Thailand mulls high speed rail link - Pattaya - Suvarnabhumi - Don Meuang

 

 

Ambitious plans to connect the eastern seaboard by high speed rail to Bangkok have been discussed for the first time this week.

 

The proposed route would link three main airports.

 

Proposals were presented by rail authorities at the Asia Hotel in Pattaya in a first public forum to offer opinions about the plans.

 

The meeting was told that initial plans suggest the railway would run all the way from Don Meuang airport to Rayong - a 260 kilometer project that is part of massive infrastructure improvements in the country's communications network.

 

The railway - whose exact route is still up for grabs - would run between Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Chachoengsao, Chonburi and Rayong.

 

There would be ten stations namely:

 

Don Meuang, Bang Seu, Makkasan, Suvarnabhumi, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Sri Racha, Pattaya, U-Tapao and Rayong.

 

The line is expected to be standard gauge 1.435 meter wide track.

 

Much would be elevated but there would also be tunnels.

 

Budget at present is set at 28 billion baht.

 

At the Asia hotel officials from the government and private sector, business leaders and local representatives were all given a chance to offer insights into the project and propose details, said Pattaya News.

that shouldn't be too hard then, there's already right of way between DMK and Makkasan on to Swampy, and then follow SRT to Rayong.

Mulling is often quoted as some sort of vague action on the part of the military which really amounts to "we don't really know what we are doing".

How they mull their way out of the economic catastrophe that awaits them is something else. Pity help Thailand.

Time was invented by the almighty on 22 May 2014, so this is the first time it has been discussed

Why not have some high speed direct lines between all the bar sois in Pattaya, BKK, Phuket and Isaan?

So farangs can take trains to and from bars fast and when they've found love and ready to marry they take the train from the bar to Isaan.

Maybe even have an express route from Suvarnabhumi to Isaan with go-go-train.

Glad to see that the investment project model is complete. I can see Don Muang in the top-left corner, as well as Chachoengsao on the top-right... But which one is Pattaya?

Some positive planning by the government but of coarse Cadbury will never be happy.

It seems it doesn't matter what Thailand does or plans for economic development you just like to whinge.

I'd hate to live every day like that ....  i'd move at the first chance.

Would it not make sense, in advance of the dual-track standard-gauge 250kph line proposed in the OP, to try running a diesel-Sprinter every few hours up-and-down the existing meter-gauge line from Sattahip to Pattaya to Bangkok-past-Swampy to Don Muang ? 

 

They might find that there is not actually sufficient demand, or even that a slower train is all that's required, and save the capital-cost of this project, to be applied instead to other potential-investments ?

 

But then there would be fewer brown-enve  ...  Oh, I see the problem, with this.

In spite of all the nay sayers, this is correct. It is the first time this week it has been discussed.

 

Now if the punctuation was different .. ie ...

A tunnel will definitely be proposed for Swampy. I am looking forward to using the high speed rail. Wish the party in power would build a high speed rail in the States. hahahaha

Assuming it stops at all the places mentioned it isn't very likely to be high speed

Creating a second rail system in a country will always result in diminishing the existing lines in favour of the new lines.

Which means a huge loss of you investment.

It would be much better to upgrade the existing system, rolling stock and routes.

Another option would be to connect the three airports including the existing airport link.

Seen the route, planned stops and distances, 160 km/h is quite enough.

A speed obtainable on the existing metre gauge rail lines.

I would pay good money to watch a train go at 160kmh along the existing tracks in Pattaya.

Why a high speed train? Looking at the route, surely extensions of the existing Airport Rail Link would work?

Exackery!!!  And including the major transport hub of Bang Sue for easy transfer to skytrain, subway, another train, bus or motorway.  And standard gauge as well, no less to Pattaya U-Tapau etc!!!!!    Now they are cooking with gas!  I am almost speechless in my amazement!!!!!!!!! (Well almost.)     See what you can come up with after a proper planning session instead of just shooting one's mouth off to some reporter over the phone without even thinking about what you are saying.   Outstanding.
