  1. Next year, when I submit a Personal Income Tax Return, must I include my UK Armed Forces Pension (which is not subject to double taxation) as income?  Presumably, I need only include my other pensions even though they have been subject to Tax by HMRC.

If I disregard my UK Armed Forces Pension from the amount I transfer to Thailand, I am left with a minus sum for Tax purposes after including all my allowances. I am over 65 and married. Do I need to submit a Tax Return?

  2. I am looking for an English speaking Lawyer in Ubon Ratchathani, primarily for the drafting of a basic will?  I have considered Isaan Lawyers but as they are based in Korat, would there be any problems with Probate in a Ubon Court when the time comes?. Would I be better using a local Lawyer?.

  3. Completed my Annual Retirement Extension at Ubon Ratchathani this morning using the Bank Statement as supplied by Bangkok Bank. While I was at the Immigration Office I showed them the Annual Statement as downloaded through the Bangkok Bank App and asked whether this would be acceptable in the future? The Senior Sergeant Major I spoke to referred up to her boss and shortly afterwards she informed me that the Online Statement would indeed be acceptable as long as it was stamped and signed by Bangkok Bank.

Next year to be on the safe side I will still request an Annual Statement from Bangkok Bank as well as downloading a statement from the App and getting it signed and stamped. Will Immigration have changed their minds? We will see what happens.

  4. Went to my Bangkok Bank branch in Ubon Ratchathani yesterday to order my 12 month statement for my Retirement Extension next week and they informed me that these are now available online using their Bualuang mBanking App. Whereas the statement ordered through the branch takes about a week to receive, the one ordered on the app is available to print off in minutes. Maybe this has been available on the app for sometime but I was not aware of the fact.

Does anyone have any experience of using an online print off for retirement and whether Immigration accept them? I still ordered my 12 month statement through the bank but will also take along an online print off next week to see if they accept it.

  5. Currently I am in receipt of four pensions from the UK including my Army and Government Pensions. I know that there will be no entitlement for my wife to receive anything from my Government Pension but she is entitled to a pension from the other three upon my demise.

My question is can she receive the Pensions from the UK, which are all taxed at source, without having a UK National Insurance Number?

  6. I want to use the Immigration Online Appointment system to book an appointment for my Annual Retirement Extension and at the same time get a Multiple Re-Entry Permit at the Ubon Ratchathani Immigration Office. The "Business Necessity Purpose" headings are a little vague so could anyone who has already used the Online Appointment system please indicate what heading I should use for both the Retirement Extension and Re-Entry Permit?

  7. I cannot comment on transferring $ but I regularly transfer Thai Baht to £. Once your account is set up it is very easy to make a transfer and the rates are much better than with Kasikorn Bank. Lately the transfers have been taking a couple of hours rather than next day.  I normally select Family Expense as the reason for transfer and Money from Savings as the sauce. Never had to produce any extra paperwork.

The only drawback was that I had to open my Account in person at their Branch in Sukhumvit, Soi 8.

  8. If immigration only stamps you in for the period of your insurance then, it would be a lot cheaper just to get a three month cover for your insurance and then get a new annual extension at the end of that period. If you have nine or ten months before your next extension then the insurance could cost you between 25-30k Baht.

  9. The VFS Global website states:  "Please note, you now have 240 calendar days from the date you completed your form on GOV.UK to have your biometrics taken at a Visa Application Centre. Please ensure that you book your appointment at a Visa Application Centre in the country you selected on your application, and attend within 240 calendar days."

Does this mean that I can complete and submit my wife's application for a UK Visitor Visa up to 240 days beforehand but for only request an appointment three months prior to visiting the UK?

I suppose I could ask the UK Immigration Service but I am very loath to give them the sum of £2.74p for the privilege of them giving me an answer by email.

Does anyone have any experience doing this?

  10. My Annual Retirement Extension based on 65k monthly income is due in May. At the beginning of May, I will request an Annual Statement from Bangkok Bank showing international deposits to my account for the previous 12 months.

Will Bangkok Bank Ubon Ratchathani Branch also supply me with a letter listing my international transfers?

Doe’s the letter from my bank showing that I own the account need to be dated the same day as my visit to Immigration?
