My papers have gone back to SB following my NIA interview and will be forwarded to MOI this month apparently...

As arkady said, it will be risky.
However, if you really cant keep your job or get fired etc, you may want to start your own small business and get a WP.
If you see the nationality act, it clearly mentions that the candidate must have an occupation.
That being said, nothing is written in stone but on this forum all of us will agree that you must maintain WP thru out the processing period
Hope this helps
It certainly does. Very helpful, as always!

Dont cancel WP, your application can get stalled for good, not worth the risk.
Thanks for this information. If I retire before my MOI interview, does it significantly affect my chances of gaining citizenship? What about after the MOI interview but before the documents are issued? It's going to be close to the wire for me...

Hmmm...doesn't seem fair that these are in circulation/being given "to practice". During my interview/test I was just asked to choose 1, 2 or 3 - I chose 1 (exactly the same as above) and scored 9/10 (to my surprise - thought I'd get more wrong).

No, your new Thai name will not automatically be used on your new ID card. All of the paperwork and Royal Gazette announcements will have your foreign name on them. You will first get your ID card in your foreign name, at which point you could have the option to change your name to the Thai name you reserved at the start of your application. Your new Thai name is never used a single time in any paperwork after the day you request it as just part of the process that you are required to do.
Thanks very much for clarifying this.

You probably could but you would have to check with the district that surname is still available, if you didn't use when you got your ID card. They explained to me that it is reserved until you get your Thai citizenship and I think 3-6 months after that. For Brits taking a foreign name now means they have to change their name by deed poll in the UK to the Thai name and renew the Brit passport in that name, two different names are no longer allowed, if you want a Brit passport. Some people like the idea of a new identity but it never appealed to me.
Could someone please explain this as I don't understand? If I'm granted Thai citizenship, I presumed that this would then be used on my Thai ID card (I'm British) when I apply for it. I don't get the "use it or lose it" bit.

I had my interview and tests at Special Branch and now need to contact the British Embassy Consular Section to get the letter and certify my passport (should be quite straightforward as they provide both services in the same pack & I can post everything off - SB gave me a couple of sealed envelopes ???? to send off too).
They also asked me to get my old Thai Language O Level certificate certified. However, from my enquiries it seems that the embassy don't do this. Any ideas where would be a good place to get the certificate certified (I've already got it translated)?
Thanks!
I got this sorted btw. I need a letter from the school in Thailand where I sat the exam & then I'll take this, with the certificate + translation, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Im assuming you're not doing it in bkk? I my case bkk sb case officer estimated my points before meeting his boss upstairs . This helped in knowing i didn't need to sing or pass writing tests .
SB bkk meeting is the 2nd most difficult because they do not want to send a candidate to fail
Yes, it's in Bkk. Thanks for the info.

All my interviews were always pretty much the same in terms of the questions and I never wore a suit, just smart casual is ok. There are similar posts if you look through the hundreds of pages or you can try to search.
Questions were usually like:
- why do you want to be a Thai citizen
- how long have you been in Thailand why did you come here
- tell me about your education level where you studied
- if you're married still ask about where you met your partner how long you've been together and do you have any children
- what's your job and where do you work etc
- ever helped Thai citizenship: charity etc
- I was asked had I ever been involved in any of the mobs haha
- possibly a question on HM
That sort of thing.
Thanks - that's very useful. Yes, I realise that the same questions must have been answered before but it's such a long thread.
Can I also ask whether there will be a Thai language test and a Thai Civics (general knowledge questions about Thailand) test during my SB interview?
-
Apologies if this has already been discussed.
I have my SB interview next week. Can anyone please advise how to prepare and what to expect? I'm wondering whether to wear a suit or just smart work clothes, what kind of questions will be asked, etc.
Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

Really appreciate this! Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the updates. I've read the last few pages and it now seems that the 'no criminal record' and 'certificate of legal age' documents are no longer needed. Can anyone provide me with (a link to) an updated list of documents/requirements needed in order to apply for citizenship?
My wife went to SB at Police Headquarters (Rama I) today and was told that they no longer handle applications. Any update yet on where the documents need to be submitted? TIA!

How would obtaining Thai citizenship affect my status as a UK national/passport holder? TIA!
-
Thank you, Jayboy. I don't have much free time and would prefer to avoid the hassle of doing it myself, even if it means that I need to pay for someone else to help.
With this in mind, can anyone recommend a trustworthy agency/lawyer based on first-hand experience?
-
Thanks for your reply, Jack. I'll spend some time looking at existing threads then. I'm just mindful of the fact that I have a full-time job and other commitments so I have very little free time. That's the main reason why I was considering an agency to help with the leg work.

Could anyone please recommend an agency/company in Bangkok for handling PR applications? TIA

Second, if you are married to a Thai, you don't have to memorize the king's song or national Anthem.
That's a relief!

You absolutely do need a yellow book.
Thanks! In the process of getting one anyway (+ pink ID card at the same time).

They take your gross and divide it by 12 to arrive at your monthly salary.
Your last / latest return is what they base your point score on.
You must have 3 years continuous certified returns to apply.
You will need a bkk yellow book imho
Cheers, Yankee. If they do that then I'm easily eligible. I'm in the process of applying for a yellow tabien bahn as the amphur also advised me to get this first. Thanks again!

I'm not 100% certain where to ask, thus I would suggest to try it at the general Thai government helpline 1111, in the past they have been quite helpful for me.
They can probably not directly answer your question, because it's too special, but they should be able to give you the phone number of the department who can answer your question.
Good idea & useful number to have. Cheers!

Or you just call them and ask, 30k easily saved.
Yes, I'll do that. Do you - or does anyone else - know if the best place to call is my local district office? Or another place? Thanks

it says 40K monthly... not say anything about how long for.. might be 3 years because it says 3 yrs working time for married man
i really think you have nothing to scare..
PS: or you might want to spend max 30K for a lawyer and no headaches..
Really appreciate your input. Cheers!
