  1. I'm a farrang with my farrang wife (working on 40k+) and I want to obtain an O-visa. I'm a kept man and I love it, just sick of staying on tourist visa's.

Get a dependent visa with your wife. As long as she has an extension of stay based on business.

Sunbelt: What is the average cost of obtaining this visa through your company?

PM me if you don't want to discuss money on the forum.

We are proud of the fact that we are very transparent in our fees.

Our professional fee is 3,900 Baht and the government fee is 1,900 Baht.

This sounds very reasonable, I thought I'd be looking a 10K+. I'm sorry to ask here but what are the requirements for the dependant visa? ie what documents would you require, how much income/cash in bank and roughly how long would it take. My wife is on a Non-B with the usual 90 day reporting (Teaching in international school) and I'm on a 60 day tourist visa (double). Is it possible to convert the tourist visa in bkk?

EDIT: Just spoke to my wife and she's very happy with the costs you gave. Do I contact yourself or is this a common proceedure in your office? (reason I ask is when living in Koh Samui, I was informed that there is no visa for someone in my circumstance ie hard working wife, husband lazy git sitting at home playing on the XBOX all day). :o:D

  2. Can I just ask, are we talking about a Thai wife here of Farrang. Does it make a difference??

  3. They don't have a one year visa period and a 30 day stamp is not a visa on arrival. What they do is extend your stay for a period of one year at a time. This is normally obtained from a non immigrant visa but can, with a 2,000 baht extra step, be from a converted tourist visa (with 21 days or more remaining) and for the last month Bangkok and maybe others have even allowed this conversion from an entry without visa (30 day) stamp. They are currently trying to make it as easy as possible for those with the qualifications to obtain extensions of stay regardless of what they may now be using.

Correct but I know for a fact that although not common knowledge immigration in Bangkok has been able to convert a 30 day without stamp to a non-b since the start of this year. I know because 2 of my friends came to visit me, got offered a job and didn't need to leave the country to obtain the non-b. I was amazed...... cos only 6 months before my wife had to go to Penang to get hers.

  4. Dr Pat Pong I know now for sure that the link I said earlier is down and I can already see www.mfa.go.th with no problems. I quote from that web site the following

"For information on application for extension of stay, please see the website of the Immigration Bureau at www.immigration.go.th"

THIS LINK DOES NOT WORK!!! Maybe they are updating it as we speak, maybe not.

The site is currently down. I don't see anywhere it stating that 30 day only and I can't access the correct site to confirm.

    6. EXTENSION OF STAY

Those who wish to stay longer or may wish to change their type of visa must file an application for permission at the Office of Immigration Bureau located on Soi Suan Plu, off South Sathorn Road, Bangkok 10120 , Tel 02 287-3101-10 (or at http://www.immigration.go.th ). The extension of stay as well as the change of certain type of visa is solely at the discretion of the Immigration officer..

Just had a power cut but back up now and about to call and find out.

  5. I wasn’t being discourteous Dr Pat Pong and I wasn’t aware they had stopped the 15 day extension. By the sounds of it no one else on here had either.

The link still does not work for me and this page holds the info about visa extensions.

Could you post the info from the site that states only 30 days are allowed?

    Thanks in advance

EDIT: I can see the main page thanks to google cache but with no graphics and I can't use the links. Strange how you can see it and I can't. I used to do server tech support and as far as I can see I'm hitting the server or at least a cache of it from TRUE's Proxy server. Which IPS are you using, I know it's none of my business but it is very unusual for this to happen when we are both in a simular area.

Don't worry about the info from the Site, I'll call when theye open. I'm more likely to get more up to date info that way and thank you for your help.

  6. To be honest with my experience of asking questions full stop has not been that great. Just trying to get a phone line fitted here in my home took over a year. That was with Thai friends trying to help me out, running round in circles only to find out after 3 months of being told it would be possible to then being told that there were no spare lines available and I would have to wait another 3 months. That was 6 months ago lol.

I will however try and clarify this as I'm sure others will want to know but just remember that the Thai way is just give any answer regardless of wether they know or not.

Another point is that I got my tourist visa before the 1st of October so I don't know if that will make a difference either.

Dr Pat Pong lover of wine women and song seems to think the 15 day is a no go.

I'll let you know and thanks.

  7. http://www.immigration.go.th is the link I'm talking about are you sure you checked that one???

    I get the following message:

This is the Plesk™ default page

If you see this page it means:

    1) hosting for this domain is not configured

    or

    2) there's no such domain registered in Plesk.

