The Decisive Moment

Recommended Posts

On a thread in this section of the photography forum named On the light side, I posted

a saying by Zack Arias...post #38.

So just exactly what is this elusive Decisive Moment?

That's kinda difficult to explain because everybody who is interested in photography

must have their own description/idea of it. Henri Cartier-Bresson coined the phrase

long ago and I'm sure he'd agree with me, if he were still alive, that we all have our

own manifestations of what a decisive moment is.

Hiowever...when you experience it...when that shot grabs your soul the moment you

capture that image...you feel it. It is unmistakeable...the hairs on the back of your

neck may stand up...your heart may speed up a bit...there may be a lump in your

throat...and there will surely be, from way down inside, a satisfied grin on your face.

That's just a few of my experiences when things go well...the following video has

HCB explain that moment in his own words...

An inspiration to us all.....

Henri Cartier-Bresson, made an impact on my life when I was 12 years old and still to this day, a legend.

At the time I was into painting, he opened my eyes to photography and the art, amazing.
