What she says is not what she means....It's a trap!
Trust me, if you play around and she finds out about it.....You're gonna have hell to pay!
If you live in Thailand......Sooner or later she will find out.
Agree! Kind of like, "Up to you". That does not mean what you think it means!

The author gives accounts of his own personal experiences from which you can draw your own conclusions. These observations, I can tell you, are not anomalous. More than self centered, I believe the Thais are somewhat childlike. There is no foresight in their mentality. The rice farmers have borrowed far more than any of them can ever repay, huge sums are dumped into the education system - who knows how much really makes it to the schools, wit no assessment of the school systems.
Appearances or "face" is of supreme importance, all else must take a back seat. If you understand the rules, it is easier to play the game and function within society. You must take the good with the bad.
To my advantage, I could care less about my "face". I have no problem deferring to others. This alone has brought me countless benefits. Even if the society around me seems to be suffering from a "self centered epidemic", I don't have to fall prey to the same disease.
After all, I'm the one who has to live with myself.

I would recommend relying on Smith and Wesson for your security. If only for perceptions sake. If indeed they are called upon to protect you, any problems that may arise as a result, imo, are worth the bargain, considering the alternative. Bail is cheap here, regardless of the offense.

Thai cops should be allowed to carry bananas only in their holsters. Which is rather apt I think.
Agree, guns aren't usually needed to block roads for motorcades, anyway.

Where I teach, only a bachelor's degree is required. It doesn't have to be in education. I think this is true nation wide now, however on any given day, depending on where you are and who the official is that you deal with (and your attitude), the rules can change. I've learned this from personal experience.

Been driving here for 7 years car and bikes its dangerous but being smart you can avoid a lot.
Anyway finally something to see that Thailand is ranked high in they will be so proud.
Agree, but it is the dreaded certainty of the little that I find so disturbing.

Fake bomb, calm, change of clothes - in short pre-planning was involved: definitely a foreigner!

It is not the Farangs not knowing the road rules in Thailand or lack of driving experience that causes accidents it is the lack of knowledge on how the thais disrespect the laws and drive as tho they are the only ones on the road.
Even armed with this knowledge, avoiding an accident can be quite difficult!

Local lady almost ran over me and my family while making an illegal turn from a far lane. She approached me while we were entering Big C, and said: You need to look out for me farang! I've been trying to do that all along, but watching 360 for all the locals, who surely are all driving with proper permits, registered motor vehicles and a thorough knowledge of the laws governing the Chiang Mai motorways is quite stressful.
I propose the honorable Chanchai Kilapaeng, require all drivers to install big rubber bumpers surrounding their cars. Not sure what to do about the motorbikes.
Anyone who enjoys driving here must be a thrill seeker or incredibly myopic.

Sounds like the note was prophetic.

Two questions:
Will she be a regular guest?
Will she be cooking?

"After the ASEAN Economic Community crystallises" . . .
IMO, this will happen about the same time snowballs "crystallize" in hell.

Well it only took five years for justice. T.I.T
it has taken five years to convict Jodi Arias of murder and she still has not been sentenced. So justice is slow in America as well.
Please, you don't really want to start with comparisons, do you?

TIT.wait a minute... what if it is her husband? can they legally have sex?
She probably didn't before, if she's the typical . . .

Help me out here. "charged with sexual offenses with a minor under the age of 15". Do I understand correctly that 15 is the age of consent?! I guess those 15-year-olds are little long in the tooth for this sicko :-/

So the government plans for 10 percent of the population to not use public toilets " with good hygiene". Wonder how that may affect the rest of us. Hmmmmmmm.

Just watched with my Thai wife. We both thought it was funny. Seems to be mocking the men of America more so than Thailand. The minister should view this as free advertising!

Isn't it interesting that the Thai ego doesn't allow forward thinking. Mr. T had to show off to the NY Times, not once considering how it may affect his influence.

All I could think was ..... look at that gut!
Obviously you have been here for a while. That look would pass for svelte in Farangland.

Yes. A soap opera with a story line reflecting reality is unusual for Thai TV. The last time it happened it was about Thai air hostesses - again too close to the bone.
Agree. I have been thinking the same thing. Most realistic show on Thai TV since Woody Woodpecker, even including the black magic! No wonder it's scandalous.

I agree. I've done 6 months for $1200 per month but I ate at more Western style restaurants than necessary. There are small places with Western style food cheaper, but I didn't figure that out for a while.
IF you get a girlfriend, and depending on the girlfriend, or IF you like bar girls all bets are off.
Ain't that the truth! If you marry a Thai wife, good luck making it last a year, even if she comes from the poorest part of the country. You will be the meal ticket for the extended family. Bar girls are much cheaper.

Yeah, good thing he didn't hit all those "stationary motorbikes". That might have caused upwards of a few thousand baht worth of damage.
