NLA voices support for CDC’s decision to have Constitutional Court resolve political crisis

Thammarat Thadaphrom

BANGKOK, 23 January 2016 (NNT) - The first vice president of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) believes it is a good thing that the new constitution allows the Constitutional Court to be the one solving political crisis.

NLA vice president Surachai Liengboonlertchai said he agreed with the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) to have Constitutional Court make decisions and find solutions in times of political crisis, so that there will not be another coup again in the future.

He however said the Constitutional Court should never have too much power. By having too much power, Mr Surachai meant the Constitutional Court should not have the power to make decisions or act on behalf of the legislative branch or administrative branch.

"the Constitutional Court should not have the power to make decisions or act on behalf of the legislative branch or administrative branch."

Correct - such power will remain with the military no matter whether a coup is needed or not. wai2.gif

Could it be something like this: the PAD, PDRC, or similar, create a political crisis, and the court decides to give power to an unelected government until the crisis is solved?
