    Hi, I have a PR.

When I got the autogate sticker in my passport the IO told me I have to come back when I get a new re-entry endorsement and have them update the information in the system with the new endorsement number.

However I read this thread and nobody mentions this ?

Has anybody else been told to do this ?

That is correct. When you get a new annual Non-Quota Visa + associated re-entry permit you have to get the staff at SVB to enter those new details.

last year I got new Non-Quota Visa stamp in my passport with registration for E-channel from previous year not yet expired. Have used it frequently without problems until have to get new passport last April.

Thanks. That cubicle between is gates is were they went with my passport, with no success. Weird. I'll try again next time - maybe it's a trial and error thing.

yes I think so too. Maybe you could try the gates for SG/HK passport. With my old passport I always used this channels. Now they put a big sign on top of the machine saying "Not for workpermit visa - (PR) also can not"... Somthing like this, I remember because the wording so funny. That one reading my new passport data page very fast and also the cam scan passed only finger scan failed, but this could be also only an error.

    This is great news.
Did the IO mention any software upgrade done?

No and I did not ask, because I knew this treath and was afraid they would refuse me. But I don't think so, everything looks as usual.

I had to change passport because the old one demaged during last time check-in Frankfurt (the plastic card nearly cut out).

So my pass number and non-qouta visa changed. The registration for e-channel in the old pass was still valid.

I just hand over both passports to the officer and explained my story.

Thanks for this info! I went last week and tried to register at the Departure customs office. They tried, but the machine could still not read my passport. Where did you register for auto-channel?

I walked to the e-gates right side after the escalator, straight to the assistant women who is always there.
She brought me inside to the info counter and a female officer took my passports and disappeared for 10 min in the small glass office between the gates. Then she called me back and took my fingerprint and foto. We tried 2 machines between the small glass office and the singapore e-gates without luck. Looks like she know what to do and tried the singapore gate which was able to read the data page but not verifiyimg my ID. Then we walked over oposite to the other machines and it worked.

Btw my Thai colleague was together with me and he just got his new Thai (APEC) Passport which data page looks very much like the new german passport and also using auto gates without any problem.

  4. I got my new German passport last month. Last Wednesday I went to Suvarnabumi Immigration and re-registered for e-channel, it works after few trials. First machine I also get error “can’t read data page”, then a very friendly officer tried another gate beside, that one for Singapore / HK passport and this was able to read but could not verify my ID. Then we went over to the auto gates on the other side and first one was working. Today I came back using e-channel no problem…

  5. Our Moo Baan has a swimming pool which maintenance is quite expensive. On part of the neighborhood (mostly owners) never paid for anything and argument they don't care about garbage, security, gardener, bla bla. Actually I'm paying and I don't care about the pool but others which still paying says, if we stop maintaining or close down the swimming pool to save money they will stop paying anything...

Any idea how to motivate (or force ;) the owners at least to pay a minimum amount for maintain the estate?

  6. I plan to apply for permanent residency in the spouse category. However, I have been told by a consultancy that to apply in this category I need to have a Non O visa. My current visa is Non B and I have been on this type of visa for nearly 6 years.

Can anyone confirm if this advice is accurate? If I need to change my visa to Non O in order to qualify it's going to be three more years until I can apply...

    Any advice gratefully received.

It's not correct. I have a friend whose application was accepted 2 years ago. He applied under the family category and has only ever been on extensions based on employment.

Not unusual to get erroneous advice from a visa consultant/agent/lawyer especially regarding PR applications. I'm not against using one (I did in my application) but it's worth keeping in mind whenever you're told something odd.

Many thanks for this, it's encouraging. I will double-check with Immigration and hopefully apply this year.

I've just get my PR last month, applied 2 years ago also in spouse category and never had an non-O visa. I'm in Thailand since 14 years with yearly extension based on non-B visa.

  7. Hey wasisdn,

It makes sense - the applicants should pass the language test before being forwarded to the commission for consideration.

Where did you get the information that the applications were forwarded to MoI in Octobr and that 10 applicants had received PR in January? Do you have any sources you can share links to?

sorry I don't have any links, just get the info direct from CW by phone call and Line. The Line message I still have so I can confirm was in october.

I'm on non-b visa but when I applied for the PR I also get a 180 days stamp which I can extend all 180 days again until the result come out

Can't remember when I get the bridging visa but I belive was when they accept my application and paid the 7600 baht

  8. could be, definitely not more then that.

but I belive what is written in this article can't be true. in february 2016 the first 10 applicants from january 2015 got their PR and after that zero.

Edit: I have reread the article and this applicants must be from earlier years. because the thai test was sheduled on 3 days end of april last year and as far as I know by end of october they had passed the Immigration and was forwarded to the Ministry of Interior

  9. So far all is going according to plan. Went this week to check document and sign the affidavit. Took 45 minutes.

They said that this year 270 applications were received. Interviews for first group of applicants would be mid May, others would be scheduled later.

I am still prepared for the unexpected to pop up.

So you applied December 2015 right? But I meant the applicants from 2014 (The opening window for those was January 2015)

  10. What are the advantages of being a PR?

all here only talk about the presonal benefits on PR. of course is nice to have no more visa runs, 90days report etc.

But my main reason is certainty (like Morakot already mention) for my family, wife and 13 years old doughter.

I'm only 44 and you never know what happen in future to my job, wife or other unexpected things, so with PR I will have much more rights and obligations to take care my doughter (and wife of course).

I have no more place of residence in Europe only hold the German passport. with the PR at least I have a legal registration in Thailand and something in my hand.

