  1. Hello expats.

I am wondering about the new rules in regards of the one year Visa-O. It seems to me there is still a lot of confusions as so many times here in Phuket immigration.

Someone I know from Australia just did the extension for another year and he did not had a health Insurance. Apparently they made him pay 30'000thb. to make it go away (basically making a health insurance in the office was my thought but don't know if this is true).

It says ( where to find this information is unknown to me) that the new Visas-O holders must have a health insurance covered 400'000 Thb. as a minimum coverage. Some say all expats must have an health insurance and some others say no, only if you arrive as a first time applicant to the visa -0. Another info I hear yesterday that some European citizens like Germany, Switzerland and Austria do not ned a health insurance, if they already have one and need to extend for another year.

I am really confused what is true and would be happy if the immigration or someone who really knows, can shed some light into this and post this on the Thai immigration website.

  2. Dear Alfredo,

It was the same with me and not the first time...and will not be the last time.

I'm married and I show all the papers,

the only paper i did not think of was the plain ticket back to BKK but was able to printed out..... if this very unfriendly woman let me do it.

It would take 15 minutes for me to print a copy from the internet shop and go back again....No no, even there still 12 people waiting in line she would refuse me come back in line for the application.

Very frustrating and once again waste of peoples money and time not mention the unfriendly way they treat people.

And this is the case in many embassies!!!

I feel sorry for you and hope you will find a way to get your visa.

    Best regards

    Joe

  3. Hello Dan,

I did this just 2 years ago and strait forward it worked for us.

First I had to become a resident (I'm Swiss) and provide the spanish embassy in BKK with a permanent address here in spain.

second I needed a NIE number also provided to the embassy

Further:Bank account, proof of a steady income etc.

    For my wife:

Tabien ban, marriage certification, police record, travel insurance and a return flight.

She got a 3 month tourist visa and once in spain we applied for a "residencia" valid 5 years.

Dan I wish you good luck and hope it works out for you as I'm also tired of this constant embassy B..s... wasting our time and money

    Joe

  5. Hi all,

I'm new to this site even I have been following this site for a wile.

Recently I returned back to Thailand with a 1 month visa and tried to renew my visa for 2 months, a married visa in Pattaya(Jomtien) and this is also the reason why I join here because i know I'm not alone with this ongoing hassle.

Spending about 2 hours of waiting we finally got a female officer where I have been ignored and the officer not even talked to me but instead to my wife... The result on the officers comment , I should get to Phuket to get my married visalaugh.gif Funny I should get one easy, but not in Jomtien. We went up to Korat and did the papers just in about a half hour. I am really happy to travel all of thailand to get this visamad.gif

I hope that the authorities come to a equal solution with this visa crap and I'm certain this will be in a blue moon!biggrin.gif

My experience just tells me again speaking to the right people helps a lot of hassles.

I think next time i try to get a visa from the country which I'm in.
