  1. Latest news is, the locals keep stealing the bolds that hold down the rails on the sleepers. This is the seventh derailment in 4 months.

When a rails is detached from the sleeper it will slide outwards in a curve, this is perhaps why the train topped over on the inside of the curve.

nah not locals. they dont/wouldnt have any motivation. so look again who with power and influence and proposed gain would have big motivation.

The powerful want to steal metal bolts from railway lines. Times must be tough at the top.

every morning the sun rises. you, no doubt, would have to ask you grandmother what happens next.

  3. only alcoholics and peasants 'love' these trains, theyre <deleted>!

the staff are pushy, more beer, more beer...how can i have more if i havent had 1?

the food is gross and overpriced.

the restaurant car is filled with drunk 'staff' that gamble and scream along to noisy music and flashing lights like a 12 yr olds birthday disco.

the sleepers are FILTHY, the other passengers are all scum, picking their feet and staring at you in case you might drop 5 bt in your sleep.

still rather train than plane though!

oh was that you i was looking at. and no you cant have it back, i spent already it for my sin sod.

Everyone always talks about the excellent, cheap van service from Udon Thani to Vientiane. But nobody talks about the return service going back to the Udon airport. This is where I've always had problems. Going to Friendship bridge from Udon I paid 200 baht per person. However, going back I was forced to pay 1,500 baht for a different van service, since I never could find the same van service I came to Friendship bridge with. How do you find the same van service for the return trip?

there are big buses that go direct from the bus station near morning market to udon bus station. to use the buses going in the reverse direction thai to loas, farang absolutely need to have a pre-issued from laos embassy visa.

  5. Personally I find all those repeating negative, synical and off topic cliché reactions a very annoying thing on Thaivisa. Why do this frustrated old men want to live here anyway, just for their cheap beer ?

It‘s pathetic to post the same tone of responses in every random topic, this is Thailand and you know it.

Posting your opinion is not obligatory, if you'd think so.

    Send from my Asus FONEPAD

Say, did the engineer flee the scene?

    no it was suicide.

  6. rats! well it was exciting till the few minutes it takes to get to:NE2FYIM.png

zymic bit like cosmic i guess

my email address should have expired by nowcheesy.gif

edit: no couldnt be bothered even trying with a proxy.

  7. Anyone considering having a website, either for commercial or personal purposes should create their own, and if not experienced, should learn, it`s easy once you get into it.

There is a recommended Thai based website host company that many big Thai companies use. Websites with own personal domain start from only 149 baht per month.

    http://www.netdesignhost.com/

It is possible to use the hosts own templates or FTP uploads using HTML and CSS script coding.

Here is a freebie, the best on the market that comes highly recommend. 6GB web space and 50GB bandwidth, enough for anybody. FTP scripting service only.

    http://www.zymic.com/

Both servers are free from ads. The free Zymic account has several choice free sub domains to choose from. All that is required is to log in to your account about once a month to let them see the account is being used and active.

hey good find indeed: zymic. but dont put all your eggs irretrievably into the basket. this and many many many others like it have come and gone at short notice b4.

anyhow i'll bite while its here just to see how much they have crippled the php giggle.gif. also gigs of free bandwidth are nice even on a temp basis. now, where did i put that throw away email address host.biggrin.png

  8. Sorry I live well above the sea and grow fish for fertiliser and feed production not consumption. But since you ask, perhaps the polluted sort in the Bay of Thailand? I amsure you know the sort, the ones swimming amid the plastic bags and crap off Pattaya!

wasnt directed at you IA but the OP. anyhow i think the ones swimming in the crap of pattaya are the most sustainable of all. no ones game to eat em and they have perfectly adapted and thriving in their environment.thumbsup.gif

No offence taken here RI. But I will say this, life here as a farmer is F'ing tough. The OP has my support as does the market in Bangkok. Mate I sell the best mushrooms around for 150 baht per kilo, a trip to Bangkok on a maybe I can sell some is close to 20% of my weekly production. Get real my friend, the people who sell what they produce at venues like this are happy to make ends meet. This is not about a "not important spend" of a few baht, this is about supporting a much lower level of agriculture employing individuals not CP corporates.

This is about giving the small player a change to flourish amid an environment where the corporates destroy any form of serious competition. That is Thailand and farming. So I am not offended at all, but unlike you I support the OP to the utmost. Viva La difference!

i happily buy a major of what i eat from 7 a CP subsidiary. i am pleased that it is there and without it i would have to imbibe more thai culture than i would wish and would even say that i would be seriously reconsidering my residence if it and places like tesco lotus and tops etc werent available. but it is a difficult call between the chicken and egg so to speak because as you say "where the corporates destroy any form of serious competition." and i was also here b4 7 was omnipresent and have noticed the change when 7 comes into a new non 7 area.

but i also warily buy from the fresh markets where the small producers are often only once:)

would i go to the market if i was in bkk? no highly unlikely, i can get all that i need locally without having to travel to traffic congested places i dont fancy: sukhumvit.

  10. i am in CM.

if its a non-commercial website with a correct motivation and you are a nice person i might be interesting in doing it as a 1 off for free. (note that non-commercial does NOT include most NGO.)

caveat, you would have to check the spelling is to your own liking. fixing spelling/grammatical errors is quick and simple.

    PM me the details .

  11. Why not just use a site like www.godaddy.com?

Godaddy ? Are u nuts ? This webhostingprovider is unscrupulous garbage. Here you can read why.

I second that - stay away from Godaddy.

And, I also dislike people that kill elephants for "sport".

elephants kill people for sport, so why not?

  12. Really, bullets without guns, are not that scary. When was the last time someone pointed a bullet at you and it made you afraid?

walking the street, came to a young cambodian boy who was repeatedly hitting the larger caliber rifle bullet around the crimping with a heavy piece of metal trying to extract the actual projectile from the live viable case. yes i was afraid. not sure it was pointing at me but it was close by. protested to him quickly, others nearby came who then admonished him in khmer . he then looked embarrassed and stopped the bullet assault. .think he was trying to get the metal projectile to sell it. strange he didnt just try to sell the bullet. stray viable bullets were commonly around then.

  13. which border check point in mae hong son can you drive a vehicle across? didnt even know crossing existed there. cant determine which way the vehicle actually was to cross, or it did cross and was then apprehended?

my guess is the stuff was going from thai to myanmar. which would be not PC at all, so strange how this got into the news. interesting to follow the supply chain back to the manufacturer no doubt. you wont ever see that in the press though.

  14. thais believe that nowhere else on the planet is anywhere as good as his majesty's thailand so not being in thailand is equivalent to being in jail. no further action required. could be right too just ask all the farang who prefer to live here when they can afford to do so,

viewed in the same category as being moved to an inactive post i guess

  16. Hmmm Lebu chulia ugh!!

if you want to stay a bit upmarket away from the "great unwashed" my mate Arthur at Mingood hotel ( I suppose its about 800 THB ish) a night in jalan argyle is a great chap he will sort everything swiftly in style as they say in Allo Allo

I have never stayed at mingood but I am sure it's not an upmarket hotel. Well, if u compare with as u say "great unwashed" I would agree its upmarket. Lol. Anyway, the staff are very friendly and the visa service is great. Highly recommended.

hes definitely desperately trying to sell snot so that alone makes it up market in my book. you dont have to stay at bannana to use their visa service.
