BANGKOK: -- Four tourism operators in four provinces have voiced opposition to the proposed closure of Khao Yai National Park for nature rehabilitation and restoration reasoning that it will have massive impact.

The tourism operators’ reaction came as the Khao Yai-Dong Phaya Yen Conservation Network Association has officially proposed the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment to order the closure of Khao Yai National Park during the summer season, for three months, starting from March to end of May, so as to allow the nature to rehabilitate and restore.

The proposal was also submitted to the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plants Conservation on June 27.

Mrs Vajaree Pratchayanusorn, president of the Ecotourism Club, said she strongly disagree with the proposal because such proposal was not the resolution of all parties that were involved in social and environmental work on Khao Yai.

She cited a proposal to ban overnight stays by tourists on Khao Yai but still allow normal traffic on Highway 2090 is not a right solution for sustainable forest rehabilitation and restoration.

Opposing the proposals are tourism operators from Nakhon Ratchasima, Prachinburi, Nakhon Nayok and Sraburi.

So, the 'ecotourism' operators put their short term profits over the long term stability of the park AND their businesses.

That is so mind-bogglingly stupid. As someone already said, Thainess at it's best.

So do they want traffic banned as well?

What restoration? It is a national park. There would only be restoration if there had been unwarranted intrusion by people

To elaborate on my comment it would include illegal logging and deforestation for crops

in other words, we dont care if the park is destroyed as long as we are making a good profit from it, thainess to the extreme.

Actually this is the same the world over.

I can still remember the fishermen from Netherlands / France / UK protesting that they could not fish as much as they wanted as stock had to recover.

Touch someones income and no matter where they are from there will be protests.. even if the reasons to put bans in place are good.

If you call this Thainess then I think the number of Thais has just grown with a few billion.
