Two committees to be established to handle human trafficking issues

BANGKOK, 20 Dec 2014, (NNT) - Two special committees will be set up to compile data on the improvement of the government's performance in relation to its efforts in eradicating human trafficking problems, which will be reported to the U.S. next month, says Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan.

According to the General, one of the two committees will be in charge of the report on domestic and international human trafficking activities, and the other will handle the report on the country's efforts in eradicating beggars. Both committees will send the compiled data to the supervising unit during a meeting on December 9th, before producing the final report for the U.S.

Earlier this year, the U.S. downgraded Thailand to Tier 3, the lowest rank for human trafficking eradicating efforts.

The report will be sent to the U.S. before January 30th.

One month before the report is due to the USA, two committees are established to handle HT issues. What has been accomplished thus far?

1) Statements that any discovered HT was the fault of nonThais

2) A declaration that HT no longer exists based upon the lack of any data to the contrary

3) Ministers were assigned to study the issue

4) Gen. Prayuth discussed the issue with other ASEAN leaders

5) Eliminate HT opportunities by supplying prisoners

6) Educate agricultural and fishing sectors to watch for HT

The task now: two Committees to promote the Junta's accomplishments - see #1 thru #7

Will the USA be that easy to appease?

You mean 'committees'? Like the first class burials of pseudo-PM Yingluck's time?

Yep, focus on the beggars then, that won't disturb all the many juicy companies in hands of 'influential persons' who make a lot of money thanks to human trafficking, couldn't make a problem to them, could we? Nooo...

I sincerely hope the US and EU will see through the Thai trickery, and punish Thailand in the strongest way! Not out of 'Thai bashing', just out of respect for all the innocent human beings abused by greedy bastards of 'entrepreneurs'! And the more deserved because of the long row of hypocritical official denials! Lurn to lose face, a bit, or learn to lose business, a lot!

I know pretty well the Thai economy would sink like an anvil without the abuse and traffick of human beings, but does that justify it, make it acceptable?

Imagine Thailand offering quality labour at a measured price, with a 'free from human trafficking' label... Less profits? Not sure at all, but for sure no more for the abusive scums...

P.S.: I also know it's the same in all low-salaries countries, Asia in front, but two, or many, wrongs don't make one right, is it? Especially when individual human rights are concerned, isn't it...?

Good point. What is U.S's rank as human traffickers? Tier one? Are Mexicans being trafficked into the U.S?

Strange I thought the U.S.A. were trying to stop Mexicans getting in.

Good question. The USA ranks itself as Tier I, clearly it does not view itself completely free of human trafficking. USA government statistics indicate between 14,500 and 17,500 people are trafficked into the United States each year.
