BANGKOK, June 14 – The anti-government Thai Spring movement is organising the first “online political rally” to take place on a social media network, starting June 23, group leaders announced today.

In a news conference at Parliament, former deputy police chief Vasit Dejkunjorn said the “Thai Spring Forum” on Facebook will provide information and opinions on the government’s mismanagement during its two-year administration.

Pol Gen Vasit, also former chief of the Police Royal Court Security, was accompanied by Kaewsun Atibodhi and Kwansuang Atibodhi, staunch opponents of the government.

They jointly launched a website, Thai Spring, last month and expanded their activities to a new forum on Facebook where newly-updated information will be regularly uploaded from June 23 to July 28.

Thai Spring 2, an extended activist group, will be in charge of the “Thai Spring Forum” which will concentrate its activities in the cyber world without holding public rallies, said Pol Gen Vasit.

After Gen Vasit and his group left the news conference, Wattana Sengpairoh, Parliament Speaker spokesman, walked into the room and said the group inappropriately occupied the conference room for a non-parliamentary activity.

He said the news conference was unconstructive and meant to create conflicts in the country, adding that their request to use the room should be endorsed by a lawmaker. (MCOT online news)

One may wonder if just anybody can walk into parliament and setup a conference in the news conference room. Mind you, in Thailand some things are being taken easy. Even criminal fugitives can skype-in into cabinet meetings.

Thai Spring slammed for using Parliament as venue for press conference
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Thai Spring group was slammed Friday for having the nerve to hold a press conference at Parliament and will be banned from using this venue in the future.

The group's leader Kaewsan Athibodhi had invoked his rights as a former senator to call the press conference in the Parliament compound. Also present were other key leaders, namely Pol General Vasit Dejkunchorn and Kwansruang Atibodhi.

However, Watana Senpairoh, spokesman for the House Speaker, said he and other parliamentary officials had been reprimanded for letting this happen, adding that it was wrong to use a government building to announce policies that cause rifts in society.

Pheu Thai spokesman Promphong Nopparit joined Watana in attacking the group's leaders, saying using the venue was inappropriate as it was the working place of parliamentarians and not a venue to discuss issues that will only cause conflicts.

When asked why red-shirt leaders could hold media events at Parliament, Watana said they were allowed because Pheu Thai MPs accompanied them. He added that Thai Spring could use the venue again if MPs or senators supported them.

Meanwhile, the three leaders announced to the press that they will be launching online rallies via the Facebook page Thai Spring Forum to step up pressure on Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, whom they denounced as the "nation's betrayer".

I guess the latest message is that parliament is not a venue to discuss issues that will cause conflicts. In a way just getting rid of the opposition and even reluctant elements in the government's parties would help as well.

Surely this is the type of good news our PM wanted to see publised more to let the public know what good work the government does.

All very 1984. Rifts on society? Is the point of living and breathing in Thai politics to avoid all confrontation. I swear, this idea that everything must be hunkey dorey is killing this country.

Isn't it infinitely better that these issues get settled politically through elections than having to resort to coups?

"Thai Spring" is a preposterous concept that has nothing to do with Arab Spring on which it is based and copied. Typically Thai to just go ahead and copy and pirate something of others without understanding its true meaning or significance.

O this Brain poor and jealous cronys of coup makers still try to keep Thailand 30 year's back in time through Dictatorship !!

I know. It's worrying alright what the Clayton's coup that the dictatorial Shinawatra mafia are undertaking will do to Thailand. 30 years? I would say looking at Thaksins mates in Cambodia, and at the likes of North Korea (a people bullcrap spoon fed and controlled failed state) then the dictatorial wishes of Thaksin are not for 30 years but also for the future of his pea brain son Oak.

Parliament not right venue, Thai Spring told
The Nation

BANGKOK: - The Thai Spring group was slammed yesterday for having the nerve to hold a press conference at Parliament and will be banned from using this venue in the future.

The group's leader Kaewsan Athibodhi had invoked his rights as a former senator to call the press conference in the Parliament compound. Also present were other key leaders, namely Pol General Vasit Dejkunchorn and Kwansruang Atibodhi.

When asked why red-shirt leaders could hold media events at Parliament, Watana said they were allowed because Pheu Thai MPs accompanied them.

Meanwhile, the three leaders announced that they will be launching online rallies via the Facebook page Thai Spring Forum to step up pressure on PM Yingluck Shinawatra, whom they denounced as the "nation's betrayer".

Kaewsan said every day for six days a video link will be posted on the page. The campaign kicks off at 6pm on June 23 and wraps up on June 28.

He added that he was not afraid of authorities blocked the page. "By law, a Facebook page cannot be shut down until legal action is taken against the page owner," he said.

Meanwhile, Vasit said the campaigns were being held under Article 69, which allows people to demonstrate peacefully against efforts to seize ruling power through unconstitutional means. He added that he was not afraid of being killed like government-critic Akeyuth Anchanbutr was. Though the police have been putting the murder down to theft, others believe he might have been assassinated at the order of someone.

The Thai Spring group was founded by setting up a website to seek signatures from people opposed to the speech delivered by Yingluck in Mongolia. Kaewsan said that 26,173 people had put their names down so far.

Based on our relatively small group of Thai friends their opinion about politics in general i sincerely wonder why red and yellow make such a fuzz about something nobody is interested in........politics is not on Thai minds, inflation and debts are!

.........and just who has been responsible for creating 'said' inflation and debts???

On this, I doubt that this IS on Thai's minds as they probably think inflation is blowing up a balloon or tyre!!!

The debts they are aware of as this impacts their lives and happiness directly - problem is, they don't associate it with the incompetence of this truly awful government, unfortunately!!

True.

But you and me might understand there is a relation between inflation & debts and politics,

And the strange thing is, I hear sounds that many Thai people are getting this understanding also.

Just by calling it the Thai spring shows how clueless they are.

Oh really? Maybe you dont understand the concept of the beginnings of something new as "spring " is after "winter" . have a look at recent terminology used against anti "fake, psuedo, democracies" (which Thailand is) in other parts of the world.
