Police determined to suppress illegal street racing on highways

BANGKOK, 19 August 2014 (NNT) – The Royal Thai Police are set to intensify suppression of illegal motorbike racing on highways in Bangkok and its vicinity from midnight onward and assess the outcome within the next 7 days.

Lt Gen Ruangsak Jariteak, Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, has announced that the action against the motorbike gangs focuses on illicit races in Bangkok and outskirts including Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakarn, Samut Sakhon, and Nakhon Prathom.

Meanwhile, the Land Traffic Act, Children Protection Act and Industrial Product Standards Act will be enforced strictly. Motorbike gangs, race promoters, crowds, and garages will all be liable to be charged under relevant laws.

Police officers will prevent motorcycle races on 10 major roads; Ratchadapisek Road, Kaset Nawamin Road, Kanchanapisek Road, Rama IV Road, Vibhavadi Road, Petchaburi Road, Ramintra Road, Ratchapruek Road, Bangna-Trat Road, and Petchakasem Road.

I wonder what the stats are for those races. Er, not the racing stats and speeds, but the number of accidents, etc.

I live near one of the race highways, and I hear them now and then at night. Frightful speeds...

can not call them children, most are over 16, then one teenager and can ride a motorcycle, if you like the nanny state country, is better to live in europe or oceania :)

Awfully nice of the RTP to announce to the world (and the racers) where and when their focus will be. So they shut down or move for a week. Then the results will be insignificant.

The following week.................business (or racing) as usual. And the winning studs will have to do without the "hottie" prizes for a wee bit.

Yes, Sooty, those are the only things the police are involved in.

Ok so lets give them ample warning when, where, and how long this strict enforcenent will be for. That way the gangs know to be sure how to find the police if they have any questions

One priority means a focus.

100 priorities means nothing will ever get done.

I would settle for the police having a crackdown on people riding the wrong way down one way streets. Or maybe to install more cameras to catch the speeders. But leaving law enforcement to the police means that nothing at all will get done, except the handing over of tea money by poor folk.

This is exactly what I did before I moved to Thailand. Every weekend we would have a stunt show at another location which was only announced a few hours ahead, always a road on a industrial park or alike which we blocked off, and usually we had over 1000 spectators. When police arrived the spectators would prevent that police could reach us and we could escape.

Made several times the 8 O'Clock news, including a few real tv programs on national and international tv, and the frontpages of all major newspapers . That were the days.

On the other hand , would a place where they can hold their races ,like an unused airstrip or similar not take some of the illigals off the streets ?

There's a drag strip out the other side of Bangkok. It's a long drive but these ratbag kids have to be taught to do the right thing.
