Im going over to Thailand in 2 weeks and stopping for a few days in Phuket before meeting up with mates in Bangkok. Just wondering if anyone knows much about the backpacking scene in Patong beach! also is it common for people to travel there by themselves, as i will be doing. Also any recommendations on a good, cheap and central place to stay would be good..

What does everyone do after the Reggae pub or othr pubs / close.. do people just go to sleep, or do they go somewhere else. e.g to drink on the beach.

Just wondering what the ease of picking up european girls in bars/ pubs in Samui is.. I know that it varies hugely on the person you are etc etc however from past experience do most of the girls go with partners or by themselves, do they speak decent english , etc...

Im thinking about going to a Full Moon Party next year sometime.. just wondering what the percentage of foreigners to thai people there in general, and what people tend to do with accomodation... do many people stay out all night and not have accomodation or does the party start to die down at a certain time when everyone goes to sleep?

what sort of beach activities are offered in Hua Hin... do they have parasailing and jet-skiiing for example... if so how much are they in general?

Bangkok airways has a monopoly when it comes to travelling by air to Koh Samui, as they are the only airline that flies there. I have flown on Bangkok Airways twice now and i must add that they have nice clean planes, and very friendly staff.. great airline for famalies as well

i am supposed to be going to phuket from the 6th - 13th jan 2005.. what do you think the condition of patong beach will be like then?? i these tidal waves have just ruined my holiday...

i cant change my plans now as everything is booked. from what ive seen patong beach looks good and a nice holiday destination. I am staying in a good hotel so hopefully that should make things safer.......

yeh i will definately be getting tuk-tuks. I was just wondering because i have 3 friends staying in phuket at the same time as i am and i am just interested to know the general distance between our hotels. thanks for all the help

so it is a fairly long beach. what about from the patong merlin to the patong resort which is only a block or two away

thats good to hear. do you use a tuk tuk to get back at night because of the safety risk or because you cant be bothered to walk... also off the topic how long do you think it would take to walk from the novotel on patong beach to the patong merlin hotel on patong beach..
