  2. OK here's an update on my quest for a tablet  a poster (ballpoint) mentioned Banana and they have a branch in Robinson Surin, gave them a call and the tablet that I wanted was out of stock, said they would have to order or I could order myself online.

Anyway so I thought no harm in looking and was pleasantly surprised by their professional looking web site and purchased a Huawei T3 with sim 9.6 inch screen, delivery within 3 days     7990Baht

Thanks again to all who  contributed

What size of tablet are looking for?

Fro 10,000 baht you can find some name brand ones such as Samsung dependent upon the size. Getting one that can be used as a phone will cost more.

Looking to buy a 10 inch tablet or thereabouts, Huawei make a 9.8 inch for under 10,000 Baht which I think would suit me very well, comes with  WIFI or WIFI+sim.

Another member suggested buying online, I've looked on Lazada but was rather put off by some negative feed back and comments.

If I can't find any shops in Surin I may drive to Korat (IT city) where there should be a good selection to choose from, even though it's 6 hour round trip I think it may be worth it.

Thanks. I asked as I read the OP's post to mean "cheap" as "rubbish".

In my opinion this is no longer the case. Huawei for example are very good products. Oppo and Vivo also good.

Cheap maybe in comparison to Samsung and Apple but then those two brands are overpriced, in my opinion.

    Hi

Thanks for the speedy replies, what I meant by cheap were brands that I've never heard of and sell for about 2000 to 3000 Baht.

I'm prepared to pay up to about 10,000 Baht and would certainly consider Huawei  good value along with other brands I'm familiar with.

Thank you for replies so far much appreciated.

  6. I'm looking to rent a house or stay in a resort whilst we build our house near rattanaburi.

I've been living in the mil,s family home for 2 months and I've had enough of very basic living IE dirt floor, chickens running all over the house, filthy conditions and lastly the constant drinking.

    Any recommendations would be appreciated.

  7. whistling.gif What kind of account did you have?

It used to be (maybe no longer true) that you could have a term deposit account with the stipulation that you must be able to withdraw your money on demand WITHOUT a required term notice to withdraw those funds.

In other words, those accounts which required a specific period of notice before you could withdraw your funds were not allowed.

Otherwise, except for this stipulation, a fixed term account used to be allowed.

My account is a funds account, which is a stock market based investment for 1 year paying 3% (known as unit trusts in UK) When I opened the account I thought it was a fixed term deposit account, had the normal SCB bank book just as my savings account book.

Just been informed by the bank that no withdrawals are allowed and no closure.

Now i am having to bring in another 800,000 Baht to satisfy my Non o Visa, booked flight to Penang for Monday 8th December.

  8. Went to Phuket immigration for my 3rd year extension based on having 800,000 Baht in Thai bank, unfortunately i was refused as I had a funds account rather than a deposit account. I never had a problem last year with the same account but this year it was an absolute NO NO.

So now my plan is to fly to KL on Thursday and return on Friday get 30 day visa on arrival, go back to immigration convert to 60 day non o for retirement, put money into deposit account for the 2 months before applying for 12 months extension of stay.

Does this sound like a plan or have I overlooked something?

    Comments appreciated

  9. None unless you are in an authorized study program and thus meet extension of stay requirement and how long or how many times will depend on the school and your study.

Sorry I should have given you more information :-

I have booked 200 hours Thai language course and school have already obtained a 4 month extension of stay. When my 200 hours course is completed will I have to exit Thailand and obtain another ED visa or can my original Ed visa continue to be used for extension to stay so long as I book more lessons.

Is there a limit on the number of extensions?

    Thanks

  10. I was led to understand that when I re-entered Thailand on the 20th September I would be granted 90 days as per my ED visa and re-entry permit ,so this is not correct?

Until 23 September. A re-entry permit only keeps your current permitted to stay date.

You may want to confirm those dates as normal ED extension of stay for language is 90 days I believe; although understand Phuket is unique in allowing one year at times.

  11. Hi

I have an ED visa single entry and entered Thailand on the 24th February 2011 and was admitted until the 24th May (90 days)

My language school obtained an extension to stay until 23rd September 2011 (120 days) with a report to immigration on the 15th august.

My question is this :- I will leaving Thailand on the 20th August and returning on the 20th September, how long will immigration permit me to stay?

I will be getting a single re-entry permit form Phuket immigration next week.

    Thank you

  12. I want to start a business from home and have been told I need some kind of official paper to display on the wall.

I assume it's some kind of trading licence as apparently all businesses have to display this certificate on their trading premisses.

Does anyone know the name of this paper and which government department issues them.

    Thanks

    tertim
