HAWTHORNE, California (AP) — Two mosques in the city of Hawthorne were vandalized Sunday with paint and a fake grenade was left in the driveway of one of the properties, police said, adding that the FBI is helping with the investigation.

The Hawthorne Police Department said it received a report early Sunday that a possible explosive device had been left outside the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Baitus-Salaam Mosque. Officers found a replica of a hand grenade and the word "Jesus" sprayed in white paint on the mosque's metal gate. Later, the department received a second call reporting the phrase "Jesus is the way" had been painted on the Islamic Center of Hawthorne's facade.

Police said the vandalism occurred overnight and that both incidents are consider hate crimes.

Authorities on Friday arrested 23-year-old Carl James Dial Jr. of Palm Desert in connection with a fire at the Islamic Center of Palm Springs. Dial was booked for investigation of commission of a hate crime, arson, maliciously setting a fire and burglary. The fire at the Islamic Center was contained to the small building's front lobby. No one was injured.

Vandalism yes, but hate no. writing "Kill them all" would be hate.....but Jesus, where is the hate?

If I write "Allah is great" on a church, no one would speak about hate, just about vandalism.

I wonder how long it takes the responsible parties to label an Islamic act (terrorism), terrorism. The Texas Army shooting took YEARS. The recent Cali shooting days. The pig head being tossed and the spray painting of a mosque...immediate 'hate crime'. I sure do hate terrorism/terrorists too!

This will be the sad, preventable, and predictable result of denying islamic terrorism is islamic terrorism. By telling the truth, which everyone knows, those with positive hope of engagement and urge to reformation, can craft a constructive narrative. But there is no constructive narrative from western progressive governments because they deny the earth is round--- islamic terrorism is islamic terrorism. The end result will be people reaching various, sometimes the same, conclusions based on self evident facts- there is a connection! The difference is without the truth as part of the narrative there is no control of any constructive message. Denying islamic terrorism is islamic terrroism does not indict all islam- there actually is a connection! What it does is create the environment for discourse and greater understanding. Its one of the dumbest things I have ever seen in this life. Sadly, the blowback from idiots hurting potentially innoncent muslims will be the very people being victimized-western citizens- and their then lashing out, rightly or wrongly, WILL be properly labeled by the government, making western citizens victims again.

(Yea, I get it that innocents are victimized. That is the backstory. The main story will be the race by governments to further insulate the muslim community from any poker in the fire, any culpability to motivate reform, by blaming the victims who lash out in fear and futility because their governments abandoned them).
