Bangkok:- Police arrested seven South Korean men for having allegedly been running an online gambling website in Bangkok for over three years.

The arrest was made at 6 pm Friday when police, armed with a search warrant from the Criminal Court, raided a room on the 19th floor of the Belle Grand Rama 9 condominium.

The raid was led by Crime Suppression Division acting commander Pol Col Akkaradej Pimolsri.

Police found the seven South Korean men sitting in front of their computers. Five of them were identified as Na Dae Wung, 37, Xin Juyong, 29, Un Bengo, 24, Yun Jaewoo, 40, Han Sunghun, 25. The two others did not carry a passport so they were not identified.

Police seized five desktop computers and four notebook computers and some computer accessories.

Police have investigated and learned that the alleged gang has been running Play and Ground and SBox 369 gambling sites.

Akkaredej said the arrest was a joint operation between the CSD and the investigation division of the Huay Kwang police station.

He said an investigation found that a gang of South Korean men rented two rooms at the condominium building to host a computer server for running gambling websites to let gamblers bet on results of sports competitions, such as football, basketball, and baseball.

Akkaredej said the gambling sites have been receiving about Bt30 million to Bt90 million a month.

The suspects have been renting two rooms, each of Bt60,000 a month, as an office and their living place.

He said the suspects have been moving around condominiums in Bangkok for three years to host their gambling server computer and all of their customers are South Koreans.

While in my hood a football betting scheme is running with knowledge of all BIB in the area for at least ten years. They don't even bother to give their bet forms openly to anyone who ask for it. Every week some guys on motorbikes come to collect the envelopes. Some of the hawkers in the hood are in serious trouble because they piled up depths because of this.

Now guess who is running the den... (not farrangs)

So if all their customers are Korean, how did they break Thai law?

For running a gambling den in Thailand.

Technically not in Thailand but in virtual world

They are clearly based in Thailand undertaking those activities - how they are undertaken: in person, by phone over the Internet - is immaterial.

Funny (or idiotic) how they look at gambling in LOS ... seems like its okay for everybody at Muay Thai to gamble like crazy people but 4 chineseplaying a friendly game of Cards at Svampy waiting for a plane can "go viral" and thais go insane about it ...

Little like prostitution is not legal even tho you can get a BJ just about everywhere and most thaimen have their mia noi (prostitutes also) ...clap2.gif

Are you concerned that the other two are your relatives? You should be wearing an Einstein t-shirt too...

Funny they wear Einstein t-shirts. Smart but in order for the diffusion process to be initiated (Diffusion refers to the process by which molecules intermingle as a result of their kinetic energy of random motion) The molecules of both objects must be in constant motion and make numerous collisions with the partition. But even with that you need Einstein, diffusion pressure and their brains. The outcome in their case was they became as smart as cotton.

It is normal in Thailand everywhere that they have underground lottery. The difference to this is that they pay the police regularly, i.e. in case of the lottery per drawing they will pay the police a fix amount. Nothing secret, everyone knows where to buy those tickets etc.

The South Koreans didn't pay the police hence why they got arrested and maybe the police in South Korea investigated the case and asked Thailand for help, just guessing...

I heard that foriegn drug traffickers caught leaving at the airport used that excuse as well.

The thais should just let foreigners do whatever they want, right konying?

I thought South Koreans could only by law have a selection of five names or something? is that correct? Anyway seems to be good business and only reason Police got involved of course is the bribes they expect to get out of it.
