Thailand used to be a world leader both in chopping off penises of those desiring sexual reassignment surgery, and penile reattachment for men who upset their girlfriends but want to retain their original sexual identity. Will the event be discussing the latest advances in these areas?

And no doubt will finally announce the granting of the patent on Thailand's cure for Ebola they so loudly and internationally announced discovery of a few months back.

This again goes back to November, 2014 when Prayut;s team stated the success of the US business council meeting where "Opportunity for new investment in high-end medical device manufacturing in Thailand due to increased demand in the healthcare market".

He is true to his word and I hope Prayut reminds the attendees at the opening ceremony that not one excerpt from a company news conference was required as proof that Prayut was correct when he indicated foreign interest in investing in Thailand's medical industries.

I don't recall seeing that picked up by a single foreign newspaper or aggregator, not one.

Which was odd because there was a world-wide panic about Ebola.

Maybe the hospital announcing the cure didn't have a lot street cred or maybe the word 'Thailand' didn't add to the credibility?

Wasn't that the 'Rubbish Collector's' hospital? Good PR that was.

Didn't realise nanos were covered by the health service. Those ambulances must be damn small.....

Most kind, thanks.

It would be nice if the scepticism in the articles were not founded... fingers crossed eh? However developing a cure without access to the ebola virus? Maybe.

And it was Siriraj no less.

Yup! AIDS and Ebola cures for all!

Well, a part of me wants it to be true, really because of the humanitarian benefit. But I know the Thai medical system and the Thai education system and have had the personal experience of having to correct a diagnosis from one of the allegedly 'top doctors in Thailand' who was allegedly educated in USA and who was almost completely incompetent - of course that may have contributed to his return to Thailand. A physician working out of Rama 9 hospital.

He was a muppet, and most Thai doctors I have ever come across are consistent in their muppet-ness. Except perhaps 2 and one of those is early days yet.

The Thai psychiatrists, oddly are generally better in attitude but frequently just as incompetent in expertise, which might explain the sky-high rate of mental illness in LOS. One of them I spent some time with claimed he saw on average 80-90 patients per day at Khon Kaen before moving to Bangkok. If true, that's just appalling.

So the precedents are not promising.

But I do hope they are both competent and not just funding-hunting, though one of the links provided strongly suggests that between the lines.

Now there is a vaccine that works against airborne Ebola. A team of Norwegian doctors working for WHO managed to do this in only 10 months. They are still not sure about the fluid borne Ebola. Because that one have a different nature. But do not worry, Thailand and North Korea already have the cure.