For more information please contact Administrator.

and why do you think that an extra 15 days extension on top will not now be possible?? You could save me the journey if you have further info. I will perhaps wait til they open and call first but I would like to know how you came to this opinion.

    Thanks

"what happens to the people which has been staying in the kingdom for years since today (more than 90 days) and has been continuing continuing to make visa runs every month ? They must go away ?"

No, thay should apply for a visa through a consulate or embassy. All the people using the visa on arival have been taking advantage of a loop hole which they are now closing. It does however seem like they are trying to stop people who actually pay for visa's a hard time by stopping/limiting that too but it's not certain yet.

I'll confirm today about 30 day and 15 day extensions, I assumed that this would be common knowledge but it seems not.

Has anyone called immigration and asked about extension on tourist visa??

    OliG

  9. Thanks tropo and ovenman for the constructive comments, I will be able to let you know if a 15 day extension is possible today as I'm off to do just that now (just woke up). When I obtained my extension last month for 30 days I was told by immigration that the 30 day extension will still be possible for next time but I never asked with regard to the 15 day.

I will ask again tomorrow and respond here with the answers I get direct from immigration.

On the same point, the reason I have had to ask this question here is due to the link on the Thai immigration web not working. Check it for yourself here http://www.mfa.go.th/web/12.php

the link on the page is

    http://www.immigration.go.th

with this kind of organisation how do they expect to track anybody with computers. They can't even configure the web site correctly.

    QUOTE(tropo @ 2006-10-13 23:51:22)

"Even this extension is not a certainty, and little is available to verify new policy enforcement down at the Immigration Office."

The extension has never been a given right, it's up to the immigration officer is charge as to issue the extension. Although I understand what you are saying, If you asked me this question 2 months ago my answer would have been ofcourse they will give you the extension, it's more money for them.

  10. ovenman, that doesn't really help and thailand11 you might want to try doing a search before posting a topic.

In answer to your question, you can currently stay in Thailand for a maximum of 90 days without a visa (30 day visa on entry) not 3 entry stamps as some people are saying, then you must leave the country for 90 days before return. The days are counted not the entry stamps.

Your other option is to obtain a (multiple entry) tourist visa from a consulate or embassy before entering the country and then extending it. It seems that after that we are all currently in the dark about the options available as no one has had to deal with that. We will have to wait til Jan 1st 07 for more stable info.

  11. Judging by the lack of response to my question and the major amount of flaming of Thailand in other topics, I asume nobody knows or is too busy responding to the usual moaners about the effects to the ecomony of Thailand. The lack of genuine info seems to be more of a problem than the rule changes. Is this a help forum for Thai visas, residency and work permits or just a place to let off steam after drinking too much Chang.

If someone does know the answer to this question then please please let me know.

  12. Singapore is also an option - cheap flights on Air Asia from BKK and friendly/helpful embassy staff.

I just returned from there and got my one year non-immigrant O (multi-entry).

From all reports, Singapore is a good option for a non-'O' visa with the proper paperwork, but it has never been a good option for back-to-back tourist visas unless something has changed recently.

From most of my friends experiences with the Singapore consulate and non-b's has not been so good.

I agree sniperteam6, it's a big lump of cash to pod out that could be well spent here in Thailand, why are they shooting themselves in the foot on this one. I'm sure there would be far easier ways to keep track of people staying in Thailand than this.

  13. Ok. I'm on a tourist visa multi entry x2 and already done my 30 extension for my first entry, is it still possible to get the 15 day extension as before October 1st? :o

I wouldn't normally bother with the 15 day extension but I need to get some paper work in order so I can try and organise an O'visa or maybe even maybe non-B.

With all these change up in the air I don't know what to think. The only thing about all these new changes that bothers me is how little notice we were given and the little amount of official info available.

I don't think I would have even been aware of the changes it if it weren't for thaivisa.com's e-mails.

Again is 15 Day extension still possible?

  14. thailanddave, I understand your point but it doesn't make it right!!!!!

the comments from others that corruption is just the way things are here in Thailand don't stick either. If you have heaps of cash and know the general your alright jack, if your working hard but earn very little then life is very different. I'm sure many of the bar owner in Sukemvitt will agree with me as they pay out a major portion of their profits to the police for legit businesses to stay open. There will always be some kind of corruption in the world but we should at least try and minimize it.

