  4. Thousands of domestic tourists have flocked to Pattaya and Koh Larn in Chonburi to spend their holidays during a 3-day-long weekend, from September 24th to September 26th following the official approval of Mahidol Day. Yesterday (September 24th) was Mahidol Day which the Thai cabinet had approved for a special holiday on Friday. All government offices, notably including Immigration, were closed for the day. It was NOT a dry day, however, so sales of alcohol were allowed. (Although, unfortunately, bars are still legally closed nationwide in Pattaya and Thailand, so only purchasing at a store and bringing home was allowed.) Some more information on the holiday is below. 12. SONGKLA (NNT) - A pediatrician at Hat Yai Hospital in Songkla province has sought to allay the concerns of parents and guardians who have not consented to their 12-18 year old children receiving the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, assuring them that it will safeguard their children from the virus. Hat Yai Hospital infectious diseases pediatrician Dr Kanokporn Rangsitsathien has reiterated that all vaccines being used in Thailand were approved by the World Health Organization and are registered with the Food and Drug Administration, adding Pfizer is the only vaccine with research involving children. She asked parents to be confident in the efficacy of the inoculation despite some reports of unwanted side effects such as aches and swelling. Effects such as redness around the vaccination area have been found in 80 percent of first doses while headaches, fever and soreness were reported in 60 percent of second doses. Both conditions mostly lasted for only five to seven days and then completely resolved. On allergies to the vaccination, the main concern cited by guardians, the pediatrician cited data from around the globe showing very few people are violently allergic to the shots, with severe reactions such as inflammation rarely found. Hat Yai Hospital has noted a 20 percent uptick in COVID-19 infections among children, mostly stemming from contact within families. Nevertheless, the majority of children have shown few symptoms with fatalities so far occurring at a rate of 1 per 100,000. Dr Kanokporn urged parents to consider all the facts when making their decision to consent to a vaccine for their child. -- © Copyright NNT 2021-09-26 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

  14. KHON KAEN (NNT) - Khon Kaen Zoo has welcomed the latest member of the zoo’s animal family, with a newborn albino barking deer now ready to be admired by visitors. The male albino barking deer cub is the most recent arrival to join the animals at Khon Kaen Zoo, where visitors can now come and see just how adorable this rare animal is. The cub, who has yet to be named, was born into an albino barking deer family, consisting of a female “Mali” and male “Chokchai,” who are both the offspring of “Khun Petch,” who was royally bestowed on the zoo. The cub is now feeding on his mother’s milk, and is under close monitoring by the zoo’s veterinarian team. An albino barking deer has white hair, but shares other characteristics with common barking deers. Feeding on grass, leaves, and fruit, this type of deer normally lives independently and feeds at night, while typically resting under bushes during the day. When disturbed, these deers can vocalize sounds similar to a dog’s bark, hence the name barking deer. Albino barking deers start mating at around one and a half years of age during winter. A female albino barking deer gives birth after 6 months of pregnancy. Their life expectancy is around 15 years. The albino barking deer is a protected wildlife species under Thai law. -- © Copyright NNT 2021-09-26 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

  16. BANGKOK (NNT) - The Pheu Thai Party has countered a call made to the Election Commission (EC) by Sonthiya Sawasdee to dissolve it for supporting anti-government protests, assuring the EC that it has only worked within the political realm and seeking to penalize him for harassment. Pheu Thai Party issued an announcement following Sonthiya request to the EC to dissolve it, citing a Facebook post by party member Chaiamorn Kaeowibul stating the group gave financial support to political protestors. The party accused Sonthiya of not adequately researching his grievance and submitting insufficient evidence, pointing out that the actions are an indication of his intent to harass the party. It is to take legal action against Sonthiya, which could result in him being fined, imprisoned and stripped of his ability to run for office. The announcement confirmed the party has adhered to the political framework, democracy and peaceful practices, clarifying that it has no policy to provide financial backing to protestors. It nonetheless asserted that its members are free to join protests as they see fit under their own individual rights. It assured the EC it is ready to field any inquiries from the commission. Meanwhile, after supporting constitutional amendment drafts through their third reading, the Democrat Party has geared up to draft new legislation on the election of MPs, holding its first meeting on how to work with the EC. It expects to spend two weeks on its deliberations starting from when the drafts are submitted for royal approval on September 26. The party also intends to propose amendments to laws on primary votes and public participation in parties. Due to the passed drafts not indicating a formula for calculating party-list MPs, the party is also planning to discuss the matter. -- © Copyright NNT 2021-09-26 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates
