  1. My 5 year license comes up for renewal in mid July.    Since it was 5 years ago when I last renewed can anyone advise if this is still the paperwork I will need for renewal:
    1.   Embassy letter verifying address
    2.   Passport and 1 year visa and a copy of each.
    3.   Old license plus renewal fee

I will renew at the office in Minburi, Bangkok.    I remember 5 years ago I went there early and the place was packed so thinking might be better to go after lunch?

  2. It wasn’t an April Fools Day joke. It was not a “takIng a donkey to water” and not drinking scenario. Transfer from USAA was initiated on 2 April and it was deposited in my Bangkok Bank ATM capable account this morning. People here on TV had me concerned here for a spell. But whewww! The drama was exhilarating if not somewhat stress inducing. This ‘donkey’ is glad I didn’t drink the water.

  3. I comply with the IAT standards listed. 1. Your name and physical address in Thailand. 2. Your bank account number and the name and address of your Bangkok Bank branch in Thailand. 3. The 9-digit routing number of Bangkok Bank New York branch, which acts as the intermediary in the transaction, which is 026008691. This donkey does not drink water from a bucket, thank you very much.

  4. I currently have my pensions directly deposited into my USAA Bank account in the US. I created this USAA bank account online and in Thailand. Which is substantially above the 65,000 Baht per month requirement for retirees. I set up with USAA an automatic and in perpetuity a monthly withdrawal equal to the Thai monthly requirement deposited directly into my Bangkok Bank ATM account. I never look. I never care. It’s seamless.

  5. I have installed the ThaiVisa app on my Samsung Note 5 smart phone.  The question is why, after selecting one of my subscribed forums, it goes into 'loading...' mode and nothing ever loads.  It just remains in that status indefinitely.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app several times.  Same, same.

  6. Thanks for the replies. For the time being I'll continue to report by snail mail. What was puzzling to me is why does DFAS and OPM allow me to access my accounts online but SSA won't? Ridiculous restriction. I'll pass on allowing anyone allowing me to use their residence as a drop box for my personal matters, regardless of if I know them. What I thought of when I considered setting up a US mailing address with www.usa2me.com was that it seemed to be giving me the same benefits as if I would have sent it to a residence of a person I knew in the US. Both would just collect it and shove in a drawer or a folder or forward it to me if I requested it and would definitely collect dust. In both instances, I'm still not physically residing in the US. Both would have a US residential address. In the case of the web site I previously referenced, my "anyone in the US residence" would be: 10685-B Hazelhurst Drive, No. #####, Houston, TX 77043.

  7. Social Security requires a US mailing address in order to create a mySocial Security online account. That posed an impossible hurdle since I don't have a physical address in the US. So, I thought I'd try an alternative solution to this stupid US address restriction. I create an account at www.USA2ME.com (the Silver plan) which gives me a physical US mailing address. Then I will proceed to set up an account at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount/ and hope for the best. I will then, in essence, have a physical US mailing address while maintaining actual physical residency in Thailand. Sounds like a plan, right. Right?coffee1.gif

  8. In 2009, the IRS sent me a tax refund paper check made out in US dollars.smile.png Bangkok Bank wouldn't take it or didn't know how to accept it.facepalm.gif

I put it in my paperwork dust bin as a lost cause.

In 2010, 2011, 2012, and now 2013, the IRS has been sending me a replacement tax refund paper check for same said tax year 2009. Bangkok Bank seems clueless.

I sense that I'm going to continue to annually receive a replacement check ad infinitem.. The amount is not extravagant, only $124 dollars, so its not a huge loss.

It's nice that they keep trying.
