  1. I think central Thais don't know these leaves. We don't cook with it ever, at least to the best of my knowledge.

I sometimes get fresh curry leaves along with other indian/sri lankan spices at the bangkok refugee Center in soi indramara 35 in suttisarn area.

I guess you can find them in pahurad near Sikh temple too.

  2. Try Somtam Nua

    Siam Square soi 5

    http://m.cnngo.com/b...eat/som-tam-nua

    It's north eastern cuisine

    Fried chicken is good

    also try kanom jeen pad

Quality drops a bit lately but these 2 dishes still nice. Long queue though

In the paragon shopping mall or central world, try Laem Charoen seafood

Order fried fish with fish sauce, stir fried tow meow (name of veggies), grilled shrimps etc

Palm cuisine at thonglor (sukhumvit soi 55)

I like their stir fried crab

    Krua Apsorn

It is not far from the old town area and kaosarn (with a cab)

I can easily find shops or food stalls that can prepare a few Thai dishes and served with rice.

Any such place in BKK around the touristy area like Siam Square, Silom, etc ?

I know there are restaurants everywhere in BKK but we are looking for outstanding Thai food. I am sure there ......

    Thank you very much GF132,

1st one - is this a good enough place for a full meal ? Is it in air-cond ?

2nd one - Good location, may try it out.

3rd one - A little out of the way.

4th one - sounds good and look authentic but is this place near to any attraction, how far from any BTS ? That google map is in Thai and small, how can I find it in google map ? If I call to reserve, can they speak English ?

Thanks again. I always see alot of people eating by the roadside, outside near Central World bridge before crossing to Pratunam. A few stalls sell the same type of large fish covered with salt with other food. Is it good there ? Why so many people eat there despite the uncomfortable crowded environmement ? I am tempted to try.

    1st place has air con.

3rd place is right where locals hang out at night. Many nice bars

4th place not in walking distance from any tourist spots but with a cab, it's very close to the temple of emerald Buddha.

Never tried The food stall near but can be good. It's probably cheaper too. The fish covered in salt is generally a tasty dish.

    Hope this helps

  4. For rice with roasted duck, BBQ pork and crispy pork, try saengtong suttisarn. Soi Indramra 33. Super tasty. HK collegue said it's better than many stalls in HK

Stir fried wide rice noodles with chicken (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวคั่วไก่) at Nai Hong stall. Unbeatable. Map in the link below.

  5. This place is one of the best for this kind of noodles but if you don't like kiam ee, you might not like it. So far it's the tastiest of its kind for me.

Try shrimp wanton soup on Rama 4 called Sawang noodle shop.

    http://bangkok101.com/2011/10/street-eat-sawang/

Their soup is very tasty. But again simple but comforting

Try this old school noodle called kiam ee เกี๋ยมอี๋ in soi Charoen krung 23, china town area. It is very close to wat mangkorn (dragon temple) the most important Chinese temple in Thailand.

When you are in soi 23, it is the second stall to your right. I repeat it's the second shop not the first!

    http://www.pg.in.th/blog/view/7223

It is one of the tastiest place for kiamee. Make sure you add their special chili sauce! This place opens for lunch only

    Enjoy BKK!

I think I tried this place; is it very cheap but rather plain looking type ? Just 20 bahts a bowl think. You always see them preparing 5 to 10 bowls non-stop.

Nice but too simple for a meal.

  7. Fortunately, there is a small but pure & authentic Sri Lankan restaurant is called Lanka Bojana. A too well kept secret, or they would be overflowing with appreciators.

It is also near the Indra Hotel, just the opposite side of the wide main street & a bit further away from Sukhumvit. One can use the walking over pass just there. Also notice there is a 7/11 on the corner of the small soi wattanawong. Walk about 2 blocks down this lane, it is on the left hand side. If you call ahead, 02 2531391, they will make most any traditional foods, especially great & very different from any where else here, Vegetarian food! Ask for coconut sambal, Gotu Kola (bi boa bok) sambal, steamed pitu, uniquely flavored, mushroom curry, soya meat curry, mellum of various sorts, hopers, as well as all the traditional meats, etc. They also have red rice on order.

From at least this perspective, the Lankan lady cook is really fantastic & the service & decor is warm & friendly & simple. enjoy!

Since the Ayubowan closed a few years ago, this is the only one (although the Thai food restaurant that is in that same building on the left, down Soi 8 is elegant & fantastic! It's called Kinnaree. They also have an alternate vegetarian menu) hopefully there will be more, as most don't know about nor have tried the incredible Lankan cuisine, which is closer to Thai than to Indian. With all the cultural similarities, close proximity, similar ingredients, it is obvious and should be much more popular. Especially as the Lankans arguably have the richest and spiciest flavors, surpassing even Thai.

Looking forward to seeing some other reflections or reviews of this place here, should anyone reading this, try out this little gem...
