EU raises humanitarian assistance to migrants in Thailand

BANGKOK: -- The European Union is committing a further 125,000 euro (Bt5.1 million) to provide humanitarian assistance to Rohingya and Bangladeshi migrants, currently being held in immigration detention centres (men) and social welfare facilities (women and children) in Thailand.

This brings the total EU assistance to these detainees to 325,000 euro (Bt13.8 million) since June 2013, it said in a statement.

The EU said that following inter-communal violence in Rakhine State in Myanmar since June 2012, thousands of Rohingya have been fleeing on boats, many hoping to reach Malaysia and other destinations.

In January 2013, some 2,000 Rohingya men, women and children were detained in Thailand. In 2014, a further 1,000 Bangladeshi and Rohingya people ended up in the same detention situation.

I am getting old and foolish...

reading the headline ("EU raises humanitarian assistance to migrants in Thailand")

I was thinking, the EU was actually starting to help EU citizen, who are in trouble

while staying in Thailand f.e. having serious health problems, beeing victims of criminals, having accident, jailed f.e. for not having proper visa.

silly old man I am. I should go to see my doctor ....

Maybe you should read little bit more about Rohingya and what happened to these people. These people didn't come to Thailand to enjoy the nightlife or the beaches. They are forced to flee their home because of getting killed.

-Health Insurance and sufficient funds before moving to third world country.

-when moving to foreign country you are subject to the laws of said country also concerning getting the proper paperwork in order to legaly stay in said country,EU rights do not apply in Thailand.

No need to see doctor al said info can be found on website's from EU country embassy website or ministry of foreign affairs and you are not a refugee.

If they weren't moslems, the Eu won't give a damn. When are people going to wake and see what is going on. Islam is tryign to colonize the entire world with their wretched poor.

first:

Thailand is not such a poor country any more. If the government would like to help the Rohingya refugees, there would be enough funds for doing it.

Second:

Millions of European citizen are coming to Thailand every year. It is just normal, that lets say 0.1 % or may be less will get serious trouble (thats roundabout maybe 5000 per year)

(again: being victim of criminal activities , health problems, etc.)

please no blaming of these victims ! At some point in ones life one needs outside help and especially if you your 8000 miles away from your home

or /and if especially, if you get older and older !!!!

Nothing to do with proper visa! And even, If you have health insurance, you need help if serious ill. Many people only realize when they get ill, that their insurance do NOT pay ( I could tell your some stories!).

I myself once was trying trying to help an old (!), robbed US citizen, who was stranded helpless with no money left. He was sleeping outside in Pattaya and only the motorcy guys did help him. I contacted the US Embassy, but that was a total waste of time!!

I know, there are many people, who seem to do everything do get in to trouble. I do not like these people very much, but will always give everyone my helping hand, when he is in great danger and is totally helpless. And (by profession) I know, that it is not easy to help someone, especially when someone is totally helpless.

In my opinion, we have to help first our own human fellow man, and secondly animals !

Most people, I do not like that much, but I can not stand to let someone helpless to suffer (or even die) before my eyes without even trying to help him, knowing, that in many cases I cant do anything.

They have dropped more than this on apartment rents for their staff in Bangkok. I am not sure which is worse.

The pathetic effort of the EU to help or their pathetic effort to make it look like 350k euro is a lot of money.