I spoke to a couple of local Thai's tonight and they love Taksin, when I mentioned some of the majors scams he had been involved in they were not even aware of them. His control of the media and press in Thailand was probably a major factor to this, ask any reporter for the Bangkok Post or Nation and they will confirm this. Look what happened to the reporter last year who wrote the story about his sale of shares to his son. If anyone knows what happened to him, I would like to know.

As for Taksin's money, didn't anyone read the papers from earlier this year of all his offshore accounts???

  15. I just heard this on BBC, I know a lot of military guys on my street and they never mentioned this to me (only a few minutes ago). I'm going out for a beer, time someone did something about taksin.

As said before though, lets hope nobody gets hurt in all this.

    Peace out people, keep safe.

  16. I posted here about 5 months ago asking the question of obtaining a o visa based on my english wife working here. I was adviced to get a tourist visa which I did.

I've now been here in Thailand for nearly a year, staying on a tourist visa. I'm concerned that as it's nearly a year that I will have trouble continuing to stay on with a tourist visa. I would realy like to try and get a o 'visa for a year.

My first problem is that I do not have my marriage certificate with me and my wife has kept her maiden name. What are my options here, I just don't want to be in a situation where I can't get back to my wife.

I am willing to use an organisation that could help me sort this out. Anyone with advice or are in the same situation would be a great help.

    Nationality= British

    Age=30

    Many thanks in advance.

  17. Cheers ThaiFlyer, I have friends in Penang and found it very friendly so I think I'll just pop down there instead. I just thought it would be quicker going to Cambodia but having just done a google search, I 've read an awful lot of negative views. Shame, I was looking forward to seeing somewhere new, maybe another time.

Anyone know of a good place to get a bus to Penang or Hat Yai?

    OliG :o

  18. I need to get a mulitple entry tourist visa, how easy is it to get to the Cambodian Royal Thai embassy/consulate? Is it able to issue these visa's? searched on here but found very little.

Is there an easy way to get a bus there from Bangkok? I'm in Bangkok at the moment so any help would be great.

    Thanx

  19. The only reason I asked was because a guy I met in Koh Samui said that if your spouse was working here legaly, you could stay in the country as long as they were employed (with an O visa). So far I have not met any one else who is with their non-Thai wife in my situation.

My wife :o not GF, but thank you for the quick responce. I will probably just get another multiple entry tourist visa as you said.

    OliG

  20. OK first off, sorry if this gets asked a lot.

    Nationality= British

    Age=30

My wife is working here in Bangkok as a teacher, she has her Work Permit and Non B visa. She only has to report to immigration every 90 days which is done by post (I think, school deals with this). I have been here for nearly 6 months on my multiple entry tourist visa but this runs out pretty soon (May 20th).

What I want to know is, can I get a visa which allows me to stay in the country while my wife is employed (if so what documents are need)? I don't intend to work here, other than cleaning the house and making the dinner. Or is it a case of getting another tourist visa and doing the visa runs as and when needed?

    Many thanks in advance.

    OliG

  21. Thanks all for your responses, I knew this wouldn't be a quick trip to Penang. I will perhaps make a mini holiday out of it.

I don't actually start work until March time but the school have asked me to be available and close by before hand. As they are supplying my accomodation, I have no problem with this.

I don't want to give to schools details just yet but thanks again for all your help.

I will let everyone know how it goes and the details of the school as I get used to it.

  22. I am starting a new job in Bangkok next week and I need to get my non B Visa. I am currently in Samui so Penang seems to be the nearest place to get it from.

My problem is once I have the paperwork from my employer, how long does it take for the consulate/embassy to issue it. Does anyone know if I can get it speeded along and if so how.

Sorry if this has been asked a million times before, but the internet is very slow where I'm staying.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Also, why is it that so many people are giving different information about the 90 day issue. Once I have my visa and work permit will I have to leave every 90 days? The school I'm working for say this is not the case and I can simply visit the immigration office every 90 days instead. Just not sure who believe as this is my first job in Thailand.

    Again thanks in advance.

    OliG

  23. Ok so perhaps no one knows, or does but doesn't want to say.

Just to let anyone who is thinking of sending there child to the samui Dulwich school, this is what I have found out.

NONE of the teachers at present are qualified, unless hairdressing counts.

This to me is completely unaceptable for a school using the Dulwich name. I for one will be thinking of either setting up my own school to teach my children or send them to a school in Bangkok.

Why doesn't anyone on Samui understand the importance of education? Maybe they just don't care or just don't understand.

Thanks for the input, did think someone out there would be able to give more advice on this.

If anyone is interested in setting up a good quality school on Samui then let me know.
