Huge Buddha statue caves in in Chon Buri

 

 

CHON BURI: -- A huge Buddha statue in Chon Buri which is due to be fully completed at the end of this year collapsed Monday night following heavy rains throughout the night.

 

The 24-metre high Buddha statue, named Phra Buddha Santi Apimahamongkolchai, is located at Santisook monastery in Tambon Napa, Muang district of Chon Buri,

So it was the rain's fault making it collapse like a souffle. And like a souffle there was nothing inside holding it up.

from the pics it looks like it was just a big blob of concrete without much steel reo. i wonder how much of  the 9 Mil in donations went to support someone's lifestyle rather into the construction to support the statue!

Looking at the photo even Budda is being scammed, just poor grade cheapo concrete.

Money being skimmed off into pockets yet again.

Maybe it's Lord Buddha's way of saying "stop wasting concrete and do something infinitely more useful for your fellow human beings with the donation money".

Buddha is obviously ashamed of the way Thais disrespect him by their actions .

Or maybe this is Buddha's way to say: "Stop fooling around with concrete mixtures and use more cement instead of sand in the future"

Giant Buddha sculptures are basically the antithesis of Buddha's teachings. 

But a good earner for a few.

I find the mess of discarded building materials around temples very puzzling - there seems to be no real thought given to what and when they build or knock down and the precarious siting seems a recipe for disaster in many circumstances.

The workers got paid to build the statue.

Now they'll get paid to clear away the rubble and a third pay packet to rebuild it again.

surely this is a sign from budda that he is not happy with what is going on in thailand, or maybe there are some lotto numbers hidden in the ruins. certainly dosent seem to be much re bar in there.

I know that Thai's believe that they gain great merit from making images of the Buddha.  Not sure how the merit works in this case?
