Longer Brunei-Malaysia border hours

BRUNEI: -- Brunei and Malaysia have agreed to extend operating hours of border checkpoints until midnight, reported The Brunei Times.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak told media after the annual leaders’ consultation between Brunei and Malaysia that the two-hour extension is to overcome difficulties faced by people who travel between the two countries regularly.

However, no date was given for the implementation of the new operating hours.

Currently, immigration posts are open from 6am to 10pm at the four border crossings between Malaysia and Brunei.

Najib said the agreement was reached during talks with His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, at Istana Nurul Iman Tuesday.

During their talks, the two leaders urged their officials to strengthen tourism cooperation and noted the establishment of the Brunei-Sarawak Tourism Working Group, tasked with collaborating in areas of accessibility and connectivity, marketing and promotion, as well as safety and security.
