Some hotels won't let you check in with just Thai driver license now, 'policy is for passport'
What exactly is required of them in order to report T.M. 30? the passport number on driving license might not be current is understandable
for hotels that is this strict about reporting I doubt pink ID card would be acceptable too, it's not like they can put you down as a Thai person checking in

Don’t worry Cha-am is still nice, still not many foreign tourists, but it looks that many will return in January and February, lesser Thai tourist because the high cost of living, but still very busy in the weekends.
There was just a busy festival on the beach for 9 days, 5-6 November a Harley Davidson festival, some shops and restaurants closed down, but nor many

In the last two weeks two dog attacks that I know of in Chaam. One lady from Belgium was very badly bitten by 3 dogs in a resort in Chaam , her leg was completely open, first to Chaam hospital , but later she had to go to Bangkok hospital in Hua Hin. A man from Holland was bitten by a dog in soi 5 on the beach, 10 days ago, he could not stand on his leg anymore, and had terrible pain, also to Bangkok hospital, he went back to Holland 1 week ago, and had a operation on his leg, and is still in the hospital

It has always been Neil's Tavern and it was originally located in Siam Square (which is the only location I have eaten at) on a Soi behind the 3 movie theaters. It moved to Soi Rum Rudee in the 70's and had since opened a branch on Asoke which is currently closed.
When I came to Thailand in 1978 Neil's Tavern was the place to be for the best steak, and yes it was or in Siam Square or in Rum Rudee

There is not much in Petchaburi, and there is als not much in Chao Samran, so you have to go a little bit more south, sofitel hotel is about 25 km south, 7-8 km before Cha-am, in Cha-am there are many more good hotels

Thx for all the replies guys. I understand that when an OP says it is a friend who wants to know, we assume it is the poster who is the real one with the problem, but in this case it really is a friend and when I told him its risky, he left it with me, gave me 100$ and asked me to mail it to him. So now my question isn't about taking it in the baggage, it's about mailing it. Lol

Disagree. I live and work here, and would not want to live anywhere elseThailand is only ideal for a holiday, or for older people who wish to relax whilst they enjoy their retirement.
100% correct.
I've lived in LOS on and off for years, but enjoy it less living there than when I visited on holiday.
To really enjoy retirement would take much more money than I have. I'd love to live on the beach, but can't afford that.
I do agree with you, I live and before worked here, and also would not to live anywhere else.

I am living here for more then 26 years, trafel often, but in 26 years no police or other official have ever asked me for a ID or passport
hotels insisting on passport at checkin (for TM30?)
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
