  1. I wonder if you will have to pay 7/11 to report/help with a crime, the same as the police ?

Or maybe anyone can just pay 7/11 off, the same as the police ?!!

Or maybe when a mugging/assault is in progress the staff will just join in because its a ting tong farang !!

Good luck to them but I can only see it being another extension of an already corrupt poor system run by ignorance.

I would of thought there are much better ways of improving the system.................like maybe the police actually policing.

  2. Thanks for that link.

The story doesn't exactly fill me with confidence regarding the payment system but i have little choice as my card is a debit.

I would be interested though if anyone can confirm or not whether you can pay everything at BKK but send the application to HKG ?

In that linked thread the OP reported (#5) that the UK Embassy in Bangkok no longer accept payments for passport renewals, but made an exception in his case as there was a problem with the bankers draft already in Hong Kong.

Looks like you need to try the bankers draft method, but make sure that the all printing is in the right boxes!

Thanks for that, I must of missed that part.

yes, looks like i need to bite the bullet and go with the bankers draft.

    thanks

  3. The direct answer is that it is not unlimited and is at the discretion of Immigration. After 3 or 4 you are likely to be asked about working illegally and from that point on; if you can not provide a reasonable explanation, you run the risk of refusal or examination of the required 10,000 baht on your person for such entry.

Your answer is a bit confusing. Are you saying that it is not unlimited because they will ask you questions ??? Them asking questions is not them refusing you, its just checking !! Of course in any situation it is always down to the officer but this doesn't mean there is a limit.

The question here is whether there is an official limit to the amount. Is there and if so where is it stated ? Obviously the person concerned is not going to say 'oh yes I am working' or 'no I don't have money', I think it is a given that people will say the right things.

Anyway, as always it may not be consistent but I can give the OP direct experience as from July until October I was on exempt visa runs due to several problems. On my last run I was on 4 land-border runs and 2 flights within a 4 month period, no questions, no problems.

I appreciate I may of been lucky and a proper visa is always the best but as a temporary measure unless you mess up in a schoolboy error and/or do something wrong I cant see what problems you would have.

You might want to read Simon43 report in above thread (although Phuket rather than Pattaya).

    Thanks for that link.

  5. Old news, has always happened and will always happen.

Nothing can ever be done about it because there will always be new tourists who don't know any better. full proof scam that will always work backed up and endorsed by the police !!

I hardly ever go to the beach but whenever I do I always see this happening at some point at different levels.

I disagree. Something will eventually be done about this but it will get a lot worse before it gets better.

Some good international new coverage like the incident in Phuket would help a lot.

    I hope you are right.

  6. Officers obtained Mr. Marshall's statement before sending him to the Pattaya Memorial Hospital for treatment. An investigation will commence in an attempt to apprehend the 5 offenders.

Yea, right. Those 5 punks are in the same place every day ripping people off.

It's a shame Thai Visa doesn't grow a set of balls and allow us to name and shame people like this. They wont hesitate to post images and stories of an "accused" foreigner or Thai for allegedly doing something wrong, but we are not allowed to do the same even if it is to save fellow foreigners (or Thais) from pain or grief. These jet ski scammers need to be exposed EVERYWHERE we can expose them.

Well said, but even exposing them wont change anything because the whole scam./business is reliant on new tourists. New tourists are not going to know before and/or when they are here. As i say it is a full proof scam that will always work.......UNLESS, GOD FORBID, THE POLICE ACTUALLY DID THEIR JOB !!

  7. Hi all,

Firstly apologises to the administrators if this post is in the wrong place but was not sure where to put. Its passport related but also regarding banking.

I am renewing my British passport at the Embassy in Hong Kong and in the section regarding payment they say you can either send a 'credit card authorisation form' or a bankers draft. Now I wont try the credit card as all I have is a Bangkok Bank visa/debit card and I have heard stories about that not being accepted so I am going to try the bankers draft.

So my question to anyone is has anyone done this recently and if so which bank did you use ? I only ask as on the website they mention that you have to make sure 'Standard Chartered' in Hong Kong accepts the bankers draft from the bank you are using.

Also how easy was it and the charge (if any) ?

Before I go running around the banks in Pattaya and battling with the usual language barrier, inconsistent rules and the famous 'cannot' and 'not have' lines etc etc I thought I would see if anyone here has any experience ?

Thanks for any advice in advance.

  9. There are dozens of threads on this already.........do a search on KL and you will know all you need to know.

thanks but i was referring to a recent experience as i know things change. also one of my questions was, is the single entry still free. this could of changed since the last post on this subject.

please, anyone who wishes to reply with a direct answer to my direct questions only !!! any useful answers appreciated

Tourist visa's are still free, until March 2011.

Most consulates will only issue a single entry tourist visa for free, however Vientianne, Laos will issue a double entry tourist visa for free. Most apply there for that reason.

Suspect KL will only issue single entry.

Thanks very much for that info. Loas sounds good then. I might try that.

    Thanks again

  11. There is no limit, although immigration might ask what you are doing in Thailand to make sure you are not illegally working.

Immigration very rarely checks if you have a return ticket, they leave it up to the airline. in Asia a lot of airlines don't check, especially the price fighters.

Mario, has that changed recently ? Does the 90 day with 180 rule still apply ? or is that now finished because they made border runs only 15 days stay ?

    thanks
