap Kirikhan is so low on the list. Guess that most migrantworkers in PK are working in the Hua Hin, where cost of living is among the highest in Thailand ! Next time you complain about petty stuff like dualpricing or being overcharged 10 baht by the motosaitaxi, imagine how to survive on 220-300 baht a day.

And these rates don't apply to millions of employees in the informal economy, day laborers where payroll is pretty much a hand-to-hand baht payment with no withdrawals for any taxes, social security, few if any payment records, etc.

Yes it is very discriminatory and look at inflation going up, every time go for fuel it gone up, yesterday another 60 satang, how locals cope is another thing altogether. Smaller portions will apply to food until they stick in a price rise. It was a poor policy that has helped nobody and as usaul the poor will be hit hardist.

will companies actually honor these rates?

Actually, I am already feeling this. My workers are demanding this amount or they won't come to work. Not all, but some. The problem is some companies in Rayong and Chonburi are already paying this new rate to attract workers, and I am having to match it or lose workers to these other companies. So the "enforcement" is partially already happening by the workers themselves. It is an employees market down there. Very easy for them to walk off one of my sites and have a job the same day somewhere else.

Yep. it seems like thailand is good place to do freelancing or business where you live where you work (so you pay the rent anyway). I'm amazed at how some companies get to where they are today here (that require multiple employees). Perserverence is a great trait for entrepreneurs. It's really a myth that thai people are begging for jobs persay. It's similar in the west in that everyone was the best working conditions and, given similar proximity to job location, would much rather prefer the company offering the most benefits/payouts. Who really wants to work at burger king? But in the west, people are willing to work entry level to gain experience necessary to then find a higher paying job. And plus the "wanting" and individualism is much higher, so most people want some kind of paycheck, whether from gov't or otherwise
