MILAN, Oct 17 -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha has called for increasing cooperation between Asian and European countries and for Europe to participate more in mobilising funds for investment in basic infrastructure projects in the Asian region.

His proposals were made Thursday in a speech at the opening of the 10th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) which opened in this Italian city on Wednesday.

Leaders of 51 countries and two international organisations are participating in the four-day meeting, began Wednesday.

Gen Prayut said Thailand has constantly helped develop partnership between the two regions in the past and because of the global complexity, there is a need for reviewing strategies designed for promoting financial and economic cooperation between the two regions.

There is a need for political leadership in widening Asia-Europe connectivity as well as using knowledge and expertise, resources and investment, said Gen Prayut, adding that he would like to propose three major strategies.

He said Thailand has plans to develop basic infrastructures which would connect with its neighbouring countries.

These projects are aimed at developing goods transportation, services and labour in order to open new markets to cater for the launching of the ASEAN Economic Community, due to get off the ground at end-2015, and for the future cooperation between Asia and Europe, said Gen Prayut.

He also urged every party to realise a possible shortage of food and energy in future due to global climate change and rising demand.

On Thursday, Gen Prayut held bilateral talks with his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen and both agreed not to let the two countries’ border problem to obstruct trade and investment.

Gen Prayut proposed that the two countries help cooperate in maritime energy resources, set up a special economic zone in Thai border area opposite the Cambodian border town of Poi Pet, establish facilities for Cambodian people to work in Thailand.

Mr Hun Sen, meanwhile, agreed to Gen Prayut’s proposals and asked that they be discussed in detail during his October 30-31 visit to Cambodia.

Yesterday Gen Prayut also met his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong, whom he asked for more Singaporean investment in Thailand, especially in agricultural products food processing.

Gen Prayut also asked for more cooperation in developing transportation modes between the two countries.

In response, Mr Lee said the Thai government should accelerate boosting confidence for foreign investors and tourists and invited Gen Prayut to visit and explain Thailahnd's concerns and situation to the Singapore business community. (MCOT online news)

His aims and ideas are no different to those of the previous administrations apart from the fact the previous administrations efforts were aimed at self enrichment as opposed to national enrichment.

Richer how? Tourism? hell no! Exports, not even close! Industry? Get out of here! Surely PM's younger brother tho.

The 2 administrations are the same kind of corrupted crowd, only they serve different masters.

He has one major drawback; he is a dictator!

He will also be gauged on performance or 'you are only as good as your last sale'.

Cleaned up a beach; still negotiating a murder investigation.

Although the intent is on the money, I don't know if Europe is ready for his kind at the moment. They are still going through economic problems which are rearing again. One battle at a time.

and one of the beaches he cleaned up is back in full swing! (Hua Hin)

Wow... now he's represnting Asia, not just Southeast Asia, but ASIA! Which includes countries like Japan, Korea and China, to name a few. I'm sure these and other Asian countries will be very thankful to the good general for paving the way forward.

As I suspected all Western leaders are boycotting the JUNTA chief.

He is flying to Milan to meet Abe from Japan, the Chinese PM, the Singapore PM and finally his arch enemy Hun Sen.

Then he wines about his wife that is bashing on him at night. YS or Prayuth? On the world stage I would say YS did better if she of course has a translator.

In Thailand Prayuth can play his show but overseas no one really cares as Thailand is already marked as a pariah state by the International community,

Unless my memory is bad, Thailand re-Thaksin/Yingluck/PTP red shirts were not a good foundation for the world to smile. Reputation you speak about the PM, is --as was. Are you seriously suggesting(( now most of PTP mishandling is in the open)) Thailand had a fine reputation before the armies intervention.???

If you define fine reputation as countries that will openly welcome the Premier into any countries, than I said seriously that Yingluck does have fine reputation.

No answer to my points ??? typical of your clans propaganda machine. when genuine points are mentioned your lot have the same one liner replies.

If you people want to slag off the army/PM, you have to be able to back up the last regimes reputation.

Do you have to answer for Alwyn ??? as you all have the ready scripted replies to any posters points.
