  1. Just a quick update.subbmitted settlement visa on Thursday 23rd feb and my wife just received a call from the embassy asking a few questions. Are visas normaly issued fairly soon after the phone calls or am I getting my hopes up too soon?

What kind of questions was your wife asked, if you don't mind me asking?

They asked who was looking after her daughter whilst she was in the uk. Who chose her current school. Was the dad for the daughter still around. My wife already has llr in the uk so ours is a visa for my step daughter

  2. I recently applied for flr for my wife whilst in the uk on a family visit visa. I'd recommend being completely honest in the letter and give a clear outline of your intentions whilst in the uk. Also stress that your partner has reason to return to thailand as I know many visas are refused because they don't a strong case to suggest they will return. Hope this helps

  3. hi all,

can anyone recommend a reliable and trustworthy visa agent to take our step daughter and her nan to the vfs centre in thailand?

i will need to send them the money for the settlement visa as we cannot trust my mother in law with such a large amount of money. i do not need the application to be prepared for me, its simply an hour or 2 of there time to escort them to the vfs centre....

    thank you

  4. Like TVE, I am confused as to which type of visa your wife has; an initial settlement visa as a spouse or partner is valid for 27 months and FLR is valid for 24 months. I don't know of a "3 years limited leave to remain uk visa."

Whatever type of visa or leave to remain your wife has, her daughter, if successful, will be given the same.

First step is for you to read Children of British citizens and settled people and SET07 - Children, paying particular attention to SET7.8 What is sole responsibility?

she has been granted a 3 year limited leave to remain visa[residence permit] under discretionary circumstances as she transfered over from a family visit visa.

    hope this helps.....

  5. i have been advised by my friend from who works at immigration to apply for an flr o before my wifes visa runs out in august...this seems a little odd as on the ukba website it clearly states the maximum stay is 6 months from 1 year. im unsure of taking this advice is its likely the flr will be refused.

will she be classed as an overstay if we do apply for the flr before her visit visa runs out?

we have every intention of her going back to thailand and applying for a spouse visa in june when she is 21.im simply looking for possible ways for her and the baby to stay with me in england for a few months after the birth as i cant really afford to go to thailand and take time off work.

also do we have to wait 6 months to re apply from the date she left england or the date her visa expires?

    thanks darryl

  6. its people like these two that make it difficult for genuine people to get visas!

they come on a tourist visa when all the time they have no intention to leave...!

go back to thailand and do it properly, like everyone else has to do!

wait a minute before you start judging me....dont you dare say that me and my family are not genuine,we intended to have my wife fly back to thailand to have the baby but due to my current financial predicament it will be near on impossible to pay for flights for my wife and a return flight to the uk for me.also taking time off from work will cost me alot of money....plus i really dont want to be seperated from my wife and new born baby for such along time.

think before you judge people so harshly...this is my first child and im simply looking for solutions to keep my family together....

  7. hi all, me and my wife are in england and she is on a multi entry tourist visa that runs out on the 16th august 2011.she will not be 21 until june 2012 so i cannot apply for a spouse visa. she is 16 weeks pregnant with our baby and need some advice on what rights she has to stay in england with the baby.so....

if she has the baby in thailand can she then return to england with the baby?

if she has the baby in england will she be sent back to thailand after shes given birth?

can she stay in england for more than 6 months out of the year?

    thanks darryl

  8. hi all,

my wife will be 21 in june 2012 and i wondering if i can apply for a settlement visa say 3 months before she actually is 21 and ask for the travel date to start after her birthday.

my baby will be 7-8 months old by then and the sooner they can join me in england the better....

    thank you

    darryl

  9. The key question is whether you mention her pregnancy at all.

If you chose to, then you could well add to your sponsors letter that you have deliberately asked for a visa of certain duration in order that your gf will return to Thailand before her third trimester and ultimately give birth in Thailand. Will you be travelling back with her for the birth? Be sure to include this detail to, and even a short description of your plans for the event e.g. travel dates, where you will stay, how long you will stay, future plans for you, the gf and child, what hospital is she booked into, how much have you paid etc.

ill be travelling a month after her to save a bit more money before the baby comes.(also chelsea are playing thailand in bangkok so i have to come back]lol......but seriously, ill be back 3-4 weeks before the babys due.....ill be taking your advice and detailing this all in the sponsors letter

    thank you

i have considered both options and it was a hard call but i think mentioning the baby will be 4 the best. weve got a doctors letter stating she will have to return to thailand to have the baby and also reccomends she returns the middle of june for it to be safe to fly whilst pregnant. good idea about giving the name of the hospital....i hope all thses little things will be taken into consideration

    thanks for the help
