  1. I have tried.. and failed.

Because my Citibank Platinum card was co-marketed with Thai Airways ROP so it was not possible.

Looks like I have to continue to use K-Bank Wisdom card instead.

I didnt realize they made a distinction between Citibank cards in Thailand...I have a Citibank "Platinum Select" visa card (co-branded with Paragon, Emporium and the Mall)...worked like a charm....counter lady asked how may fast track passes I wanted....(next time I'll get 10 and use them as stocking stuffer gifts)

Hope you did not go for the 10; I havea couple of them in stock and was rejected recently as they changed the design...

Thank you AOT, nice gesture to change the conditions after you sold your vouchers...

  2. Just a short post for anyone contemplating whether to go for PCX or Nuovo:

When I made my (first) decision, I went for the Nuovo simply because it was a lot cheaper and I was able to get it at list price in Pattaya... Unfortunately, I did not rent both scooters before to try them in practice - big mistake...

So, we got the Nuovo and it drove okay but wasn't exciting at all. After a 2 week holiday out of LOS, we weren't able to get the Yamaha run. The dealer came and had to remove and clean the carburetor. Some weeks later, again we didn't use it for about 2 weeks and same issue; dealer had to come...

That made me remember all the problems of carburetor models I used to have in earlier times back home.

Finally, we decided to change the Nuovo into the PCX. The dealer did a trade-in but of course, the Yamaha was 2nd hand now (although it just had about 400km). After all, we paid about 30,000 more compared to going for the PCX in the first place. But even so, we are absolutely happy with the PCX. It's a great scooter and is much better to handle than the Nuovo. It consumes only 2.2 l (Yamaha took about double) and we never had any issues in getting it started.

If you are unsure which scooter is the right one, don't make our mistake in thinking, somehow they will all be similar. There are so many places where you can rent scooters for little money and it will save you thousands of THB if you can avoid to make the wrong decision.

    Good luck

  3. Does anyone know / have actually tried a hotel around Swampy which offers Park, Sleep & Fly? As the airport parking doesn't have any longterm rates, it's getting quite expensive parking there for two weeks or longer...

Longterm-parking lot seems quite inconvenient and is not an option.

  4. I'm star alliance gold with LH but now as I live in LOS I was always contemplating whether or not I should rather become ROP member:

    - I would start again with no status

    - business in ROP only gets you 1.25 bonus vs. 2.0 on LH

+ I finally might get an upgrade from time to time (on LH I was upgraded about 20% of my flights) but never got one on my 50 TG flights in the last two years

+ My credit card rewards points would finally make sense (Citibank & UOB) by transferring them into ROP miles

Does anyone know if I could still use my LH Gold card for the checkin, lounge & preboarding priviledge despite using a non-status ROP membership for mileage accrual an the same flight? Asked ROP customer service two times but got no reply...

    Cheers

  5. First time I tried it worked well, although it takes about a minute for paperwork.

Second time my departure was quite early, so the booth was not set up yet.

Next time I'll try if I can get multiple vouchers so I don't have to rely on their opening times.

By the way, it costs 1000 reward points, but there isn't much you can do with these points anyway, is it?

Have a UOB card as well, they also supply Fasttrack vouchers but you have to order them and they cost 1500 points.

    Cheers

  6. The "list" price for a new PCX in Pattaya is B72,000, but fairly easy negotiation can get the price down to B69,000 (as of 2 weeks ago). The final line I suspect, if you really press, is B68,500. That includes all colors, including the popular candy apple red. I have one (not red, unfortunately), and it is an absolutely superb little bike. If you're a "bag man" with no other transportation, it may not be for you (gotta have those hooks ya know....). But for anyone that appreciates a smooth, agile and classy ride, it is as good as you can get.

    Hi,

Which Honda dealer in Pattaya actually sells it to "listprice"?

Was at the big one on Threprasit but they were asking 77,000, no extras and besides not very interested in doing business...

  7. Hi guys,

this is a warning to anyone considering to order the FiveFingers in Sinpapore:

We have ordered them about 4 weeks ago and payed through our Paypal-account. The Singapore dealer Innovatez is very helpul and shipped already the very next day - unfortunately through Fedex...

After 10 days with the shoes already in Bangkok, status on Fedex was still "customs delay", so we've complained with Fedex. In the afternoon of that very day, they have sent us the invoice for customs, tax and Fedex fees which was in total 90 % of the order value!!!

We requested Fedex then to inform us why the invoice can be that high and it turned out, that they've calculated customs and other fees on basis US$ whereas the invoice was - of course - in Singapore Dollars.

Fedex promised then to send an updated invoice but nothing happened for another two weeks.

We now try with Innovatez that they call the shoes back to Singapore.

So, safe yourself the trouble: I can only highly recommend to rather book a cheap flight to Singapore and by the shoes there!

As I wrote, it's not the fault of Innovatez, they are really helpful - but with Fedex we feel like in the hand of criminals and there is nothig you can do.
