BANGKOK: -- ROBERT Bosch has upped its Asia-Pacific business focus with the allocation of 1.2 billion euro (Bt46.9 billion) worth of capital investment for the region this year.

 

Peter Tyroller, member of the German engineering and electronics giant's board of management and president for Asia-Pacific, said the Asia-Pacific region had several factors that contributed to its growth going forward, especially in Southeast Asia.

Bosch considers Thailand to be an important manufacturing location, with the country still the automotive hub of Asean, he said.

I wonder how much of the trained domestic labour will benefit from this investment? Will there be regulations to restrict automation to allow the labour market a fighting chance?

There is an ongoing partnership with German colleges working with their Thai equivalents to upgrade the courses in vocational colleges and introduce apprenticeships based on the German model. Off hand I think that was launched about 2 to 3 years ago.

You mean like all those "informed" posters who repeatedly claim that EU countries (think Germany is still member at present), and other Western "democracies" won't allow investment, and business with a Junta led country?

 

German businesses are pretty smart and unlike the Brits and Americans think much longer term akin the Japanese. I know some parts of Bosch and there successful for a good reason.
