Update.
8am Wife went to local Amphoe (Couldn't stop her after she read Mr Smithy's post).
8.30 Open and first in line.
8.35 Has Kor Ror 2 in duplicate.
9.00 Took cat for annual jabs
10.30 Hat Immigration. Passport demanded on entrance steps.
First Punt. "Why you here you have 90 days left" Eh NO. "your looking at last years stamp"
Second Punt "He on overstay" to my wife. Eh NO.
Third Punt "You show me stamp" handing back passport to wife, I'm forgotten.
At that point given number 87 and told to wait in tent on roadway (overflowing, no seats, noted 2 other farangs). Wife objected and told her we only want to know which visa available.
11am Two very young clerks came to see us in our tent with standing room only. First offer was 7 days extension at B 1760 or thereabouts. Second offer on questioning was 30 days with Embassy letter. Sorry Ubonjoe, I did ask about 60 days visit wife with no original marriage certificate. No answers!!!
12 noon Hat Yai Airport to cancel Sundays flights to BKK. Have been trying for 3 days on the phone.
12.30 Lunch with wife at deserted airport on separate tables.
1.pm Panic drive by our driver to panic buy 60 days of wine before 2pm at Songkhla Tesco.
MADE IT!!!!

Thanks Ubonjoe.
Our marriage must be registered at the local Amphoe, how else is her ID card been changed to her married name. My wife was never even asked for her ID on this weeks visit. Her name change would have been done Pre-computer days so that might be another story.
I am going to Hat Yai immigration this morning to see them. They will have a field day with me as the IO in BKK did not return The TM6. If busy I will not even enter. At 82 years I do not care if I never return to this Thailand.

Thank you for that Mr Smithy. My wife must have encountered a Miss Stupid at the desk who didn't know what a Kor Ror 2 is. Back there tomorrow.

In days of Old no English document was accepted in Thailand unless officially translated.
Married in UK. Translated English to Thai. I do not travel to Thailand with my original UK marriage license. I am here on a single entry O based on Uk Pension. I did not anticipate requiring an extension but my return flight is cancelled. My wife's blue book, Thai ID card and Thai passport are all in her married name and obtained/registered at the local Amphur. Where else in the world do you have to prove you are not divorced when
she is standing next to you! The local Amphur would only know if we where divorced if one of us reported to them.
-
This week my wife and I went to our local Amphur in Singha Nakhon for a Kor Ror 2 in anticipation of Hat Yai Immigration requiring it for a sixty day extension. They refused because I did not have our original marriage certificate (1980). They would not accept copy translated into Thai and legalised at the British Embassy and Thai government office in 2000. What chance at Hat Yai Immigration tomorrow? My guess NONE!

In Thailand it's around 500 baht & a wai !!
Last year my wife received a phone call from her sister saying her only son had been in a an accident and he had knocked two people off a motor bike. One person had a broken leg and the police wanted Bt 200,000 to prevent him going to jail and being dismissed from the army.
It transpired that he had fled the scene but had been caught on CCTV.
His excuse was being in the army and injuring a Muslim in the deep south he felt endangered although he was not in uniform. He repaired his car within 24 hours of the accident. The injured persons family demanded Bt 400,000 as compensation but the police said Bt200,000. So it was Bt200,000 we paid. The Bt200,000 was handed over family to family at the police station to the highly delighted victims family.
Months later when we arrived in Thailand the wife's nephew presented us with a New Year gift box as a thankyou for keeping him out of prison. The wife's sister kindly reminded my wife the gift box cost Bt400. At no time has any mention of any part of the Bt200,000 been mentioned.
This is Thailand.

? GRUMPY OLD MAN AT 50. Wait until you are 80.
In general in the UK you start to be ignored/overlooked at 70 and it gets progressively worse.
In Thailand I have been overlooked /ignored since the age of 40 when I married my Thai wife.

Why were you presenting it?
It is possible the confusion was caused because a joint account is not acceptable if being used to validate a retirement extension application.
Presented to support marriage extension (first application (now aborted} after 39 years of marriage which in itself seemed to throw the IO.

