  1. relaxing holiday but you are both in you 20's??? Cha Am has nice beaches is great for a couple days (if the jelly fish arent swarming) but the Hua Hin is kinda the mature retired expats town filled with waiting for God characters!!! haha.. The only thing is that your missus may find fun is the night market but she is thai and she has seen hundreds of markets.

Pattaya is a city unlike any other with every and anything available for entertainment. yet is not on the same coastline.

Maybe it would be best to stick to the same coastline and if Pattaya is on your agenda, try Koh Samet, Koh Chang and Koh Larn and and all relatively easy transport to Pattaya.

If it was me I'd head up north to Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai lots to do up there with trekking, moutain biking, kayaking, national parks etc etc. maybe stop of at Ayuthaya enroute.

    Good luck

  2. If you like crap security, red light districts, cheap sex massage joints, very unhappy condo owners, shortime hookers and johns as neighbors, african pimps /drug dealers, coaches filled with fragrant budget pakistanis, indians and chinese tourist bus loads, smoking cigarettes and throwing their garbage all over the street, urinating against the wall. (the only place ive seen that has a big notice asking people not to urinate against he wall). then this is the place for you. Be Trendy, live at Trendy... the street floods over the sidewalk when it rains too washing all the garbage from up the street downward with a few dead vermin floating by for entertainment. Personally i wouldn't live there for free.

  4. I did tai chi for many years back home and I suggest you cruise the main public parks eg Lupini, early in the morning there are many people that are practicing different forms and I'm sure that they would welcome you to join them and teach you also

Good idea. I've done Tai Chi for many years and the form I like is practised by a group who meet at about six thirty am in the small park next to the Emporium Shopping Centre on Sukumvit Rd. I'm sure they would welcome you. But as others have said you can watch and copy, but you may not get all the detail. Still, they seem like a friendly group to me.

    Regards.

no disrespect intended but TV gets a lot of well intentioned misinformation! The main group that practice "Chinese" exercise in the park next to Emporium are Falung Gong practitioners and not Tai Chi Chuan practitioners. Incidently, Falung Gong was banned in China as a heretic practice?? Tai Chi chuan is fully supported and encouraged by the PRC. Many people claim to regularly practice these type of things but haven't a clue what they are practicing and preaching about. Google is a great resource for registered and qualified teachers and practitioners.

I suggest that one attends the Tai Chi school taught by the qualified westerner in BKK as he can explain what Tai Chi Chuan is and is not.

  5. Just tell the truth, they wont believe it anyway? They will have already labeled you a sexpat or expat or whatever, not that it changes the outcome.

she: Q.Why you like lady Thai?

you: A. errrm.. I love Thailand, Thai food and Thai girl very beautiful!

you: Q. So you don't have a boyfriend?

she: A. No hab now, I not like Thai man, Thai man no take care lady.

the bet is on the horse now!

The fact that she is talking to you means she is interested regardless of whether you are a bin man or a brain surgeon.

Most respectable Thai women not looking finance or romance wont even talk to a farang unless it is essential for work.

  6. had dinner at the Indian place in Emporium tonight, it was better than expected for Bkk. one starter, 2 main dishes and rice, cost for two 645 baht incl 2 soft drinks. i would return. beats the hell out of the sweating and grimey walk through the sleazy obstacle course like sois of lower sukhumvit to get to the asian/arbabic quarter in Nana.

  7. Sorry, yes, my post wasn't very clear there.

I mean, I'm looking to interview Westeners i.e. native English speakers. So if I approached 'schools' I meant, language schools hoping to pay for an hour of the foreign teachers time.

So, if there are language schools where Thai people pay foreigners for one on one tuition by the hour, then it wouldn't be so different. I'd be paying them to talk to me. I was hoping for either an idea where to go, or perhaps the best way to hook up with expats/tefl teachers here who'd be willing. The advantage of going through a language school is that it would include reasonably quiet premises to record.

Sorry again not to be clear.

pm me and can give you at least 6 western native English speaking tefl teachers here, that may want to help you out.

  8. Try JACKIES been running for 35 years family business, refreshingly honest, great personal service, fluent English, no hard sell, corner soi 9 sukhumvit. They PERSONALLY deliver to Europe and Asia. never had unpleasent deal with them for 10 yrs. ask for Niky or Aman tell them the doctor sent cha

  9. Do you want to only interview Thais? Do you speak Thai? Do you know anything about Thai culture and custom? If not you are likely to come across rude and offensive, especially as you've already considered just ambushing people? If you are just trying to gather in your placement hours I suggest you interview expats, lots of them willing to chat about unfulfilled dreams in Bangkok for the price of a coffee or beer.

  10. The poster has asked about Korean Buffet's and most posters have tried to help by offering Thai (ka taa) buffetts which there are many. They are not the same as Korean buffets but are cheap and some specialise in pork (muu) or beef (neua). The Korean buffets are usually indoor chain stores that can be found in shopping malls. For the (ka taa) ones try the leads given and add in Best Beef (On Nut) and one just 2 stops from Sukhumvit on MRT to Param 9. Rathchada soi 4 (actually there are 2 there) outside the Thai night club opposite side to Fortune Mall.

  11. I'm saddened to hear about your dilemma and I hope that someone can point you to some qualified professional help. However, for those of us that have been here for many years, most would agree that unless you know the people with influence in your neighborhood (BIB) it is unlikely that you will resolve this problem to your liking.

Living in the main tourist areas means that you are up against investors of billions of baht in running schemes to bring in more baht. The low end tourism generates as much or more than the more exclusive neighborhoods but the big land owners don't themselves reside in the tourist areas, hence they don't care about one condo owner's complaints. If I was in your position I would contact the best lawyers available to your budget as they usually have the contacts that can help. Us everyday Joe Farangs are seldom able to help in these situations except by pointing you in the direction of people of influence.

It still astounds me when I hear the amount of people that come to a developing foreign country like Thailand without doing their homework and invest their hard earned cash into most peoples largest purchases of a lifetime like homes. Thailand must have a special 'throw caution to the wind effect" on many people.

    Best Regards