If loose job for example don't have to rush for non-o visa with appropriate money in the bank or have to leave the country (and my home!) within 7 days, I will get enough time to find another job / income in Thailand or elsewhere...

  11. ok thanks for your quick answer, sounds very good.

in other words the only disadvantage after getting PR is I have to pay 3800 baht instead 1000 baht for my 1 time re-entry per year?

The re-entry permit will be a multiple one instead of single for 1000 baht.

    3,,800baht for a multiple re-entry, PLUS 1,900baht for a re-entry stamp in his PR book. Total 5,700baht!

thats what I mean. usually I'll leave Thailand max. 1 time per year. so I need 1900 baht for single non-quota stamp in passport + 1900 baht for endorse stamp in PR book right?

with non-b visa I just have a single re-enrtry in PP cost 1000 baht...

  12. Hi,

I have a work permit valid until end of June 2016. My actual Visa is Non-B. Years ago I have applied for PR and now Immigration just inform me that it will be approved before end of this month after Sonkran.

Now my Question, after getting PR is there any changes in the process to extend my WP for the next year?

Or even worse do my company have to apply for a new work permit because my Non-B visa has expire and then I stay in Thailand as PR?

    Many thanks an advance

  13. ...

There is a transition rule for those who already applied for a 1 year extension of stay with an expiring passport. This time they just go to immigration when they have the new passport and get the details transferred and the remainder of the 1 year extension of stay in their passport for free as usual, without needing to apply for a new extension because the passport expired....

This answered my question from another topic, thx again Mario

    1. I have get my Visa extensions in July 2013 and stamp until June 2014 (before the new rules came out) but my passport expiration date is in April 2014. Is this new rule only for those who get the visa extensions after 13. August 2013?

  14. Let's try to make it more clear:

    Old rule:

You have a passport valid till September 1. On January 1 you apply for a 1 year extension of stay. Immigration gives you an extension of stay till September 1 and tells you to return to immigration with a new passport before September 1. (If you come back after Sept 1 you don't have a valid permission to stay anymore and are fined for overstay).

You go back to immigration on 15 August with a new passport and immigration transfers all details to the new passport, in addition immigration gives you a new extension of stay, now till January 1 of next year for free.

    New Rule:

You have a passport valid till September 1. On January 1 you apply for a 1 year extension of stay. Immigration gives you an extension of stay till September 1 and tells you to return to immigration with a new passport before September 1. (If you come back after Sept 1 you don't have a valid permission to stay anymore and are fined for overstay).

You go back to immigration on 15 of august. Immigration transfers the details of your old passport to the new passport. So far nothing has changed. Now comes the new part. Instead of immigration giving you a new permission to stay till January 1 of next year for free your extension of stay ends on September 1 and you have to apply for a new extension of stay with all necessary paperwork for the extension. You now get a new 1 year extension of stay valid till September 1 of next year and pay the usual fee of 1,900 baht for that.

thx Mario, this is clear so far but I still have 2 more questions.

    1. I have get my Visa extensions in July 2013 and stamp until June 2014 (before the new rules came out) but my passport expiration date is in April 2014. Is this new rule only for those who get the visa extensions after 13. August 2013?

    2. Whats about the work permit? Normaly I have done this every year together with my visa extension, but now my work permit is also stamp until June 2014...

    1. You should not have gotten an extension till June 2014, only till april 2014. I think immigration made a mistake here. So i suspect they will follow the new rules and ask you to apply for a new extension of stay in April.

    2. The work permit is no longer connected to the validity of your permisison to stay. In June 2014 you just renew the WP as usual, with the new passport ofcourse.

I think this is not a mistake. The officer do a very confusing stamp this time with 3 dates on it, I have never seen before.

At the bottom is the date uf issue July 2013 as normal but at the top (where is usually the expiry date) is a extra stamp written in thai with 2 dates on it. First one is June 2014 (expriation of 1 year visa) and the second is April 2014 (expiration of passport).

Just now I called the Immigration in Chachoengsao to ask about my case, they told me when I get my new passport just copy all pages from old passport, go there and they will transfer the visa until June 2014 to my new passport. Maybe they don't know about the new rule yet...lol

  16. the best plan for using unlimited mobile Internet nationwide in Thailand right now is DTAC, because after reaching the download limit (depend on your package) DTAC only will reduce your download speed to 64 kbps (1GB/month 399,-Baht) or 384 kbps (3GB/month 650,-Baht). Also the nationwide 3G coverage is okey.

AIS-GSM for example will charge you extra money for every MB after using up your download package (500MB free 399,-Baht/month) and True is only good for Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket area.

    have a look:

    DTAC

    AIS-GSM

    True

  17. I just registered as a Skype user here in Southeren Califiornia.

I could not purchase minutes, it's not free as advertized and I'm not clear wether or not you can call to any one or just other PC useres with accounts... :o

With Skype you can call to any telephone number. Check out the rates here:

    http://www.skype.com/products/skypeout/rates/all_rates.html?

You have to setup an account with Skype and sign up for SkypeOut. After that you charge your calling account by using creditcard.

Calls from PC to PC are free.

  18. I have same problem right now. My daughter is 2 years and I was searching the Internet for an international school at Bangna-Trad area. Bangkok Patana is over my budged too, more then 400,000 bath per year at the beginning. Another problemis that my wife is Thai and I’m German. It’s difficult to teach English for us. It would be very helpful, if someone know an international or English teaching school in Bangpakong/Chonburi area.