Beware.
I presented a joint account with wife to a Hat Yai IO recently. The balance was way above any requirement but it caused major confusion.
Either the had not seen a joint farang/Thai wife joint account before. OR could not accept 50/50 split. In their minds possibly 90/ 10 split in favour of Thai wife.

Thankyou Ubonjoe and Grimmjow. Situation crystal clear. A few Thai relatives down the line will be a bit miffed.

Having just red a new thread but not wishing to hijack that thread it has made me think there might be a change in status of children in a mixed Thai marriage.
My wife is Thai and our two girls were born in the UK in 1981 and 1984. At that time the London Thai Embassy's position was English father/ child born in UK =English-no Dual Nationality.
We have a house in Thailand (rebuild value 7,000,000 Baht) which I have always considered lost to our children (not being Thai). A couple of years ago my wife made a Thai will leaving the house to our 2 daughters but the solicitor stated they would have to sell within 6 months.
My question- Is anyone aware of retrospective Thai legislation recognizing 38/34 year olds as Thai. The solicitor consulted gave us the impression he didn't want to get involved.
Thankyou

Many years visiting Thailand on a ME O Visa and never done a TM30.
Last November I came on a Single Entry O Visa by mistake. Anticipating dealings with an Immigration Office for an extension my wife And I did a TM30 report at SONGKHLA City IO. without problem. They referred us to HAT YAI IO to apply for an extension Retirement/ Marriage. We went to HAT YAI IO two days later and appeared bemused/surprised we already had a TM30. On interview with the IO they recommended no Marriage/Retirement visa but 60 day Tourist visa from Penang which they would extend for 30 days to cover this visit. The I O mentioned specifically to obtain a new TM30 on retuning to Thailand to facilitate my 30 day extension.
On returning from Penang with an O visa instead of a 60 day Tourist visa no further dealings with HAT YAI IO is required but my wife still did a TM30 at Songkhla without me.
Unless you have to have dealings with IO for extensions who will Know or care about TM30. Back to ME O visas for me.

Totally agree.
You should not invest more in this country than you are prepared to lose.
When you are too old to be insured you should be able to finance your own medical care.

Thankyou for the could have done this should have done that advice.
The one thing I have learnt in 40 plus years dealing with Thai Officialdom is that nothing is cast in stone.
It is on the day with the official in front of you, if they are having a bad day you WILL have a bad day, if they are having a good day you COULD ALSO have a good day. What happens on one day might not happen on the next day.
In my experience Thai officialdom is becoming more obstructive than helpful. I have posted to highlight this fact.

POST,
Only presented translated copy which has been good enough to change my wife's name in her Thai passport and on her Thai ID card to her married name years ago. The original is in the UK. They required the original now which in the past would have been rejected and only a translation accepted.

POSTED Last week I had a marriage extension refused at Hat Yai
1 Joint account not accepted although of many years standing showing millions deposit.
2 Thai translation of UK marriage certificate (1980) endorsed by British/Thai Embassies not accepted.
Told by Hat Yai IOs x2 to go to a Thai Embassy and obtain 60 day Tourist Visa which they would extend for 30 days to cover my return to the UK 0n the 16th April.
Applied At Penang on Monday for 60 day Tourist Visa..
Arrived 15 minutes before opening at 9am. I was 86th in the line.
Given a check list
1 Application Form
2 Two recent Photos
3 Passport + photocopy
4 Exit ticket out of Thailand
5 Confirmation of Hotel accommodation in Thailand
6 If staying with friends/relative and invitation letter from them and confirmation of their address. (Oh dear!! Wife and I have House in Thailand but did not have Blue Book to prove it) Suddenly remembered wife's ID Card has home address on it so quick exit to Photocopy van in street outside the Consulate.
7 Warning that further documentation might be required but no mention of proof of FUNDS.
Gave items 1-4 to IO. His first request was for a copy of a bank statement. I was ready for the one and gave him a copy of our joint account pass book. He then wanted the book itself.
His second question was how long you in Thailand. Pointed out 16th April. His response was NO, NO TOURIST VISA, YOU HAVE TO APPLY FOR 90 DAY O VISA. Wife and I protested quoting Hat Yai recommendation of tourist visa. He looked pissed off and said he would change my application asked for the extra fee and told my wife to write I INVITE MY HUSBAND TO STAY WITH ME IN THAILAND on her ID Photo copy.
Job done picked up my new O visa today.
NOTE SUNDAY MID DAY BOARDER CROSSING SADAO. Took nearly 2hours to exit Thailand and less than 5 minutes to enter Malaysia.

