  1. Please reread my first post. Thats whats happening now. As I predicted. The incomming flood was slowed and built up. Now as the tide goes back the downflow towards the sea will speed up and then meet the deichs. Then lets guess.¿

I found a good, probable quite updated flood map. It’s all in Thai, but it shouldn’t be difficult to imagine what is water.

    Se: http://203.150.230.27/FloodMap/index.html?search=&locate=&xmin=11105110.04837066&ymin=1518928.8106264025&xmax=11303081.95162934&ymax=1639852.1893735975

You can zoom yourself around the map.

  2. Sawasdee Krap,

I am 33, male, double-national, Swiss+French. I am in bangkok as a tourist, no job, visa on arrival.

I want to know if it is possible to circumvent the new visa run rules.

Is it possible for double-nationals to present the first passport for the first 90days, and then switch and show the second passport.

That way, could it be possible to stay in thailand forever doing the visa run every months ?

In other words, do they have our identity in their computer or do they only check the details in the passport ?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

My guess is that you can. As I understand, they just punch in your name, nationality and passport number. It is not uncommon that there is more than one person in the world with the same name, so I don’t see why that should be a problem.

  3. I have concrete plans of buying a condo, but may have to rethink my decision.

YOU SEE I MADE A CALL TO MRS Kleddao Sungnet OF BANK OF THAILAND (BOT) 11 AM LAST MORNING (E-mail: [email protected] Tel: +66 (0) 2356 7345). SHE SAID THE Reserve Requirement on Short-Term Capital Inflows DOES ALSO APPLY FOR FUTURE FOREIGN CONDOMINIUMS BUYERS, AND THAT THEREFORE THERE WILL ALSO BE A 1 YEAR (NON-INTEREST RATE) 30% HOLD ON FOREIGN CURRENCIES BROUGHT INTO THAILAND FOR THIS PURPOSE.

I don't know what to do. :o I have a deal with the Thai seller, but the BOT decides to "rip me off" by "taking" 30% of my money and borrowing it for a year at the interest rate they like - 0-zero percent.

    :

other than pad thai and easy women, why would i want to move here?

Foreign house buyer affected by baht measure

Impacts of the Bank of Thailand's austere capital control measure spreads beyond the stock market, as an expatriate sees a problem in settling a house purchase deal scheduled Wednesday.

The expat who contacted The Nation but asked not to be named transferred 150,000 euro from a bank in Hong Kong to Kasikornbank Tuesday, without knowing of the measure.

He was shocked to know that 30 per cent of his money would be parked with Kasikornbank once he converted the foreign currency into Thai baht.

"Only if the central bank averts the policy, would I have enough money to sign the contract. If this policy remains, I would need 30 per cent more for the house that I have reserved," he said.

  4. the US?

    Yes... the US !

    totster :o

As for Scandinavian pensioners, apart from girlie bars etc, I know people that prefer Hua Hin area because of the climate. On this particular stretch of land there are 3 monsoon belts meting, so no matter what time of the year you come, it is OK to be there. They get rain, but never as much as deep south and far north.

India and Malaysia may also have their charm and attractions for foreigners, but as far as it comes to living costs, I got the general impression that Thailand is cheaper.

  5. It’s a 16 year old unit. I already have one small unit in the complex (565 units in all), which I love and don’t have any intentions of selling at all. I have been coming to the specific holiday place for years, always ending up in a different hotel. That is before I bought that small unit (32 square m.). THE REASON FOR ME ASKING THE QUESTION IS THAT I HAVE REPEATATLY HAD REQUESTS FROM FAMILIY AND FRIENDS IF THEY COULD STAY WITH ME. So the whole point is that I am thinking about buying another unit or two which gives me more space to receive visitors. At a later stage I may sell depending on if family and friends still want to stay in these units or not as years go by.

  6. No Thai atheletes competing, so not interest?

    How parochial. :o

There is one Thai competing, discussed in this thread.

    Maestro

I have now managed to see some of the events through TVkoo.com. This is a Chinese program that broadcasts olympic via CCTV5 and Tv1 (Nrk1 - which is a Norwegian channel). It works ok, but due to my relative slow download speed ( about 250 k bit), it stops up to buffer.

  7. For those of us that are a little bit interested in watching some of the events in Turin, I found it hard to find where to look. I have a 512 TOT broadband connection and was hoping to have a look at of some of the action from the Winter Olympics in Italy via the net. I normally have access to some of the European national tv channels through passwords and usernames, which have sending rights for the Games there. The problem is that they “see” that my ip address (TOT address) is from outside Europe, and that they therefore cannot send me any live streaming, or videos. According to agreements, they cannot broadcast outside there domain. My question is therefore; are there any tv stations/webpages that send to Thailand?
