I would say it is pretty good. About 12000 GBP per annum plus generous freedom to make financial planning arrangements for old age throughout ones working life.
Citizens of many countries get nothing.
I'd paid in the full 35 years, now, im 4 years short of full entitlement.
If i catch up the four years, the quotation is 193 sterling per week, or 10036 pounds annually.
I'd need to add circa 3000 sterling to make up the difference which is around 24 pounds a week.

Brexit did not help the British Government policy on Pensions , but the value of pensions dropped , just like Covid
with price rises affected the overseas pensioners ,both badly affected expat pensioners, the British
Government has done nothing and most likely will do nothing to help expat pensioners in the future .

Price rises have happened worldwide, regardless of Brexit or Covid.
Prices have increased here in Thailand also. Im pretty sure this has nothing to do with frozen uk pensions.
There is absolutely no connection between British frozen pensions, Brexit and Covid.
If there were, surely youd have supplied links?
It sounds like a Brexit bash comment.

Leaving unions affects finances in a big way.
Of Scotland leaves UK, the English will lose lots in oil revenue, and Scots will get better pensions, for example.
Offer links....
The ruling was made years before Brexit was even discussed.
And Scottish pensions will get better 🤣🤣. Offer evidence.

The UK's policy is easy to understand.
If you're in Thailand you don't contribute anything to UK. You're not consuming nor buying anything in UK.
And if people complaining about coming hospital expenses in the future, then I've to ask why you don't have any insurance? If you cannot afford just stay in UK. Even there you'll have hot summers.🙏
The fact that people have contributed to their pensions entitles them to the same benefits as everyone else.
British pensioners living across Europe have increased, whats the difference on location?

How, exactly didn't Brexit help British government policy on pensions?
And how, exactly has Covid influenced British government rulings on pension increases for non EU overseas pension payments?

it's called inflation , Brexit did not help , Then Covid , ,I don't think anyone thought things
would turn out like this , I am still on 90 quid a week ,good job I don't need it as provided
for myself before retiring at 42 , But I can feel for those relying here on pension only, no
way will we get any relief from the British Government ,too busy looking after immigrants.

Try Bkk-Samui to see high prices!

My take.
I've been here for 12 years.
I'm in Samui.
During the difficulties of the C.v.d years, locally, many lost their business and far more lost their jobs.
Thais could always easily find another job.
Samui is a tourist destination, it brought employment for many Thais, northern eastern, southern etc.
At that stage with a different
govern m ENt Thais from all over would have accepted T's return, assuming it would have been an improvement on the previous.
Any thoughts?

Does anyone have detailed info on the deaths, IE, breakdown on age grous, pre-existing conditions etc?

I can not agree. I recently did a transfer from UK bank (in £) - Wize - my Thai bank (in baht ) .
From UK bank to SCB, including email /app / SMS notifications, was less than 10 minutes...even though Wise said could be up to 2 days!
And rates were fantastic!
I use UK to SCB also.
May I ask, which selection do you use as the reason for transfer?
Originally, it was seconds, but now always delayed, sometimes overnight (I don't transfer from Fridays to Sundays)

The hospital does not make quarantine or deportation laws. Blaming them is farcical.
They were wrong to keep the passport, however, they have seen untold instances of farangs running away from their bill. I know this because the head of foreigner service told me herself.
Every day they are faced with irate farangs, I've witnessed it. Irate because it's not run on the basis of private or NHS hospitals. Many westerners visit, are admitted, and face the language barrier. That is not the hospitals fault.
I've had many meetings with the lady in question, earlier this year. She could not have been more helpful, visiting an old man (not my family or next of kin) in his final days, calling me to update me. She didn't have to do that.
And, having established a good relationship, the lady herself was happy to wait for bills to be covered whilst his family transferred funds here to make payment. This sometimes took 3-4 days.

There are 30 Self Catering Villas, all high end. They range from 4-7 bedrooms, several have built in cinemas. All privately owned.
Not one of them has a reception, although the main office has facilities for registration.
Just for info....

JohnnyBKK, you can very easily refuse them. And why do you accept a straw, along with the extra bag?

Samui has volunteers, Thai and farangs who frequently organise beach clean ups.
Note 'volunteers ' not officials.

Would today's date throw any light on this issue?

I feel for this guy. I have both a son and daughter, unfortunately born in Thailand, and know full well from bitter experiences, the feeling of being held back as a father, the anxiety, frustration, the not knowing, dealing with the carefree attitude of the Thai mother, who normally pushes the children onto the grandparents, in most cases, and using the father as a friend with benefits to simply extort money from, so they can wear gold, or have the latest smart phone with the fake accessories, trying to be high so. You cannot make a silk purse from a pigs ear, but they try!
I've been there. .!
I personally would never take either my son or daughter from their respective mother, not unless the welfare of the child was/is at risk.
However, more assistance should be made available to foreigne fathers. As in my case, the British Embassy did very little to assist me and in fact, my Sons British passport was registered in my family name, but the Embassy allowed his British name, as stated on my sons Thai birth certificate, to be changed to his Thai name, even after I refused to allow his name to be changed! The British Embassy should pull its tongue out and focus more on its own citizens!
Those many fathers, out there, will know what I'm taking about.
As for taking the matter to a Thai court, I've been there too. A waste of time, money, frustration etc. I'm a farang. Lowest of the low!
I fully appreciate the fathers actions, but feel that placing him in jail, is yet another slap in the face for foreigners. Ok, it is abduction, but it's his own flesh and blood, and he probably was doing it for a very good reason?! Let's face it, Education in Thailand is sub standard, future outlook is bleak etc and although the U.K, is not a perfect place, it is, however, a much better place compared to here. FACT!
Some may ask, "Why do you stay?" Because of my children, and for no other reasons at all. I could run, but I man up, unlike the locals, and try to be a part of my children's life, although much restricted!
I wish the father, in this report, plus all all those other caring fathers the best, but it is a struggle.
You, sir, deserve a medal.
Your observations here have more merit than any other.
I'd love to see this end well.
And I hope your situation ends well for you and your children.
I hope you have peace .

Cones are used extensively here in Samui by owners of property, not by local government. Seems to work.

Absolutely spot on. The two year sentence is baffling. And then he gets a passport, madness.

Queen Victoria will be turning on her plinth, as well as her grave, when she learns of this news. I guess the Embassy will be operating out of a 4 room condo unit in future, as everything is outsourced and austerity post-Brexit Little Britain bites to the bone of its past hope and glory mythology.

What's this 'effect of brexit' tosh?
You, nor any one of the so called experts have any idea how it will pan out.
Back on topic, £420 million, huge amount of money. Take it if offered, reinvest.

Complete waste of money. I worked for many years in an industry where getting customers to add scotchgaurd to there fabric netted us almost a 75%profit. We knew however its next to usless.
Understanding your point, Thank You.
Just asking if its available. Have you seen it recently?
-
Has anyone seen Scotchgard on sale recently?
I know Homepro used to sell it, but it seems not in the last year or so.
Lazada list it as out of stock, as does Lazada Malaysia.
Any observations welcome.
