Nan River banks erode at various spots due to torrential rains

BANGKOK, 21 August 2014 (NNT) - Torrential rains during the past 1-2 weeks in Phitsanulok province have raised the water levels of the Nan River, causing erosion along several parts of the riverbanks.

At the Night Bazaar Market’s parking lot in Phitsanulok’s downtown area located close to the river, there were signs that the road surface was starting to wear down.

Residents living near the area said the Nan River’s banks were on the verge of collapse since the 2011 Flood Crisis in Thailand and the recent rains in Phitsanulok have exacerbated the effects of the bank’s erosion.

Authorities from the Phitsanulok Municipality have felt increasingly concerned about the problem, as the area has is frequented by locals and tourists. They have placed warning signs on areas that are deemed unsafe at this point before eventually carrying out repair procedures.
