I have been informed by Lt. Co. Wanadorn, Chief of Civic Affairs at Ubon RTAFB that a young friend of his, the nephew of a base officer, is in Saphasit Hospital with cancer and is in need of A+ blood.  If there is any one that would like to donate blood, please call 087 698 1277.   They will tell you where to go to donate blood.  If I get more information I will post it.

American Legion Post TH01

Two friend of mine were scheduled to depart Ubon for Swampy at 12:55pm yesterday.  Because of high winds, as stated by Thai Smile, they did not depart until after 7pm.  I was at the airport to see them off and did not think the winds were that strong.

Anyone know when Spago new location will open?  I call the old number and got the restaurant across from the old Home Mart.  Their English wasn't good and couldn't give me an answer..

The U.S Embassy in BKK has issued the following notice.

In the evening of August 11, two bombs exploded in a Hua Hin market area; a third bomb exploded near the Hua Hin clock tower in the morning of August 12.  Thai local law enforcement and media are reporting at least one death of a Thai woman and approximately 20 injured, including foreign nationals.  Other, smaller explosions also have been reported in Phuket, Trang, and Surat Thani, and the situation is developing with reports of additional possible explosions and suspicious fires elsewhere in southern Thailand.  Thai officials have identified no U.S. citizens among the injured victims.  The U.S. embassy is in regular contact with local authorities to determine if any U.S. citizens have been affected. 

Royal Thai Police have indicated that the immediate area of the incidents will remain closed for further investigation.  Further, the law enforcement presence in the greater Hua Hin area is expected to be enhanced until further notice.  Travelers to the area should avoid the affected areas, review your personal security plans; remain aware of your surroundings, including local events; and monitor local news stations for updates. Maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security and follow instructions of local authorities.

We strongly recommend that U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Thailand enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at www.Travel.State.Gov.  STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. embassy or nearest U.S. consulate to contact you in an emergency.  If you don’t have Internet access, enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.

Read this post about a new hospital, Sunpasitinter Hospital, here in Ubon. As a US Embassy Warden Vol. and Commander of the local American Legion Post, TH01, here in Ubon I felt I should pay a visit to Sunpasitinter and view it for myself, in case I'm asked about it. My wife and I were greeted in the lobby by Khun Pranom, from the information desk. After informing her who I was and the reason for our visit, she graciously gave us a guided tour of the facility. We were shown the rooms that are available to patients. All rooms are private, On the floor we were shown, there was a Super VIP room,THB3900. A two room suite, with a large bed area with seating for guests and a separate room which had a dining table for 4, a microwave and additional seating. The Bathroom/WC was very large. A VIP room, THB2900. Which was a single room, with seating for guests, a large bathroom/WC and a dining table with place for four and a microwave. 6 or 8 deluxe rooms,THB1900. Each deluxe room had seating for guests and a microwave. All rooms have small refrigerators. In the lobby there is the Information/Registration desk,Cashier, Pharmacy, Xray dept, consultation room. The Out Patient Department, OPD is also adjourning the lobby down the hallway to the right as you enter. The Xray department can do everything except MRI's. They contract with UbonRak and Sappsit government hospitals for MRI's. The ICU has 8 open ward beds with curtains and 2 private rooms. ICU is not fully operational as they are awaiting the arrival of more equipment. Parking is plentiful with a 4 story parking garage next to the hospital.

The hospital opened 6 months ago by a well known Plastic Surgeon in Thailand. It is very clean and neat. Staff was plentiful. English is also used on signage throughout the hospital. This is the best I can do at present. Hopefully I will be able to get information on insurances and their ability to file claims with the different insurance companies.

Just some information for everyone. Wednesday the 28th I mailed 2 letters to Thai Immigration. One to the commissioner of Immigration in Bangkok and the other to the Immigration Division 4 Commander in Nakorn Ratchasima, requesting that they consider the re-opening of a immigration office in Ubon. The added distance would put a burden on the many ex-pat's that live in the Northern part of the province. I will wait and see what kind, if any, of a response I will receive. My fingers are crossed.

I went to Phibun last week to comply with their 24 hour return notice. My wife accompanied me and

spoke with one of the immigration officers there. He/She stated their displeasure with the move. Someof them live in the northern part of Ubon province and will have to drive farther to work. They alsostated that if a letter with as many signatures as possible was sent to the Commissioner of Immigration requesting that he consider a satalite office at the Ubon International Airport might open their

eyes to the need for an immigration office here in northern Ubon province. So, I am in the process

of drafting a letter and signature pages to be sent to him. As soon as I have it finished I

will post here where I will be and if anybody wants to sign their name they will know where to do it. This is for all Expat's of all nationalities. With a little help we will be able to get quiet a few

signatures that might make a difference.

Excuse me, but you have it backwards. The American Legion is the first and only Legion. If your are referring to the British Legion, it was formed on May 15, 1921. The American Legion was chartered by the Congress of the United States on September 16, 1919. We are not attaching ourselves to the American Legion. We have applied to the National Headquarters for a charter here in Thailand. So, lets get together and work along side each other. I would very much like to meet the head of the British Legion here in Issan. We would like to participate in the Rememberance Day Observance and other organizational functions. If you have this information, please pass it along.

Storekeeper, I have just started a Facebook page. The one ubonjoe referred you to is a group and you must have a account on Facebook. The page I have just started is a page and does not require membership in Facebook. It is new and needs more work but will be updated with more information soon. Is there going to be a meeting in August?

There will also be a Google "Hangouts" session. JC, the Adjutant, will host it and will send out a invitation through your email address with a link to join. We are doing this because many of our members are not able to attend the meetings in person. We tried it at the last meeting and worked fairly well but still had some glitches that need to be worked out. The meeting starts at 10 am on the 10th of Aug., so if you can, keep a eye out for a mail from JC with the link about 30 minutes before the start of the meeting.
