  1. I believe that in Isaan the main problem is polished Sticky Rice. Rice has 2 different starches Amylose and Amylopectin. While Amylose has a relatively low Glycemic Index (GI) Amylopectin has a very high one. As Sticky Rice is high in Amylopectin its GI is at the same level as industrial cane sugar.

Accordingly traditional Isaan eat several times a day the (glycemic) equivalent of some hundert gram of white sugar. Diabetes is the result.

It is not without reason that the late kind promoted brown rice which has a much lower GI.

Practical problem: most of the toll millers where the farmers mill their sticky paddy to rice do not offer to produce brown (and farmers prefer white as for the more pleasant texture)

If this now is aggrevated by softdrinks and kfc .....

  2. The wife runs a small organic rice mill and we want to optimize the weighting process of finished packaging.

The scale can be preset to target weight and I can "harvest" a very weak signal of about 1 V and 40 mAmp (Signal is to make LED "weight reached" glow).

I need to use that trigger to open a compressed air valve. Valves are available in 12V, 24V and 230V with consumption of not more than 5W when triggered.

I am a food technologist and basically have no clue about electricity or electronics.

My local electrician also waved the white flag.

In a Germany forum I read that a solid state relay like like this can be used but what I need is a complete layout for a solution that I can present to a guy in an electronics shop to solder it together. If someone can do me the complete solution I am happy to pay in money or barter for delicious Organic Thai Hom Mali or Organic Sticky Rice. Thanks for the input!

  3. Hi,

I undersized our units both in the house and offices by about 50%. We are in Amantcharoen which has very hot summers. Built quality is typical thai which equals double carboard with some holes in it. We never had an issue with lack of cooling capacity while running target temperatures of 25°C.

  4. We have an IT project based in agricultural management and are looking for cooperation with a University, if possible from Isaan, preferably Faculties of Agricultural, Computer Science or Engineering.

While our budgets are quite limited  we are willing to finance some part time salaries for students interested to work on the above.
We could envision that work for Bachelor or Master Thesis could be incorporated.
A long term hire could result from this also.

For the new IT setup we have preseleted the following set of "ingredients"

    • PostgreSQL

    • PostGIS

    • QGIS

    Optional: Dadabik, Geoserver, Openlayers

Does anyone have input on finding an interested partner?

Project brief can be found here.

    Thanks

  5. When you have to transport some bulk stuff here and there you do not buy a pickup but a trailer you Hitchcock behind your limousine.

The trailer has all the lights as at care read end working and typically braves its own weight so little IMPACT on driving car is that respect.

Low cost, little to break and comfortable, Gas saving driving year round.

Trailer I have seen over here always have been rather dangerous homebrew, dangerous ich contraceptions.

    1. Ist it possible to buy EU quality trailer and Pulling installations including electrical wiring for the car?

    2. If not I content late importing Basic axis and build myself, possibly on small commercial level.

Please share your thoughts on this. Thanks

  6. If the price is right......shouldn't be a problem to gain the market......$300+ for 1st grade Hom Mali.......that'll do it!

Seems you have no clue about production cost. Good quality Homes Mali is grown rainfed of, one crop per year. A reasonable price for paddy is 15kThb, that price doubles from milling (yield is about half), then comes packaging, transportation, warehousing and the whole thing needs to be financed too.

Rainfed rice means no unknown substances coming down river, no antibiotics from shrimp ponds, no pesticides, fungicides or industrial waste.

In Isaan Hom Mali is grown almost completely without pesticides or fungicides.

If you can not taste the difference I potty you as your palate must have been deteriorated to an extend that they can give you a lot less pleasure than normal.

  7. Democracy cumulative in voting processes but they are not the basis.

Education, fairly balanced public radio and TV (like the public stations in Germany, Swiss and France; Thai PBS is a good start, transparent and accountable administrations (possibly the freedom of information act is the best part of the US system), draconian judgments against corruption and a 30% share of the bribes to the person that makes it public and facilitates court conviction

All this would go a long way to build the foundations upon which transparent and fair elections could take place.

  8. I don't see a better alternative then the only national body that was set up according to the law to nominate an interim government to get things going again.

The term neutral can be disputed mainly on the fact that there is no common ground that is considered neutral enough between the dissenting parties and interest groups.

Thus to have someone be put on the chair by the senat may be not ideal but the best possible solution with a huge margin compared to any other possible solution.

  10. My company supports about 500 Farmers in one small province in Isaac for organic certification.

For that we need maps of all fields, barns, houses. At the moment they are hand drawn and unreliable.

I would love to have exact locations with coordinates of all perimeters. We then would be able to integrate info into a database.

Needed would be GPS info with below 0.5m, ideally below 0,2m resolution and ideally matched to high resolution Arial photos which when bought are very expensive.

Budget for all the mapping is not more than 500k THB and we want to have a system we can extend with new farmers coming into the system.

Any ideas or do you know who could know helpful information? Thanks

  11. Thank you very, much for your insightful answers.

For wall construction I agree there are better ways than sandwich panels but I think it is the best way for roofing as they do need very little structural support and prevent lot of heat influx especially with wide shading overhangs.

CONSAT, the earth air tube and your application of it is intreaguing and may be exactly what I am looking for.

I will send you a PM and take the chance to visit asap, may be in late June.

  12. I plan to build a house later this year in Amant-Charoen and I want it as energy efficient and cool (temperature) as possible, if possible be a passive energy house concerning active cooling.

I would prefer to build it with steel-foam-panels as they are used for coldstorage or industrial roofing in Germany both for walls and roof and high insulation windows (triple glass, argon filled, good UV coating with high barrier frames with a K-value of 0.4 instead of 10 or so for standard Thai single pane Windows.) Such do not seem to be available so I would get them from Germany where I have a great factory source.

House cooling with air cooled through a pipe system in the ground 1. 5m below, blowing that air under the ealing into the rooms.

    - Would the sandwich panels and building expertise be available in Thailand?

    - would high insulation Windows and doors be available in Thailand?

    - Any suggestions (including info on Thai low energy houses) for adaptation to local, ideally more ecological materials?

    - Any idea if ants eat the PA foam in the panels?

Thanks for your input and ideas.

  13. I like to work with OsmAND which you find here. It is a software to run Open Street Maps which you have do download on a by country base from inside the program. I suggest WIFI for that. Maps are stored on the Card and also OsmAND can be moved to the card.

You can change local and english names on the map inside the program. Some nice addon programs available. All is free and I find the maps for Thailand and Germany exact and useful.