Point is.
1 Why copy 8 years of passbook never with a balance of less than millions when the only balance relevant is on the day.
2 Why copy years of O visas when the only relevant one is the last one.
-
Thank you for the many should have done this should have done that scenarios.
I learnt very many years ago to avoid Thai officialdom and for more years I care to remember have successfully spent the winter months in our Thailand home and the summer months in our UK home. Always achieved on a multi entry O visa obtained in Hull. That is until this trip when I was told in error by the Hull Consulate that only single entry visas are available. Embassies/consulates also declare single entry O visas are readily extendable on a retirement/marriage basis at immigration offices in Thailand.
I do not want/need to live in Thailand full time but nevertheless opting for a marriage extension seemed easy and suited my purpose in the short term. BIG MISTAKE and I posted to highlight the fact.
I think I have proved to myself there is conflict between Thai Embassies/Consulates and Thai Immigration. i.e. Thai Embassies promote single entry O visas with extentions at Immigration in Thailand. Thai Immigration promote leaving the Kingdom to obtain a visa at a Thai Embassy (This was the first solution suggested to me by two IOs months ago at Hat Yai Immigration and the one I am now taking).
NOT TOO OLD TO LEARN!!! (RE-LEARN)

Ubonjoe, Yes it does. ????
800k Baht equates to 400 Baht each in a joint account with my wife, in my book anyway. The IO seemed to agree this last November on my pre application visit but did not confirm it yesterday as she went off on one regarding the fact Bangkok Bank had not stated balances on the covering letter to my two accounts Both books showed transactions on the day of application.
The IO told my wife to obtain confirmation that we are not divorced at the local Amphoe in Hat Yai which she said was only 10 mins motor bike ride away. That seemed pointless to me as when in Thailand we live in Singha Nakhon and deal with the Amphoe there. Not that they would know anyway.
During the visit she said to my wife in Thai "tell your husband to keep a cool heart" She also said how handsome and articulate I was for a person of my age compared to Thai!! Bless her. ????

The truth is I do not really care.
My wife is more upset than I am. Thank you JT for a constructive reply. I will take the IO advice and go elsewhere obtain a 60 day tourist visa and then return for a 30 day extension to see me through to mid April when I return to the UK.
I must say it is very sad that for the first time in over forty years I have felt unwelcome in Thailand.

For your information.
I saw the same IO in November only days after arrival. She saw my bank pass books and stated they were satisfactory. No question of my name only.
I was told that the evidence I supplied to get my wife's ID in her married name at the local Amphur would be acceptable. ie. Thai translation of marriage certificate.
DO NOT TELL ME I WAS NOT PREPARED.
Lets get real.

From Hull, Hell, Halifax and Hat Yai Immigration may the good Lord deliver us.
Facts
1. 80 years old
2. English, Married in 1980 to Thai in UK. Wife has Thai passport and I D card in married name.
3. Spent many millions of Baht in Thailand since 1977
4. Employed over 200 Thai nationals over 11 years in the UK.
5. Thai wife has been a business owner, property owner and has had the right to stay in UK for 39 years having two children and free medical care etc.
Today I applied for an extension to a single entry O visa (marriage) at Hat Yai.
Refused
1. They wanted original English Marriage certificate and rejected a Thai translation endorsed by British and Thai embassies.
2. They wanted a paper sighed by a local Amphur that we were not divorced.
3. Would not accept a joint bank account showing well above Bht 800.000 and showing a transaction on the day plus a letter from the Bangkok Bank which referred them to the pass book but did not include the balance.
4 Required copies of every page of bank pass book going back to 2011.
Past my sell by date ?
