Thank you for your reply. It goes right to the heart of what I am trying to explain to my g/f but she still as a big "bridge to cross" its called confidence. She still has this hurdle not uncommon here She is a product of the system. All my life I have been a "curiosity killed the cat" type of person.  I keep telling her age does not matter sell yourself to any prospective employer. I keep telling her after I am gone "seek and ye shall find" not that she would have to but its best to get your ducks in a row just in case in today's uncertain world. You being in business here opens a myriad of curiosity questions but I shall restrain myself. Again I appreciate your reply.

My girlfriend is job hunting at the moment. Unfortunately, she is 36 and quite rightly claims that all the job ads seem to have an age cut-off of 35. I have told her she needs to be prepared to sell herself, to show prospective employers what she can do, but she says they will not even let her through the proverbial door due to her age. They will not even call her in for an interview. Employers see the age and believe they would have to pay them more than a 25 year old.

We will look into setting up some kind of business ourselves instead.

Good Luck

Yes there is an imbedded mentality here on both sides. Employers and women looking for work. Sometimes to get a job a young women must take lunch breaks at the love motel with the boss which is wrong but a beginning to be requisite in the new age we live in plus there is a surplus of ladies and a shortage of "decent" paying jobs. I admire women here that can start a business and succeed. Truly an uphill battle. Again good luck

You didn't say where in Thailand your GF is based or what sort of salary she is looking for.

Sorry she is not looking for work she has her hands full with me. What I was trying to do is undo years of lack of education by the system here. I was and am trying to prepare her for a future without me in the picture. If she is smart she will not have to work after I am gone but one never knows. I try to tell her her pocketbook is her NBF. She has a confidence issue when it comes to the possibility of seeking work here after I am gone. Apart from the culture she is such a sweet person. Sometimes that can be a bit of a confidence downside. Just trying to balance things out.

Understood.   Well keep on building up her confidence, that will help her whether she needs a job in future or not.

I think the "Underemployment rate"  here would be of interest too. So many people supposedly working but doing practically nothing.

Yes we better get used to this world wide after AI and robotics takes over. Lets say the robots name is "Sparky" The human assistance would/could say "Hey Sparky can I top you up a litre or two. Your eyes look red"

Fluent English written and spoken is a must, age doesn't matter, prefer the 40 + OL's with no small kids, which keep then away from work.

Experienced on the job, used to deal with Farangs and to understand Farang mentality. Flexible in working hours ( doing OT against payment ).

Problem solver, not a shy pencil pusher with a Hello Kitty bag and 10 FB accounts. Yes, I am willing to pay for all this, but very hard to find in Phang Nga province.

Have one and she is a Jewel :)

Problem solver in Asia? You'll be searching for a while. I mean if its not about finding a hacked solution.

If you're all day in a hammock or snooker hall, you're also not included for obvious reasons.

Ever been to the North East?

This is why LOS will never move up the ladder Racialism, looks like many on here do not travel very far as just down the road are two countries that has suffered so much in history, have now overtaken you in the world ratings. They do not stand about taking the pi>> out of each other they get on with it and now results speak for themselves.

LOS should be equal to any European country with the investment and opportunities its had over the years, not to mention the American cash, but where is the country today languishing in the bottom of all world ratings on almost every subject.

2017 - 2018 will be a year to remember and painful as you cannot just rely on making figures up any more, lies can only support you for a short-while.

Allstars north, south, east and west they all eat, drink, walk and crap the same as you, so your equal, if you think not then you are the one with the problem

utter racial bigots do my head in

What would the unemployment rate be if you took out all the superfluous workers.  Every 7-11 is staffed with 4-5 employees, all the eyeglass stores, etc etc.  I once counted 14 sales clerks in the Central Kad Suan Kaew women's shoe department with no customers in sight.

7-11 is actually highly understaffed. I know, as my girlfriend used to work there. The staff often had to work overtime - 10 or more hour shifts as they couldn't get the staff. Hard work in a busy shop, 6 days a week and for £200 a month. Would you do it?
